The 3-room apartment is the Reykjavik home of an artist family that is based in Reykjavik and Berlin. It has been designed by the owner in a personal unique way. The apartment is ideally situated for tourists close to everything. It is THE center of Reykjavik. The heart.
The apartment is clean and tidy up to hotel standards with linen, towels and little extras provided.
The mattresses on the beds are new and care for your health. The kitchen was custom made by the same carpenter that build the kitchen for Bjork. The bathroom is modern standards. Personal music and book library, family furniture and eccentric items make the apartment cozy and warm and ideal for feeling like a local.
The house is a typical 1930s construction with 3 apartments, one on each floor plus a basement and a back garden. In the basement there is a washing room with washing machine. Young families live in the other apartments. The apartment is on the 3rd floor (counting the ground floor as the 1st floor) and has 2 bedrooms and a living room.
It is on Grettisgata close to the corner of Baronsstigur (google). The parallel street is Laugavegur. The main street of Reykjavik for shopping and walking around, enjoying street life. Still Grettisgata is local. If you walk up the road next door on the left there is a beautiful indoor swimming pool extensively photographed by artist Roni Horn. It is fully equipped with sauna, fitness equipment and outside chill area and hot tubs where you can gaze at the Nordic lights (in winter). Across the pool there is the local school with basketball court freely available to the public during the summer holiday months (May till August). Walking down Baronsstigur you first cross the Laugavegur, main shopping street before bumping into a 24 hours store and ending within few minutes at the seafront hiking route with its breathtaking mountain range across the bay. Another good place to spot the Nordic Lights. Other noteworthy amenities include Te og Kaffi bookshop and coffee house on the corner of Baronsstigur and Laugavegur; Bonus, the Icelandic discount food store, few minutes walk down Laugavegur; and Hlemmur, the main city bus terminal, few minutes walk up Laugavegur with easy connections to all the other places in the city.
Note that the apartment does not have a TV.
We are a family of four that live mostly in Berlin Germany. Our daughters are 6 and 3 year old. We stay in Grettisgata perhaps 2-4 months a year.
The flat I´m renting out is the gem of my eye, my personal home with lots of love put into it. Treat it nice please :-)

This is the liveliest corner of Reykjavik. Ideal for a car free downtown lifestyle with its pedestrians and coffee shops.
Downtown and local! People are out and about. Everything is within a few minutes walk. People, culture, nature, transport, good food and expresso! The apartment itself is full of cozy character.
As we stayed 10 days at Hulda's apartment, we could say we felt at home... Lots of advantages to stay there, close from activities of city center but with no night noises. Building is quiet and the flat offer a great view on a big tree, that is not so evident in Iceland ;)
5 min by walk from swimming pool, Sundhöll Reykjavíkur, and from a walk along the shore. Parking is possible at 1 min. We felt free to do what we wanted, stay in Reykjavik or visit region (like skiing at Bláfjöll !!)
Well equipped with everything we needed for cooking, sleeping (very good bed !!), bathroom, and lots of electric sockets !!

My wife and I stayed in this apartment for 6 days in December. The apartment is well located, just a block from the main shopping street just east of central Reykjavik. We rented a car. It is pay parking on the street in front of the apartment ( from 9am to 6pm ) but free parking on the adjacent streets away from the main shopping street. We found spots for our small car by parallel parking around the corner on Baronstigur street and perpendicular parking one block away on Njaisgata street or two blocks away on Bergbordgata, next to the large enclosed swimming pool complex.
We ate all meals in the apartment, a large Bonus grocery is only three blocks away. The kitchen is good size with a large amount of counter space. We missed having a microwave, it is an essential appliance these days. Also missing was a small frying pan essential for frying or sautéing various items for two people. The apartment was well heated by the hot water radiators in every room.
The bathroom is small but features a full length tub with shower. I enjoyed soaking in hot water in the tub. Note that the hot water from the faucets is very hot. The sink in the bathroom does not protrude very far from the wall. It is good for washing hands, but for brushing teeth or washing your face; it is best done in the kitchen sink.
The living room and bedrooms were warm, and comfortable.
This property was perfect for my wife and me to base our trip to south and west Iceland from. The location is walkable from the flybus and there is a car rental 1.5 blocks away! In fact, you can walk just about anywhere you need to go in Reykjavik.
Hulda has really made this place really cool and comfortable (the bed was very nice). It was very clean and spacious. The hot water has a distinct sulphur smell but from what we have heard, that is very common in Iceland and it doesn't stay with you after a shower. I would highly recommend Hulda's apartment.
The communication prior to the trip was great, making the planning stress-free and easy. I loved everything about the apartment. It was great to see the sights all day and look forward to getting back to my home for the week. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked well. You can walk anywhere for food, shopping, sight-seeing in the city. I had a rental car, and on most days was gone prior to the time the paid parking kicked in (9am during the week). It wasn't difficult to get in and out of the city with the rental vehicle from the apartment.
I would certainly stay there again -thanks!
Though there was a little mix-up on my arrival time and the flat was not ready the young woman who let me in was both helpful and accommodating. The location is fantastic for exploring all of downtown Reykjavik and the surrounding museums, restaurants, and shops. The space was older so don't expect an ultra modern flat but it was comfortable and served me perfectly. I'd stay again if in Iceland!
Great apartment, clean, warm rooms, with a bright and sunny aspect. Perfect location close to main shopping streets, wonderful coffee shops, restaurants. Good for sightseeing too. I'd definitely stay here again on my next trip to Reykjavik!

The apartment is on Grettisgata downtown in the middle of everything, bars, restaurants, groceries, shopping. Use www.ja.is to find Grettisgata on a map.
2 minutes from main city bus terminal Hlemmur with buses to all the suburbs. 15 minutes walk to the BSI bus terminal with busses to the Blue Lagoon and airport. The swimming pool is next door and has sauna, hot tubs and fitness equipment. Down the street, 2 minutes is a beautiful hiking route along the seafront with mountain view. Up the road 2 minutes there is the Hallgrimskirkja church that towers over Reykjavik cityscape. The old bank down the street was recently converted into a nice bookshop café where you can enjoy croissants and expresso while checking out travel books.

I receive payment via Paypal or wire bank transfer. Reservation is made when half the payment has been received and the 2nd payment needs to arrive no later than half a month prior to arrival. For long stays in summer one month prior to arrival.
