It is a perfect place to relax while enjoying the beauty and activities of Acadia National Park and the quaint Mt. Desert Island villages. Desert offers.
The large deck is a perfect place to grill (Weber) or to watch the busy activity on the ocean.. Step down from the deck to the shore on a soft pine needle path. Enjoy the home's beautiful professional landscaping. Walk to the charming village of Southwest Harbor or to the free Island Explorer bus which will carry you and your bikes throughout Mt. Desert.

Summer in Maine! Whatever you have heard is true. We discoverd Mt. Desert Island, Acadia National Park and Southwest Harbor in the 1970's and every summer has been wonderful. So many things to do. Not enough time, so we return year after year.
This house is truly a favorite of mine. This was an overdue return visit since I kept remembering the view and lovely town and have been wishing to return. And it didn't disappoint!
Every time I walk into the living room, every bit of tension just melts away when I see the wall of windows with that black blue water peeking through the trees. I can only imagine that someone must have planned the grounds perfectly to provide lovely yet natural looking flowers, shrubs, and flora and skillfully placed trees that allow for an incredible view without sacrificing privacy. Just a perfect location since it is only moments to Southwest Harbor yet you feel like you are a million miles from everything. Great star watching at night by the way.
In my previous review, I cited how well stocked the house is, and if anything, I think the house is even better stocked than last time; Tons of kitchen utensils, cookware, dishes, even books and games. It also has good, reliable internet. The owners are as helpful as can be. This place is very versatile and perfect for a family get away since it is kid friendly with lots of chairs for seating at the huge granite kitchen Island or the long harvest style dining table, or great for a romantic getaway or a girls weekend. I do like the fact it is so nice and quiet but yet Bar Harbor is only a short drive away.
Loved this property and it will be our first choice desire for future Acadia vacations.
Our stay at the cottage was more than we could have imagined. The setting was lovely with a full moon shining on the water from the great room window. The cottage was well decorated and it felt like you were at home but on vacation. It had ever thing you need and then some. We loved the fact that we could take a short walk(5 minutes) to get fresh lobster dinners and then browse the downtown Southwest Harbor. Our son and daughter-in-law had date night each night in the window seat. One on his computer and the other reading her book. Just too cute!!! We really liked the fact that we could be in the park in about half an hour and also to Bar Harbor. We were very thankful that we could leave the bustle of Bar Harbor and return to our cozy quiet cottage. So glad we chose not to stay in Bar Harbor but enjoyed the quiet side of the Island. The owners happen to be in town at the same time and offered many suggestions but still gave us our privacy. We enjoyed meeting them. We would and have recommended it to many of our friends. We could not have been any more pleased with our choice in this cottage. One of our better vacations because there was something to do for all our ages.
My wife and I just enjoyed a lovely stay with our baby at this cozy cabin on the water. The house was in great shape, with a fully stocked kitchen, washer & dryer and pleasant furniture and decor. Furthermore, the owners (who spend the summer next door) were gracious and hospitable hosts-- they lent us their walking sticks for hiking around Acadia!
We loved being in quaint Southwest Harbor, away from the touristy bustle of Bar Harbor. The home is steps away from Beal's Lobster Pound and about 15 minutes from "downtown" SH. The back porch looks out (through trees) to gorgeous Somes Sound, and we took advantage of the kayaks provided to paddle around and see some wildlife.
Looking forward to our return trip!
Everything about this house was wonderful. We loved the pictures of the house before we arrived but it was actually even better than in the pictures. The house was clean, spacious, and comfortable. We really enjoyed being on the quiet side of the island and being on the water was perfect. Our kids (ages 3, 6, and 8) loved skipping rocks on the beach and the kayaks were an added benefit. We cooked most of our meals at the house and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. We also appreciated the helpful recommendations left by Ed for restaurants, hiking, etc. We took many hikes on this side of the island and when we did go into Bar Harbor it was an easy drive. Ed was a pleasure to deal with and returned our security deposit within a few days of our return home. I highly recommend this house and without a doubt would choose to stay here again if we return to Maine.
This is the second time we've stayed at this cottage in Southwest Harbor. Our most recent stay was very special as we renewed our vows on the beach right down the sweet-scented pine needle path from the house. It was just the two of us and Ed allowed us to have a photographer take photos wherever we liked. The day and photos turned out beautifully. Lupines were in bloom and the sun was shining - although not too hot.
Once again, the location can not be beat. We walked to Beal's, Cafe 2 (wonderful dinner - Nancy the owner is a gem) and Sea Biscuits. We had a nice wine tasting at Sawyer's Specialities the afternoon we arrived. We also rented bikes from Southwest Cycle. Getting to and from Acadia is a breeze from this quaint little town. We drove through Bar Harbor on the way back one day and while it wasn't even full season yet the traffic was crazy. The quiet side is much preferred by us. Thanks Ed for helping to make our anniversary so special. We'll be back.
Acadia National Park is here! Great climbing, hiking, walking, views and scenic drives.
