About Brad

I have lived on both coasts and the Rockies but Bend has been by far the best. After 25 years in Bend I had an opportunity to share my favorite spot with others. I started by doing home exchanges around the country and then in 2009, when my kids were moving on, I decided to use my riverfront home as a vacation rental. I've made lots of new friends and really enjoy sharing this great area with people from around the world. Watch our VIDEO to see more of what this house and Bend living have to offer.

Brad purchased this house in 2000

Why Brad chose Bend

There's nothing better than river front property in the center of Bend.

What makes this house unique

The location of this vacation rental can't be beat. We are right in the middle of Bend with urban amenities on the street side of the home and quiet, riverfront living in the back. Some guests never leave the backyard while others are out on the town enjoying all that Bend has to offer. Whether you come to play or just to relax this location will fit your needs. Walk to shopping and fine dining in downtown or the Old Mill District or paddle from your backyard up and down the river. We're also only 5 blocks from the Mt Bachelor Ski shuttle for this winter's great riding! It's all right here for you to enjoy.

Wedding weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed while in town for our daughter's wedding and found the house to be comfortable and convenient and a perfect place for our family memories. While only 4 of us slept there, and there was never a crowd in the house, as visitors dropped by we were delighted to be able to share a meal and enjoy the view. That week we had rain, snow and sun and it didn't matter as we watched the river roll by. We were impressed with the communication we had with the owner and look forward to booking this home again. This home was more than we expected!

Comfortable and convenient... a really fun ski house.

  • 5 of 5

Me and my 2 friends have stayed in this house for our annual weekend ski trip to Mt. Bachelor for the past 5 winters. The house is conveniently located to downtown Bend, great restaurants (10 Barrel Brewery, among others), and ski shops. It's an easy drive up to Mt. Bachelor. After a day of skiing, the hot tub is especially nice.

This is the best place we've stayed in Bend. We'll be back again, as long as our bodies don't give out on the slopes.

Great Location! Walk to restaurants....Beautiful comfortable home!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Harmon House for our Annual Visit to Bend, Oregon.....We were very pleased with the amenities, well stocked homes. Plenty of spices, oils, etc in the kitchen. Beds in the bedrooms are all comfortable we slept like babies and the hot tub was fantastic on the River, especially after a long day snowboarding up at the beautiful Mt. Bachelor.

You can walk two minutes to 10 Barrel Brewery, which is great, as the wait can be long there. You are also real close to downtown Bend, longer walk, but if weather is nice, definitely worth walking through the beautiful Drake Park.

My only suggestion is in the Game/Bonus room, there is a pull out couch bed. The bed is pretty worn and not comfortable, we took the mattress out and placed on the floor. I would suggest the owner to put a blow up mattress in the game room, there is so much room in that room.

Thank You for sharing your home with my family--we enjoyed every second, and would definitely return!

Another great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying at the Harmon house every winter for the last 5 years. This was our first visit when there wasn't snow on the ground. We loved it! The river is fantastic in the warm weather. We had no idea there was so much happening on the river in the warmer months. It's our favorite vacation house and we'll be back this winter and hopefully next summer too. Thanks Brad, another great stay!

A great vacation in this fantastic home.

  • 5 of 5

My family met at this house for a summer get together. What a pleasant surprise. Beautiful river front home was comfortable, clean and well stocked. We loved the views from the back of the house overlooking the river. The home is big and the open living area perfect for entertaining.

we have stayed at other vrbo homes, this is by far one of the best

We are already booking for next year.

The Harmon House in Bend

  • 4 of 5

We were a party of 4 adults...myself, my husband, my daughter, and her friend…all professionals, well-traveled, and frequent VRBO renters in the U.S. and abroad. We do our research on a property, its location, its condition, its amenities, and we always read the reviews. The review that was last posted was 4 months old and though it was not a good one, we read the owner’s response and decided it could very well be just be an ‘angry renter’. As well, there was yet another “less than stellar” review from 2012 and that review, as well as the one from June 2014, were responded to by the owner in a very defensive way. After reading these reviews and the 14 others, we had hoped that these were simply two disgruntled renters and though I do think that these two reviewers were somewhat too harsh, there are, sadly, some issues that the owner and especially subsequent renters should be made aware of.

The Harmon House IS in a terrific location (barring that it is across the street from a gas station), it IS large and spacious, it IS beautiful in appearance, it WAS clean (though not immaculate), and we DID have a wonderful time in Bend using this home as our base.

But, sadly, if truth be told, the property is not well taken care of, as those other two reviewers noted. There are many things that do not work properly (hot tub controls, kitchen faucet spurts water), things that are broken (cabinet doors that fall off the hinge, broken ice-maker/filtered water dispenser, a broken window crank, inoperable gas fireplace in the living room, etc.), and some tired appliances (old TVs, electronics, & a dishwasher that I had replaced in my own home 8 years ago).

That said, all of the things noted and noticed did not really detract from our overall stay. But if you rent this home, you should be aware that there are things that are not in ‘proper working condition’ and if those things, most of which are minor, are going to annoy or trouble you, our concerted opinion is that you should not rent this property. On the other hand, if those things are not of consequence to you, then you will be pleased, as we were, with the Harmon House.

The sad part is that this home could really be something truly special. It’s set on the river, it’s large, and it is very, very pretty, and my hope in writing this review is not to anger the owner or illicit another defensive response, but rather to offer some constructive criticism & hope that he, will, finally give it some TLC.

Owner's Response: Thank you again for an eye opening review. Unfortunately when the negative review arrived in June I was booked for the summer and had no openings to complete the work needed. I had an open week at the end of September/early October to get in and fix as much as possible. After 5 years as a busy vacation rental there was definitely some work to be done. So, here's what we've done so far: All new bedding, pillows, new dishes, silverware, cabinet door hinges replaced, ice machine back on (I had it turned off after it malfunctioned and the wood floors in the kitchen had to be replaced). I've hired a manager to help monitor the daily operations. This IS a great house and we want it to be a memorable vacation spot. We will continue to improve the property and bring it back to the standards that you deserve. Please give us a try again, we welcome your comments and will respond with care to keep you coming back.
