Gasquet Cabin Rental Photos and Description

1Bedroom, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6

Our cabin is located 17 miles from Crescent City off of Highway 199 in a quiet secluded country setting, We are surrounded by the Smith River National Recreation Area. Our cabin overlooks the river, an organic garden, and large lawns. The Smith River is one of the largest undamed wild and scenic watersheds in the United States. Unparalleled in beauty and tranquility. Solitude and pristine, natural settings can be found throughout the area. Over 65 miles of trails give access to the botanical areas, forested ridges, craggy peaks, grassy meadows, scenic rivers, and mountain lakes.

The spectacular Northern California coastline is only 20 minutes away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To Future Guest looking at this book- now don't you feel smug for having discovered what has to be the nearest place this side of perfect... certainly in southern Oregon/northern California. I live in Brookings (on the coast) and while we enjoy the ocean, there is nothing on this earth more relaxing and restorative than a pristine river in the wilderness. And such luxurious "digs"... Hard to call this a cabin.

A big round of applause to Kris & Mike for getting everything absolutely perfect. An even bigger vote of gratitude for their willingness to share this magical place with we lucky few people. Within the first hour here, I told Kris we were never leaving... not very original but certainly heartfelt.

We too, loved Mattie's gentle presence, and how about that "pocket rocket" Nellie.

To think that we can come again makes our hearts sing.

Fantastic well maintained property in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay here. Loved the location, the enchanting river, clean cottage and wonderful hot tub. The caretaker, Eileen, was fantastic. We would definitely recommend parking across the bridge and walking in, even if you have a 4 wheel drive. It is a lovely walk, easy and saves driving time. Our only complaint with our stay was the comfort of the bed. The mattress is a sleep number mattress that we could not seem to get to work and it was topped by soft foam which was hard on our backs.

Tranquil Setting in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We loved the walk across the footbridge to our well-appointed cabin along the Smith River. The view of the river from the windows was fantastic and we enjoyed watching and listening to the water rush. Unfortunately, we had almost continuous rain during our 2-day stay, but we still took the opportunity to walk down by the river, walk along the banks, and discover the numerous variety of stones along the shore. The hot tub was perfect on a chilly night. The home is very warm and welcoming. We had everything we needed. It would be great to get back when the weather is better to explore more of the property and get out on the river. Our stay was very quiet and relaxing. We predicated that the only sounds we heard were the wind and water.

Fantastic romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Although right off the state highway, the Middlefork Ranch seems worlds away thanks to the trees and river. Nicely secluded with river sounds all night and great views from the deck. Hosts were quick to help with any questions or needed totes across the access bridge. Be aware that there is no cell service and the house wi-fi is pretty slow (since it's satellite 'broadband'). But if you're looking for a relaxing unplugged stay experience, then that's a benefit. Looking forward to coming back again!

This was a great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had 3 generations on our trip and this was a great place for all. We loved walking over the footbridge to get to the cabin. The grounds are beautiful and getting down to river was easy. We spent our days hiking in the redwoods, playing at the beach in Crescent City and swimming in the river and we ended every day soaking in the hot tub! There are only a couple of things that we would change, first the bed was soft and the dish tv didn't have ESPN or any other sports channels and we were looking forward to watching some college football in the evenings. Overall this is a great place and we are already planning our next visit!

Relaxing Home near the Redwoods

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay at Middlefork Ranch was amazing.

The cabin was clean, had everything we could ever need for cooking, and the hot-tub... right after we dropped off our stuff, that was where we went. The description doesn't do it justice.

We were greeted by the owner upon arriving, he helped us get our stuff across the walkway, showed me how to use the heater, and then never bothered us again until we were ready to leave. We had our privacy uninterrupted.

The drive to get there went right through the redwoods, giving us a winding, beautiful path to travel each day. Only a few short miles to the trail-heads, a few more to Crescent City, so everything was very conveniently located. Crescent City was easy to navigate and had all the groceries and restaurants we could ask for, as well as amazing beaches. I'm pretty sure that the cabin was one of the closest ways to stay to the park that wasn't a hotel or motel.

We took nearly 500 photos while were on vacation, quite a few at the cabin. The happy memories of this place will stay forever.
