Our cabin overlooks the river, an organic garden, and large lawns. The Smith River is one of the largest undamed wild and scenic watersheds in the United States. Unparalleled in beauty and tranquility. Solitude and pristine, natural settings can be found throughout the area. Over 65 miles of trails give access to the botanical areas, forested ridges, craggy peaks, grassy meadows, scenic rivers, and mountain lakes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To Future Guest looking at this book- now don't you feel smug for having discovered what has to be the nearest place this side of perfect... certainly in southern Oregon/northern California. I live in Brookings (on the coast) and while we enjoy the ocean, there is nothing on this earth more relaxing and restorative than a pristine river in the wilderness. And such luxurious "digs"... Hard to call this a cabin.

A big round of applause to Kris & Mike for getting everything absolutely perfect. An even bigger vote of gratitude for their willingness to share this magical place with we lucky few people. Within the first hour here, I told Kris we were never leaving... not very original but certainly heartfelt.

We too, loved Mattie's gentle presence, and how about that "pocket rocket" Nellie.

To think that we can come again makes our hearts sing.

Relaxing Home near the Redwoods

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay at Middlefork Ranch was amazing.

The cabin was clean, had everything we could ever need for cooking, and the hot-tub... right after we dropped off our stuff, that was where we went. The description doesn't do it justice.

We were greeted by the owner upon arriving, he helped us get our stuff across the walkway, showed me how to use the heater, and then never bothered us again until we were ready to leave. We had our privacy uninterrupted.

The drive to get there went right through the redwoods, giving us a winding, beautiful path to travel each day. Only a few short miles to the trail-heads, a few more to Crescent City, so everything was very conveniently located. Crescent City was easy to navigate and had all the groceries and restaurants we could ask for, as well as amazing beaches. I'm pretty sure that the cabin was one of the closest ways to stay to the park that wasn't a hotel or motel.

We took nearly 500 photos while were on vacation, quite a few at the cabin. The happy memories of this place will stay forever.

The cabin, location and atmosphere was wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

It is clear the owners take pride in the cabins and the property. Our stay was quiet, private and peaceful. The cabin had everything we needed from kitchen living room bathroom to bedroom. The place was clean and homey. The kids were always busy exploring playing and the best part was fires right by the Smith River. The only problem we ever emcoutnered was with our tub having a bit of a stronger than normal chemical smell and not wanting to get hot enough, but other than that we had zero problems. We will for sure be back to stay again. The owers Kris and her husband were helpful friendly and made the stay perfect!!!

Enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

Everything's amazing! I spent two wonderful nights with my parents. The cabin is extra clean. And the facility is advanced and perfect. The experience on the Smith river is great. Everything is unforgettable for all of us. Hope to come here with friends again. A very wise choice to stay here as a rest stop traveling from San Francisco to Portland!

A beautiful welcoming home

  • 5 of 5

We were so glad to have stayed here for a couple of days. Everything was clean, well organized and ready to go even with our early check-in. Kris and the caretaker were very helpful and welcoming. We loved the fresh air. Will definitely recommend this place to our family and friends. We hope to stay there again in the future :)

Perfect

***Note: the bed is very soft with a memory foam topper. We couldn't sleep on it but I bet if we stay again and ask for it to be removed, I think they would***

We traveled a good distance with our 15 month old just to get to this cabin and couldn't have been more pleased. The grounds are gorgeous and there is so much to do. There are chickens, a pond with turtles, geese, ducks, guinea fowl and a sweet dog named Phoebe (that was neat because our daughter's name is Phoebe too!) We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Mike or Kris but we got to know Laura the caretaker a little and we really liked her a lot. We could see coming here as often as possible. The house has everything you need and feels so comfortable and homey. I STILL miss the hot tub :-( The house had like 6 or so books FILLED with page after page of guest notes.

I got a little confused on the directions, but that was totally my fault after being cross eyed and weary from hours in the car. So make sure you read the directions a few times before you start traveling.

If you can, stay as long as possible! You won't regret it. Thank you McMillans!
