The Hideaway Plumbago Villa is situated in five private acres with live in on site Management and is fenced for security. We overlook the ocean and a few hundred feet from the beach with safe swimming and snorkeling. There are three blue holes (underwater caves) and two reefs. Walk the beach in either direction for miles, you may see no-one for days, just the ripple of the water, birds and sounds of the fish jumping in the water. Take your line and fish right from the beach, then barbecue your catch and enjoy your meal and watch the incredible sunsets. We are also located in a bonefish area. Internet is in the Villa. We have a small fishing boat with Captain that can be rented for fishing, snorkeling and sightseeing trips by the half or full day.
We arrived via Nassau to Freport from the Uk.We opted to be met and taken to Basset Cove. The villa is stunnig, spacious and is also the show home. Wide screen TV all channels including soccer, even more than back home! pleased the other half. We were able to relax on the patio or walk straight down to the coves and the Sea. So clear and perfect to swim and snorkel. We brought our geer and also fished the blue holes from the shore.A really great experiece for all. On site reception centre for free inernet our skype calls home and local shop and takeaway and bar restaurant. We really made friends with the locals, they took us fishing twice and we were all sad to leave. This is our new hideaway that we hope to return and rent next year. We went into town to do a swim with the dolphins trip and then after a restauant in port Lucaya where we dined and enjoyed the free live entertainment. WE walked accross the road to the Casino and then back to our hideaway. Safe to walk here and they are very old fashioned English speaking, courtious and friendly. No traffic jams. The whole Island is huge and not too many people. Highly recommended, the perfect getawy.
The 5 of us finally arrived after not having google maps available to us. We relied on the kindness of the Bahamian people to find the place. Once we arrived, we were thrilled at the space we all had and the layout of the villa. James and Oscar the dog appear once in a while, but other than that, we had the whole grounds to ourselves. Great beach a short walk away. Would recommend to any family who wants a place 1/2 hour from the action.. We enjoyed it.
I hate to write a review because I don't want it to be taken next time...upon rolling in we were a little worried because it is pretty isolated, but after we settled in it was paradise. The water is beautiful, the beaches pristine. The house immaculate. The owners were very helpful along with the staff that resides there. If you seek solitude, and only waves crashing to the shore it is the place to be. I can't wait to go back. If you have teenagers looking for a little more excitement it may not be the place, but for everyone else, here it is.
We came over to celebrate my daughter's graduation and for much needed R&R. We were greeted by Liz ,John and Sharley the dog, made us feel instantly right at home. The Villa is lovely! We did rent a car and we needed it to go back and forth from town. We swam in the beautiful Ocean every day! The blue holes were amazing and the water is beautifully clear and blue. We did not have a worry in the world with James on site to help with anything we had questions about... And Oscar the lab. Thank you for an amazing time that we plan on making a yearly event. Lori, Kait, Shar, Emily and Ari....
The villa is as nice as the pictures, maybe even better. Beach is great. Unless we drove into town we didn't see people unless we walked a half mile or so to the next developed spot along the beach. And then we saw only one person there. If you want a getaway in a beautiful three bedroom villa without people nearby, this is the place. There were also a handful of lesser types of units there, but the only occupants we saw were arrivals on the eve of our departure. Liz and James were great to deal with. We drove our rental car around to eat and shop and see beaches and parks, but could have stayed the whole time at the villa and been perfectly content (assuming you like solitude). My two college age daughters were perfectly happy to walk the beach, swim, read in the hammock, etc. We even went to the supermarket and bought food and grilled burgers a few times. I took one of the kayaks out for a spin, too. Would definitely go back. .
We were thrilled to find the Hideaway when looking for a quiet place for a quick getaway. We traveled with another couple and our two young children, aged 2 and 4, and our 4 year old best describes it as her "favorite vacation ever."
The villa is superb, very clean, incredibly spacious and equipped with any and every dish and appliance you might wish for when cooking at the house. The porch is perfect - either for sunning while reading a book or for all of our meals which we enjoyed in the screened-in area.
Then there is the beach. The photos we saw before booking simply do not do the beach justice - it is exquisite. White sand, shallow calm water - perfect for paddling about in the kayaks with the children (so calm we didn't even put lifejackets on them).
At night, after the children were asleep, we would sit on the lawn with a glass of wine and stargaze (usually arguing over which constellation was which). It was splendid.
Our caretakers went above and beyond for us; when we mentioned that our 2 year old complained of an earache we were escorted to Dr. B and seen within 20 minutes. We later saw Dr. B at the local hangout on the water and were greeted like old friends. The owners, John and Liz, shared the same familial spirit - concerned about us traveling home during rough seas, they went out of their way to look into alternate travel arrangements for us.
There is plenty to do if you never leave the property - from the sea life (we saw stingrays, starfish, even black-tipped sharks) to beach exploration to simply catching up on a good book. When you do want to venture out, there are several local restaurants nearby along with the Lucaya National Reserve and of course, the Port Lucaya marketplace.
In short, we will definitely return - and next time we will test our fishing skills - Hideaway Villa is something special.
Bevans Town is a small village (only 200 inhabitants). 24 miles east of the Freeport International airport on the Grand Bahama Highway. Quiet and set besides Bassett Cove the place to swim snorkel or just relax and wonder the beach. (Port Lucaya with its many restaurants night life and casinos etc is an easy drive on a good road with little traffic). Bevans Town has a village store, gas station and take away. Also there is a bar and restaurant nearly, both within easy walking distance.
A few miles further east is High Rock with two beachbars serving great freshly cooked local foods. The Hideaway Villas are secluded, spread out, very private and the place to get away from it all and get back to nature, relax and just enjoy the simple life. You are sure to receive a great and friendly reception from the locals. They go out of there way to provide you with lobster and fresh fish etc. You'll feel safe here and will enjoy your privacy and when you feel like Company then a friendly reception is always available.
