About Sam Hunt

I have been coming to Kiawah since 1962, when my parents bought a house on the Island from Mr. Royal. It was a jungle island then, with a rickety wood bridge, dirt roads, 12 houses on Eugenia Avenue by the beach (many are still there), and incredible nature. We have loved Kiawah and the Charleston area. There is never a dull day.

Sam Hunt purchased this house in 1996

Why Sam Hunt chose Kiawah Island

Our house is a sunny, comfortable, refuge next to quite lagoon on a quiet street. Waking up each morning and seeing the fish jumping in the lagoon out of the glass bedroom sliding doors is a beautiful start to the day.

A great time

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with the house and its quiet location. The décor in the living room was very comfortable, just right for our family. The master bedroom is really pleasant and light, with it's own TV, access to the deck, and a great view of the lagoon. The master bath is spacious, and includes a large Jacuzzi. We loved the comfortable, open design of the living room, dining room and kitchen- perfect for socializing and relaxing together, and the large dining room table was a real plus. The kitchen was equipped with everything you would want for cooking and serving.

The deck was great, quiet and with a view of the lagoon, which is only 30 feet or so from the deck. We rented bikes and had fun biking around the island. There are well-maintained bike trails everywhere, and the terrain is flat- just our speed. We especially enjoyed biking on the beach. The house is not within walking distance of the beach, but it was easy to bike there, just 7 or 8 minutes through some pretty areas. We would definitely return to this house again.

Home away from home---but better!

  • 5 of 5

Staying in this home is a delight. Not only is it in a beautiful and peaceful location, it is impeccably furnished and maintained. You're a 7-10 minute bike ride away from the beach. You can also drive to one of several access points if you need to haul lots of gear to the beach.

And the beach. Oh, my! One of the most spectacular of the sea islands (and I've experienced several). Nice, clean and family-oriented beach. Rent beach cruiser bikes (easy and inexpensive) and ride the beach while the tide is out or going out.

The house is furnished with comfort and utility in mind. There's a spectacular kitchen (I want it in my home) that makes it easy and fun to cook. It's well-provisioned with kitchen tools, implements, storage (of course you need to bring stuff). Furniture is comfortable but not fussy, and can accommodate a crowd. Great BBQ.

Expect to spend time on a lovely wide porch with lots of seating that overlooks a pond with jumping fish and many birds.

Sleeping arrangements range from terrific (master) to comfortable. My guests and I all appreciated the ample closet and storage space.

There are several restaurants or food options within 10-20 minute drive. There are many options if you want to go off-island and drive a bit further.

I cannot wait to go back.

23 Marsh Edge

  • 5 of 5

It was a wonderful week for me on Kiawah Island and to add to my stay was the wonderful home at 23 Marsh Edge Ln. This house on Kiawah was unbelievably decorated that was very inviting and comfortable. The master suite was on the main level that is very large with a sitting area for TV watching or just gazing at the Lagoon in the backyard. The Master Bathroom is large, functional and very well planned out besides having beautiful tile work. The kitchen is well stocked will all the necessary items to prepare wonderful meals using fresh low country seafood and veggies that may be served intimately at the breakfast nook or in the separate dinning area. There are two separate bedrooms upstairs with a bath and the house has a private outdoor shower. The back of this house has large covered porches with part of it being screened with nice comfortable furnishings. In the backyard is a huge Lagoon that's naturally landscaped that you can birdwatch and enjoy the quietness of the outdoors. I rode to the beach due to my broken leg, the drive was a very short distance the scenery is beautiful easy parking available at the beach and the Kiawah Beach is absolutely majestic. I am looking forward to my next visit to the island and to stay again in this very nice comfortable home.

Beautiful home, complete, and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

The island is beautiful and it is fun to take advantage of the bike paths and the beach. It is very lush and nicely developed with the homes set off the roads and with space between homes. The use of the lagoons adds greatly to the ambiance and beauty. For someone from the Pacific Northwest the warm ocean water was a treat. There was really only one day when the humidity was really noticeable and if one sought out the breeze even that was okay. the close by observation tower was a treat, we could even hear the clack clack the posted sign told us about. A very relaxing atmosphere and good for a break from "the real world".

I enjoyed the feel of a smaller city and the smaller airport. Friendly people and easy to get around in. We had drinks and a snack at the Andell in Freshfields one evening and greatly enjoyed the Port Authority 4 man band that was playing. Really good dance music. The next night a concert was held in the open area of Freshfields. The concert was well attended with folks bringing their lawn chairs and the kids running around being kids. I believe lots of ice cream was eaten and glasses of wine sipped.

Wonderful. Beyond our expectations

  • 5 of 5

We have finally had a chance to post about our stay in this wonderful house. My family stayed in this lovely home on Kiawah during the last week of July and had the best and most relaxing vacation of our very busy lives. The house was in a perfect location to run away from our stressful life (2 teenagers & a child with a disability) & allow all of us to relax & explore what the island had to offer . We biked with our Autistic daughter on the beach for miles almost every day, & also through beautiful bike paths. (you don’t need to bring bikes as the weekly rental is very reasonable & the bikes are in great condition & very sturdy). My husband & son spent many days fishing in the surf. And even spent a day on a charter fishing trip near by.(The guy at Dick’s sporting goods helped rig us up with some local setups). We took nature walks, appreciated the natural surroundings (including the alligators, deer and other wildlife), and loved the wide varieties of great Southern food. The house is in a beautiful, quiet, location overlooking a lovely lagoon. My son fished off the big back deck as we watched the eagle in the tree keeping an eye on him fishing each day looking for his meal. It was unreal! This house felt like home from the minute we stepped through the door. We loved the sense of cozy intimacy for us to return to after a busy day. The master bedroom is huge, beautiful and very comfortable. You wake up each morning to see the lagoon, and often jumping fish. Grandma & my daughter picked the cute girlie room upstairs with twin bed (very nice size). The boys had their own room next door. The house is warm and very comfortable, providing a welcome and quiet retreat that made us relax and feel like we were truly living in a home away from home which made our life very easy for that week because of our circumstances. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed. We cooked, we baked, set-up for picnics on the beach & enjoyed great restaurants on the island minutes away. The owner was an absolute pleasure to work with, and made everything easy. We have vacationed at other ocean locations in South and North Carolina, but this Island called Kiawah is definitely our favorite. We had a terrific family vacation in this wonderful island retreat. We are already planning a return to this beautiful Island home.

Kiawah and its beach deserve their world class reputations. The ocean water is comfortably warm but still refreshing from June to September, there are often great waves for body surfing, the sand can’t be beat for sand castles, and kids love the tidal wading pools. The island's 30 miles of bike trails meander though all sorts of habitats. Of course the island includes its renowned, award winning golf courses and tennis facilities, and there is a wonderful children's camp filled with daily activities and excursions. Guests may join the Nature Center’s walking, van, bike, canoe, kayak, and boat tours and other activities. The upscale Freshfields Village, with its excellent grocery store, coffee shops and other stores, is nearby. A marina with deep-sea fishing and sailing charters are located at the nearby Bohicket Marina. It’s easy to get to Charleston. Family style and fine restaurants are located on the island, just off island and, of course, in Charleston, only 24 miles away.
