About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 bath

Key Lime Condo in HOT Coral House. Less than 1 block to the beach --- Tybee Island's wide white-sand beach. Large porch. Privacy fence.

What is unique about Tybee Island?

* Barrier island due east of historic Savannah .

* Just 3-mile diameter, and half that is salt marsh

* Birthplace and home of a C-list actor; chosen home of an A-list actor; nesting home of loggerhead sea turtles.

* Great dolphin viewing --- virtually guaranteed on the north end of the island. Dolphin boat tours are always available, but sitting on the north beach is just as effective. We once watched a band of dolphins frolicking with a delighted kayaker.

* Impressive pier that extends way, way out into the water. Each end has a nice covered pavilion.

Quaint and Quiet, Yet Close to Everything

  • 5 of 5

The arrangements were perfect for two people and a couple dogs. We didn't even use the upstairs loft, which had a very cool balcony. The Sugar Shack is right across the street on 2nd Avenue, perfect for breakfast. Across the other street, maybe 80 yards from the property, was a great bar/restaurant called McElwee's, a liquor store with the friendliest employee ever, a convenience store, and then a restaurant that--I kid not--might've been one of the top three restaurants we've ever encountered. It's called the Sundae Cafe--named after the time when it was an ice cream shop, I think. Listen, I have written about food for Garden and Gun, Oxford American, and Gravy. I had a piece in Best American Food Writing back in 2005. This place is spectacular, and offers entrees way different from the menu fare at every coastal joint up and down the Atlantic seaboard. Lobster Mac and Cheese. Seafood Cheesecake (not a dessert), fresh grouper, et cetera. Back to the house: Big beds, good hot water, two TVs that work (though one seemed broken when it showed Alabama beating Georgia--I assume that the TV was brken, 'cause how could that happen?...) Five stars, easy.

Owner's Response: Ideal guests. We apologize for the TV that allowed Alabama to beat Georgia. I think we’ve fixed the problem, though. It shouldn’t happen again.

Would be great for people who want their own space but traveling in large group

  • 4 of 5

The place is cute and the king bed is very comfy. The kitchen and dining area in the front are well done and clean. It's a pretty small unit and the stairs are super steep, but my kids loved the upstairs loft. I think this place would be absolutely perfect if you are traveling in a large group that rented out the other units. As it was, I felt bad because I could hear the guests above and next door and I'm sure they could hear us. It is very close to the beach on the quieter side of the island. The gas station and liquor store are right across the street, and the king bed actually faces to that area. It must have been a swinging Sunday night because some people were enjoying hanging in front of the liquor store. We also had a pretty large cockroach find it's way in, but I know that was only because of the rain as the unit was very clean. All in all, a decent little getaway spot.

Such a great condo parking is great with walking to the beach not even 5 mins! We enjoyed riding on golf carts on tybee and stopping at local eateries. This condo had plenty of room and was just fun for the two of us :) thank you can't wait to stay again!

Much Ado About Nothing

  • 1 of 5

Where do I begin?? We were prepared for some wear and tear from what we read in other reviews. But, nothing like what we discovered while spending the one month period that we had planned for, for months!! Two TVs that didn't work, a dishwasher that leaked constantly due to a leaking waterline, an electrical disaster in a ceiling fan, just waiting to happen, a clogged bathroom sink and a pond in the yard every time it rained. But the

biggest indignity was a broken washing machine that was blamed on us. All of these deficiencies didn't compare to this shocker. Convienently no promised discount for us since at the last minute we were blamed for the broken machine. Shame on you Ted! Think you need to check out your rentals once in a while!!

Owner's Response: Both TVs were fine. As always, the living room TV was playing music on a music channel when this couple arrived. They didn’t understand the remote. Our tech guy went by and gave them a lesson in the remote. The bedroom TV was also fine but had an issue related to Comcast cable service. A Comcast tech came out and fixed the problem, but of course it took them several days to get around to it. I told the couple I would give them a discount for the period that they were without TV in the bedroom. The dishwasher did develop a water leak, but a plumber fixed it easily. The plumber did not unclog the bathroom sink because it drained fine when the stopper was properly lifted. They did indeed break the 2-year old washing machine. The repairman said a sensor had been broken because the washing machine was overfilled and too much detergent had been used. The cost of replacing the sensor was so high that I bought a new machine. We had a note in the information book asking guests not to overfill the washing machine. The electrical hazard with the ceiling fan was a blown bulb. When the bulb was replaced, all was well.

Quaint Getaway

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay on Tybee Island, especially being on the north end of the island close to galleries. Had an incident with a bird crashing through window that was rather alarming - Ted the owner was very responsive. Our favorite restaurant experience was the Crab Shack (great shrimp and deviled crabs) and our server Beth couldn't have been nicer. Also went to Tybee Post Theatre for concert by The Petty Hearts (tribute band) that was packed and fun.

Owner's Response: The bird was a pigeon being chased by a hawk. The pigeon crashed through the window but survived and flew away. The housekeeper cleaned up the glass shortly after the incident, and our handyman covered the broken pane with plywood. Since the window is about 3 feet above the french doors that open onto the porch, the plywood did not block any view. The broken pane has now been replaced.

Nearest Airport
25 Miles
Car: recommended

Tybee Island is a small barrier island with several miles of wide white sand beaches, nesting ground of sea turtles. Tidal marshes. Spanish moss. Sea shells. Lighthouse. Shrimp boats. Fresh seafood. Watch sunrises and sunsets from porch swings on the beach. No high-rises (35 ft building height limit). North end of the island is quiet and serene. Most of the beach goers are on the south end at the long pier and pavilion where you find the classic beach shopping --- T-shirts, beach towels, gifts, umbrella drinks. Just 20 minutes from historic Savannah and its multitude of art galleries, restaurants, and entertainments including theatre, a music festival, and a film festival.

Other Activities: kayak tours, dolphin tours
