About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Relax or enjoy Austin's sights from this unique setting: a beautifully restored Craftsman- style house built in 1911 and registered as an Austin Historical Landmark. It sits on a beautifully landscaped one-half acre lot in the quiet Hyde Park area of the city just north of the University of Texas campus. Completely renovated, yet conserving the graceful ambience of the original home, Harris Park Guest House is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and mid-twentieth century modern furniture. The fully equipped kitchen and formal dining room are ideal for cooking, dining, even entertaining.

Located at the corner of Harris Park Avenue and 32nd Street, just 1/2 mile west of Interstate 35, it is easy to reach and serves as a great base for exploring Austin's many attractions: 1.5 miles from the State Capitol, 1.2 miles from the Elizabet Ney Museum, 5 miles from Barton Springs, 2 miles from Sixth Street, 1.5 miles from the Blanton Museum. A host of wonderful restaurants are within walking distance or an easy drive. Not into sightseeing? If you want relaxation, then this is your place! The house offers lots of comfortable, cozy nooks to curl up with a good book, to watch TV, or to listen to the stereo. Three paved patios offer great outdoor spots for sitting, relaxing, reading, or watching passersby. On football weekends, walk to the stadium in minutes (3/4 mile away), or sit on the front porch and watch an endless stream of people in burnt orange walk by.

Do your kids live in Austin? This is the perfect spot! Visit as long as you like, but have a place all your own, and still big enough to have the whole family over for dinner. The perfect nest for 'snowbirds' during winter! Whatever brings you to Austin, Harris Park Guest House offers a great alternative to hotel accommodations at very reasonable rates!

Ann Watson and Jay Allison purchased this house in 2008

Why Ann Watson and Jay Allison chose Austin

Austin is like no other place on earth! It has everything: culture, arts, scenery, sports, good climate (well, pretty good in summer, great in winter!), restaurants, and fun places to walk. Harris Park Guest House is right in the middle of it all; just minutes from UT, downtown, the Blanton Gallery, Town Lake, and Lake Austin. Great parks, shopping and eating all within an easy walk.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this house the first time we saw it. Built in 1911, an Austin historic landmark home, it has been completely renovated, and offers modern comfort and convenience in a turn of the century setting. The half-acre grounds have three stone patios with seating for relaxation and outside dining. The kitchen and dining room offer ideal facilities for entertaining

and meal preparation. The neighborhood is fantastic for walking. All in all, Harris Park Guest House is perfect as a base from which to explore Austin, or just as a place to hang out and relax!

Awesome home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this great house for my Sons graduation from The University of Texas and we could not have made a better choice. There was more than enough room Myself and my Wife plus three other Adults that stayed with us. You could feel the history in this great old home. We enjoyed setting in the backyard with the 100 year old oak trees watching the fireflies at night. This house is close to everything and sets in the middle of a very quiet neighborhood. The kitchen is upgraded and has everything you would need to cook at home. I would highly recommend this home to anyone who wants to stay in Austin and get away from the crowded and cramped Hotel experience.

Charming Historical House, Great Neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great home and location for people who appreciate character in a property. In addition to the historical home which has been upgraded to well-appointed modern standards, the grounds are spacious and beautiful, giving guests a heavy dose of central Texas charm with the towering live oak trees. The location is also unbeatable. Some of the sleeping arrangements might be a little challenging with a large group, but our group of six was very comfortable on our law school reunion weekend. Happy to report that we made a good choice!

spectacular home in great location, excellent hosts

  • 5 of 5

This is my fourth time staying here in this beautiful house. It is one of the most gorgeous, well designed homes I've ever stayed in. I love the outdoors spaces and yard, which are great for enjoying the warm weather of Austin. Close to the university and lots more. Communicating with Anne and Jay is always a pleasure; they are responsive, kind, and quick. Thank you for hosting our family! We loved our stay at your home!
