Excellent location; quiet, comfortable, welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

My family has just (reluctantly) returned from a wonderful week at this cottage in Scarborough. We absolutely loved this cottage and its location. Situated in a woodsy spot across the street from beach access, we really benefited from the quiet due to it being set well back from the road. We appreciated the privacy the lot provides, as well as ample parking. This rental does not feel crammed in shoulder-to-shoulder with other cottages, as one might find with other rentals--especially those directly on the ocean. Our boys had plenty of yard space to toss a football.

Inside, the cottage has everything we could possibly need. Upon our arrival, Sandra gave us a thorough tour, inside and out, and was available to assist us in any way. The cottage layout has plenty of space for our family of 4 and visiting guests. With a table in the kitchen nook, one in the great room, and another on sun porch, we had tons of space for eating, and for playing simultaneous cards games and board games. The great room with TV, comfy couch and chairs, and large table was more than big enough for all of us to hang out together. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were good-sized. Everything was very clean!

We liked this location for beach access because it's far enough from the pier to keep the crowds down. We enjoyed miles of walking daily in either direction, even if the tide was high. The market down the street has excellent breakfast sandwiches. There are also several local restaurants on Pine Point that we have not tried yet but plan to next year! From this spot in Scarborough, it was a just few miles drive to a major grocery store, restaurants, and other necessities. It was also convenient for us to take day trips in the greater Portland area from here.

When making our booking, Sandra was very prompt and clear with her communication; I felt I could ask any questions I had, and she provided excellent answers. We are already planning to come back here next summer. I can't say enough good things about Sandra and how much we enjoyed our very relaxing stay. Highly recommended!

Wonderful week at the Barking Fox

  • 5 of 5

What a great vacation home in a fabulous location! Our whole extended family enjoyed our time here. Sandra, you absolutely rock as a host.....the house was stocked with everything we needed (and then some!) except groceries and beach towels....all linens, soaps, dishes, cookware, even a lobster pot. There was anywhere from 5 to as many as 20 people there all week and we never felt cramped, and aside from the 3 bedrooms there were plenty of extra blankets as well as portable beds which allowed us to have people stay if they chose. With the gas grill there we cooked all week. One of the best things is the location....it's shielded from the main road by trees and has a circular driveway so parking was not a problem at all. You feel like you're in the woods and the beach (with private access) is right across the road. I grew up in Portland and always wanted to live at Pine Point, this week was a close second. The Brogan family will assuredly be returning in the coming years.

Sandra, thanks again!

A great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We were 6 adults and 1 baby. We spent a great week in this cottage.

The place is clean.

The access to the beach is near and the beach is less crowded than closer to the pier.

The surrounding is very calm and peaceful, beautiful grown trees all around. No noise. We saw squirrels and even a fox a couple times.

The kitchen is fully equipped and functionnal.

I recommand it, we look forward to rent it next summer!

Amazing vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful week in this beautful home. Six of us traveled from Montreal and Quebec City for a family vacation . I searched high and low to find a rental that could accommodate all of us comfortably and allow access to all of our must see sights and activities. This home was perfect for us and the price was quite reasonable. Furtheremore, the house is really "just across the street" from a beautifull beach.

With three large bedrooms, a nice living room (with a fireplace) and a great sun room, each of us had our own space. All of the bedrooms and baths were nicely furnished, super clean, with plenty of linens and pillows.

The kitchen was immaculate, with up-to-date appliances, lots of storage, high quality pots, pans, utensils, bakeware, serving pieces, etc.

We also made good use of the gas grill just outside.

Lastely, having the owner living right next door made things simple when we had questions.

This was definitely a vacation we will never forget!

Thanks again. We can't wait to come back!

Nice vacation but bugsy area

  • 3 of 5

Nice and well divised cottage, all well equipped. The owner is the neighbourg but very quiet and respectfull.

Very nice beach just across the sreet

Many activities, restaurants and grocery strores 10 min by car

Unfortunately, the area is pretty bugsy. Were not able to eat outside.

Also the mattresses were worned out...for the price, we would have liked to have better bedding.

Owner's Response: The property abuts the State of Maine Scarborough Marsh; mosquitoes were abundant this year due to a record setting rainy spring (10 inches in one month). The cottage features a screened in porch with fan, table and chairs, allows enjoyment of outside without mosquitoes. The cottage has two queen beds. One is soft and one is firm. The firm one is brand new, the other in excellent condition. These two types are provided for renter preference. Some prefer one or the other.

A perfect beach retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cottage was amazing. The setting was gorgeous with beautiful gardens and woods surrounding the location. It was a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The inside of the cottage was very inviting as well. On cool nights, the gas fireplace made it very cozy. On warm days, the screened in porch and patio with grill were wonderful for having friends and family join us for a barbeque. The location is close to many attractions and activities and had ample parking for company to visit.

The cottage was appointed with all the comforts of home. The convenience of having a washer and dryer and dishwasher made for less worry and less hassle during our stay. The outside shower was wonderful to rinse the kids (and adults) off after a day playing at the beach. The interior & exterior of the cottage were clean and well maintained. The owner was very accommodating, friendly and accessible when I was arranging my stay, during my vacation, as well as upon my departure.

At the beginning of my stay, I was on crutches. The short walk across the street to the beach was no problem even then. The day that my family visited for a cook out we had plenty of room to dine and set up our buffet between the outside patio, the dining area on the porch and the living room table.

I cannot think of a single thing that was dissatisfying about my stay. Even a rainy day was not a disappointment in this lovely cottage. My teenager was even very happy here! I certainly plan to make a return visit to this paradise.
