We love this little log cabin- A great getaway any time of year!
We love to escape the desert heat with Maxwell (pictured), to A Sweet Pine Cabin as often as we can. We think it is the quintessential mountain cabin and is exactly what we dreamed a cabin should be. We've had a blast decorating and upgrading this vintage 'Maltby' cabin with the help of our professional designer gal-pals... Thank you P&S!!
'Maltby' is the most well-known mid-century architect of Big Bear; during the heyday of the 1940's. In addition to small utterly charming custom residential log cabins, Maltby did many vintage hotels etc. during that period. Just pick-up any of the historical books on Big Bear and you'll be likely see some of his more 'monumental' architecture!.
We chose to maintain many original vintage elements, as it really adds to the charm while maintaining the authenticity of this very 'real' log-cabin.
We also really wanted a place that had plenty of room for pets, as we are BIG animal lovers, small & large, they are definitely members of the family too!
Shawn purchased this cabin in 2004
We fell in love with the style and charm of A Sweet Pine Cabin. And the large fenced yard is perfect for our 4-legged family members.
relax, eat, relax, eat, relax.... go ski, go fish, go boating, then more relaxing, and oh yeah, hiking and baking fresh apple pies/tarts from the apples on the tree in the yard...
The property is very nice and well kept. It is close to all the attractions. It is set in a nice and peaceful neighborhood. Nice yard that is fenced in for you if you have kids or pets to let them just roam around the yard. It is exactly like the pictures so you are going to get what you are looking at. The owner is very helpful and is very understanding if you bring up anything to him or have questions about anything. They answer in a very timely matter.
this was a great experience we had ..such great host to have everything a person would need.. since I own a vacation home it was so nice to see they thought of everything beautiful yard all can say is +++++++++ thanks again
We had the sink and toilet clough hot water ran out had no pan to cook we dint like that they time us on everything
My family and I spent the Labor Day long weekend at the Sweet Pine Cabin and we really wished we could have stayed just a little longer! This cozy little cabin is a perfect escape from the hustle-bustle of daily-life. It's quiet and peaceful and surrounded by Pine trees. Its an easy drive to the Lake and great just for walks around the neighborhood. We took our dog with us and the fenced yard was perfect for her to freely explore around the yard. We especially enjoyed the vintage kitchen and appliances. Although small, everything was functional and we were able to cook our meals there without any issues. (We had bought all the required groceries before getting there.) The kids enjoyed the cute loft bedroom - very storybook like and playing croquet in the yard. We played board games on the picnic bench in the backyard and watched movies at night on Netflix that is on both TVs in the house. All in all, it was just what we needed for a quiet family getaway!
We recently spent 4 nights at Sweet Pine Cabin, and loved every minute of it, are already planning our next trip and are still dreaming of the smell of the pines. If you are looking for a Big Bear cabin experience, this charming and comfortable cabin is the one. It's not fancy, it's not luxurious, but it's cozy, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The fenced yard was such a treat for our German Shepherd and Siberian Husky, who didn't want to leave! The location was close to what we wanted to see and do, although we spent most of our time just hanging out at the picnic table and on the fabulous front porch. Nice amenities, from the soap basket to the variety of electronics - although we were too busy enjoying nature to use the TV, movies or video games. Kitchen had almost everything you could need or want, and the retro appliances cool and worked perfectly. This was a perfect place to disconnect from our phones and computers and just relax. And the fact that Sweet Pine is accepting of dogs that weigh more than 25 lbs is a big bonus and just one reason we'll definitely be back! I really don't know who enjoyed the trip more, us or the dogs!
An adorable place to relax and escape reality.
