We had a great time and checked out Sunday. THE BEACH HOUSE IS GREAT.I would suggest that you put an outdoor plug around the sink for cleaning fish with an electrical knife or listening to a radio while you are barbequeing. We will rent again.
We appreciate this good review and the reviewer's positive suggestions. We have added two electrical outlets, one by the outdoor bar and one by the fish cleaning station as suggested. These are ground fault interrupter (GFCI) outlets, for safety of the user. We saw pictures of the fish he was cleaning and they were whoppers!
Very nice house with everything we needed except food :) and we brought plenty! the location and view were just what we wanted. Pets were allowed and there was a fenced in area that was great for letting our dog run. Very comfortable king size bed. Plenty of seating and the TV was huge! Galveston is only about 6 miles away and other restaurants and a General Store and Dollar General are close by. Thanks for sharing Andrea's retreat with us!!
Shame on Me!
I rented this property 2 years ago. The cost was $400 less at that time. Was not impressed with property then, but view and location are fabulous. I am retired and travel extensively (mainly utilizing VRBO). I am not one to write reviews, but feel I should this time. I have been home for 2 days and the "musty smell" of this rental home is still permeating from plastic bags I carried food in, clean clothing, luggage, etc. The decking (which you have to encounter in order to reach front door) is HAZARDOUS. A great deal of decking is not secured as the screws and nails used are rusted and broken off, riddling the walking area with tiny rust-laden pellets which become embedded in soles of shoes, not to mention your FEET! Hosed off deck to no avail. Table on deck is totally rusted. Barbeque grill was filthy. Was supplied with ONE roll of new toilet paper for 3 days (partially used rolls in both bathrooms upon arrival), no paper towels and NO trash can liners. As I DROVE to this location (as opposed to flying as I live 50 miles from Galveston), I brought EXTRA staples such as toilet paper, etc. Owner of this property arrived to adjacently owned rental (Azure Vista) from west Texas residence same day of my arrival to Andrea's Retreat. Marilyn was kind enough to bring over 2 (kitchen) trash bag liners, one roll of toilet paper and one roll of paper towels upon my bringing the situation to her attention. Focus of these owners seem to be on $$$$ (income), not to providing adequate accommodations for the money renters are asked to pay. I have no doubt that the response from owners (if any) will be that Houston had just gone through worst flooding in city's history which was precisely why I fled Houston and rented this property in Galveston. The only issue I observed that could be attributed to "weather issue" was that the end of the street which provides access to beach was washed out. As I walked up and down Palm Beach, this seemed to be an issue on every street as water is obviously going to stream toward Gulf. The only blame for the condition of this property is a lack of maintenance by the owners. New renters were scheduled to come in just hours after my husband and I left. I only hope they did not have children accompanying them because if a rusty nail on the deck penetrated their feet, a tetanus shot would definitely be in order. Accountability should be paramount when renting to the public.
1. Apparently, there was some hurricane damage to the deck, of which we were unaware. This damage will be repaired as soon as the schedule permits. The work has been contracted.
2. We use a cleaning service that services many properties in the area. They are one of the best. They do not replace consumables. Consumables are the responsibility of the renter. Items such as paper goods, soap and laundry detergent, charcoal and lighter fluid are renter responsibilities. We provide a limited supply of toilet tissue as “starter” items. (This is up to the cleaning crew, but our experience has been that they leave two rolls per bathroom.)
3. We provide a charcoal grill as a service, but the cleaning service does not clean grills. This is a user responsibility.
4. The rent price for the house is pretty much the same as two years ago. This renter used the booking service of the listing agency, which charges for booking service. This accounts for the difference in price. We do not charge a booking fee when we rent directly to the renter, even if credit cards are used.
5. A new outdoor table for the deck is on order and will be assembled as time permits.
The house is a beach house, not a hotel. We work diligently to keep the house in the best condition possible. We have on-call maintenance personnel who quickly take care of any problems. This house survived Hurricane Harvey with no damage except for the deck. There was no high water in the yard, but some of the path to the beach was washed away. The city has been contacted to repair this and some attention has been given, but more needs to be done. We can only monitor and report the problem. We have no control over the city’s response.
Great property and location.
My wife and twin 5 year old daughters had a great time. Andrea's Retreat was great, location was perfect for spring break away from the crowds, very clean and had everything we needed. Bobby

My husband and I stayed at Andrea's for a week the first of April - the place is awesome!!! The picture window is exactly as it appears! The house is not front row but the direction it faces and where it is located it certainly seems to be front row. We had a wonderful time at Andreas and can't wait to come back. The owners are very friendly and we will be back to spend more time at Andreas. Highly recommended vacation spot. We didn't take our fur babies, but it would be a safe place to take them.
The time there was without incident and very comfortable. Great time on the beach and not so close that the traffic is a problem. The location is perfect and the facilities are ideal. We enjoyed every moment of our time there. We plan on going back.
