About The Owner

Mel and Holly Kreb have lived on this little piece of paradise for over thirty years. Mel grew up on a family dairy farm in Iowa which explains the onsite two acre veggie garden. Holly's background is in art and design, evident in the place's warm welcoming decor.

Both of their grown kids remain committed to organic agriculture, personally and professionally.

Amazing!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing! There is a three acre garden right outside the front door. Every morning and every night We picked our vegetables for breakfast and dinner. My daughter and her friend walked to the fruit and vegetalbe stand every day to get the delicious home made blackberry popcycles.

The house is located in a meadow surrounded by fruit trees of which we picked and ate the fruit daily. The inside of the house is very elequently decorated with paintings done by the hostess. The house is locted right at the entrance of the Aveue of the giants. There is a short walk to a two mile hike to the most beautiful trees in the world. If you are planning a trip to the redwood forest this is the place to stay. We will definately be back.

Heavenly private retreat

  • 5 of 5

This place is paradise. A working 3 acre garden is outside your door, with all the vegetables you can pull from the vine and eat. You are surrounded by redwood forests. The cabin is modern, with a huge hot tub on the deck outside. If you are looking to stay in the redwoods, this is the place.

What a find!!

  • 5 of 5

A great location in the heart of the redwoods! Agree with others that the owners are very hospitable. The house is cozy and was enjoyed by the 5 of us on this stay. If not so far away (6 hour flight followed by 5 hour drive), we would be back. Just a half mile walk down the road is a great 2 mile trail that through the redwoods. The house itself is a treat with the the fireplace and hot tub (though we totally figured out the perfect setting for 100-102 degree water temperature). This place would be great for a romantic getaway or a larger gathering such as our group. Holly was very accessible and generous is sharing the fruits of the garden. Highly recommend!

We stayed here a last summer and loved it. The owners are great and personable. Quiet, clean, could not have asked for better accommodations.

Truly Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed here with our two children for about 5 days. Everything about this home/property is perfect. The area is just peaceful. You are able to pick anything that you want from the Organic Garden. We all loved the blackberry Popsicles too! The Avenue of the Giants is just a few steps away and you are into the Redwoods. There are nice short, flat trails and fallen trees for the kids to climb on. The home itself is beautiful and so clean. We felt like we were at home. The hot tub is also such a treat. Mel and Holly were so incredibly hospitable and nice to chat with. They made sure that we were comfortable and that the kids had everything they needed for their daily bad mitten games. I was truly sad to leave. It is a refreshing time experiencing a different way of life. It is a ways from Trees of Mystery and some of the "touristy" things, but anything that we saw up in this area, far surpassed the tourist stop. You can stay here and take in the Redwoods in their natural setting. Also good bird watching. Woodpeckers, Quail, Hummingbirds, etc. Two little bunnies would come and eat each morning and evening at the edge of the property. Thanks so much Mel and Holly for a trip that we will never forget. We will be back!

A true Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

We just completed our third stay here. It such a great way for entire family to get away from everything for a long weekend. No TV, no internet, no cellular. Just relaxing, hiking in the woods, soaking in the hot tub or doing some shopping up in Eureka, this is a great place. Firewood (fire starter, kindling, and wood is provided, as is a outdoor grill and charcoal)

Tips: There's a full grocery store, Starbucks and great diners just a few minutes north in Fortuna; limited options, especially on Sunday, in Rio Dell and Scotia.

We couldn't finish the puppy and duck puzzle or 7 year old bought. We left it it behind, hopefully you have better luck.
