Updated, clean, well kept home and grounds.

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful time staying at this home. The home was well kept, clean, and had nice grounds with lots of privacy. We found everything as was described. The kids and adults enjoyed the property, home, and the local North shore.

Beautiful home, but somewhat inconvenient.

  • 3 of 5

We were "upgraded" to this home when the owner decided to paint the property we had originally booked. The photos on the site looked great so we were happy for the upgrade. But once we got there we learned it wasn't so convenient for us. The property we originally booked is almost oceanfront and right on the bike path. I was excited about this because we could bike along the north shore to wherever we needed to go. This property we were placed in is .25 miles from the beach, which doesn't sound like much, but it's all uphill from the beach, so it's less accessible by foot or bike, especially for a child tired from swimming for hours. And one of the bikes provided was broken. The listing photo of the bikes must be quite outdated.

So it was driving for us. But the car we rented was a tin can Fiat, which got stuck on the very steep and broken driveway from the road to the cottage. So we always parked on the road, which made for a steep tiring trek to and from the car. Again not advised for a tired child. If you do rent this cottage I would recommend renting a sturdy vehicle, possible 4wd.

Once we were ensconced in the house it was very relaxing with lots of breeze and pretty plantings and a big lawn. Sleep was a little challenged by the many neighbor dogs barking and car bass booming.

All this being said about the property, the owner was kind and helpful.

Owner's Response: Aloha Erika, I'm sorry that you are unhappy. The review is focused on what happened. I hope I can help clarify. (1) The pictures are accurate of the driveway and property (hill side and sloped driveway). A Fiat is ok, I have many guests that rent Mini Coopers. So, it really has to do with the drivers comfort level. Sunset Beach is a country surf town and agriculturally zoned land. If you hear noises at night, please close your windows, the house will be very very quiet. (2) I didn't just decide....I "asked" if you would be interested in a complimentary upgrade as I was scheduling maintenance to paint. As you knew, no appointment was made at the time as I was flexible with the dates. You always had the option to stay in the originally booking. Remember, the original rental, your son would have slept on the sofa/daybed as it was a 1 bedroom queen. The Cottage has 2 beds (King and queen) (3) The bike story needs to be clarified. The bike was not broken and the photo is not outdated. You and your teenage son rode the bikes for "2 days" before the chain came off. On day 2, you text me said the chain came off again (you never told me it happened before). I immediately called and text you. You never answered or replied. When you arrived back to the property 30 minutes later, I did exchanged the bike and gave you another one. Most people love the Cottage because of the location. The location is hillside and most travelers find the property to be beautiful. Prime location for surfers and beach goers that want to be a short walk to Sunset Beach and have a quiet, private, and safe property with lots of space. Mahalo nui loa!

Awesome Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage was awesome! Spacious and private and just a short walk to the beach. Our stay was so peaceful and relaxing. The cottage had everything we needed and it was great riding the bikes to see the spectacular waves on the north shore.

Perfect spot in the best spot of the Island : Sunset Beach wow !

The house was perfect spot with all the commodities. Very quiet house with a 2 minutes walk to the magic beach. Perfect for 2 couples. The beds are really confortable and the kitchen as everything to cook. Nothing to say about this place.. nothing!

Serene and secluded cottage

  • 4 of 5

Our 6 day stay was great with the cottage being spacious and comfortable. It has a serene vibe and we enjoyed some of the best sleeps we've had in a while with the bed and linens being of good quality. Be prepared to be woken each day by a cockerel though!

The kitchen is reasonably well appointed with almost everything you need to make simple meals but don't expect to be able to produce gourmet food!

We arrived at 8.00 pm (as expected) and the directions provided are very high level with just a dot on a map, and the GPS doesn't recognize the property number. It's pitch dark at that time of night, so stopping at almost every house on the street was frustrating after a long journey. For future renters, the property is on the left side of the road, and the house number is on a lava-stone pillar - many other properties on the same street put their house numbers on a mail box.

Note this is NOT a 2 bedroom property, there is 1 king bedroom with en-suite shower, but the other queen bed is located in the open plan kitchen/living/dining room. So it's fine for families, but not 2 couples or teenagers.

Also be aware that the only provisions provided are salt & pepper, you will not find any items left behind by previous renters- which was the case (and a nice surprise) with another property we rented on Oahu.

We did not meet or hear from Yuki, so cannot make any comment in that regard.

Would we rent this property again?, yes, probably but we'd also consider others in the vicinity.

Sunset Beach & Haleiwa are lovely areas with a great surf atmosphere and a reasonable number of restaurants to choose from.

I can't recommend the food trucks - our experience at North Shore Fish Tacos was not the best and a server in a restaurant said she would NEVER eat at the food trucks due to there being no running water. We'll leave it to you to decide!!
