The Olde Stone Cottage is your perfect place to stay in Lancaster County! This luxury accommodation is ideal for a honeymoon, romantic retreat, girlfriends getaway or relaxing private vacation. Kids under 12 stay free.
Sit on the porch and watch the Amish buggies clip-clop down Main Street, listen to the bells chime from a nearby church, and enjoy flowers in shades of yellow, white and blue, which lend a French Country feeling to the outside of the cottage.
Amish and Mennonite farms provide plenty of fresh produce and there's lots of shopping in nearby Adamstown, known as the Antiques Capital of the USA. There are five local one-room school houses and covered bridges. Outlets in Reading and Lancaster are a short drive, as well as museums, Amish attractions and great hiking and biking.
Small Town USA: The Olde Stone Cottage is in a small town (1200 people) that has many activities. There's a Terre Hill Days celebration in July - great bands, outhouse races, fireworks, lots of food - a town-wide Yard Sale, Harvest Parade and Haunted Trail in the fall, Lunch in the Park every Friday late July into September, and lots more.
A Shopper's Paradise: Whether it is outlet shopping (Lancaster has Tanger and Rockville, and Reading has the big VF Outlet Center), antique shopping (ten minutes away at the Antiques Capital of the USA, Amish quilts and crafts, or Art galleries (downtown Lancaster), Terre HIll is in the center of the spoke for shopping of all kinds. We'll be glad to share our favorite places with you.
Lancaster County: Terre Hill is centrally located in Lancaster County - there are buggies that travel right past the cottage, one-room schoolhouses and covered bridges surround the town, rolling farmland, roadside stands at the farms, local craft, quilt and furniture shops. A huge antigue center is ten minutes north of town and Weaverland Auction is 1 mile from town - where the farmers and nurseries bring their produce and plants to be sold. It's a great area to cycle.
The Olde Stone Cottage was featured on Sweet Retreats....and won! We're proud to be inspected, licensed and legal. The cottage has passed all local safety and zoning regulations.
My husband and I have been operating The Artist's Inn, a bed and breakfast just five houses from The Olde Stone Cottage for 20 years. We love meeting people from all over the world. But we only have three rooms at the inn and couldn't accommodate children or bigger groups. The Olde Stone Cottage is child friendly and our Carriage House can accommodate more if needed....including a bedroom and bath on the first floor.
Jan or Bruce Garrabrandt purchased this cottage in 2005
Our Inn was originally built by Sam Watts...actually he owned much of the land that is now Terre Hill. He donated land for the local church, school, was on the board of the local bank, and was generally quite a great guy. He also owned a cigar-making factory, one of many in town. The locally grown tobacco was used for the outer leaves of the cigars. His grandson owned the local store...which stood on the land now occupied by our cottage. We always admired this little house and when it came up for sale, we converted it to a vacation rental. To see the story of the remodel, check out The Artist's Inn website.
Terre Hill is a quiet town, but just minutes away from Adamstown - filled with antiques....or busy Intercourse with bustling shops and Kitchen Kettle Village. It's surrounded by farms so fresh produce can be had three seasons a year in any direction. And Shady Maple - whether you go to the farmer's market, gift shop, or smorgasbord is a treat unto itself. Folks also like to explore the area on bikes or by hiking.
We really enjoyed our stay here! Looking forward to visiting again!
We spend the 4th of July weekend with our two daughters (3y and 8 months). Absolutely fabulous cottage. The house has about everything (next to heaps of charm) and the owners even foresee your first breakfast and loads of homemade cookies and brownies. We used it as a basis to visit Amish country and found this very convenient, certainly with a great Shady Maple market being nearby. By the way, they just installed a new grill in the back yard. Jan is amazing to communicate with. If you go there, don't forget to sit on the porch with a glass of wine, watch the fireflies and listen to the horses and carriages passing by...
The cottage was absolutely more than I had expected. It was warm and cozy, clean and just perfect. I will be staying again for sure!
Warm and wonderful both inside and outside. After driving all day, it was with a sigh of pleasure I opened the door to beautiful pine floors and cozy furniture in the friendliest of atmospheres. Freshly baked cookies and coffee cake awaited and I just had to set the coffee pot to brewing. Wonderful!
The cottage is in a perfect location for exploring the Amish countryside, shopping and eating, eating, eating! Loved it all and will do again.
My husband and I stayed here recently for our anniversary and it was truly amazing. The stone cottage was clean and beautiful and very relaxing. The huge whirlpool tub located in the master bedroom was awesome extra bonus, as well as the 2-person shower in the hall bath! And even though the pictures on the site are wonderful, the cottage is even more beautiful than what you see. The town is quaint, the diner across the street was very very good, and the owners are an absolute pleasure to deal with. And having them include all the food they stated for your breakfast was such a plus (the baked goods AND the cookies in the filled cookie jar were so scrumptious). I want to thank the owners so much for the lifetime memory you have given us.
We had a wonderful time at the cottage, and wish we could have stayed longer. The “old” feel of the home was great, and the amenities were perfect. We so enjoyed having a glass of wine in from of the fireplace. The home made cookies and brownies were delicious, and a very nice touch. It was awesome to see several horse and buggies pass right in from of the cottage on Main Street. Our getaway was a relaxing pleasure. Thanks Jan and Bruce!

Terre Hill is a perfect place to stay - a quiet, small town that boasts tennis courts, a wonderful park, two restaurants and a convenience store - all within walking distance of the cottage and surrounded by Amish farms. Nearby Shady Maple provides a great farm market and the largest smorgasbord in the county for great Pennsylvania Dutch food.
