I've been building and remodeling houses since 1975. I've lived in Washington since I was born and really like Northwest Forests. As a youth I played Cello in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra so I've always loved classical music. I have been married to Alice since 1979. We have two daughters and 4 grandchildren. I come up to the Lodge once a month to both relax and also to keep everything in good working order.
Steve Kunkel purchased this house in 2006
I've always wanted to build a cabin in the woods, so we chose a large lot with a lush green forest here in the Northwest. We also wanted a property with a stream running through it located where no highway noise can be heard. It's like having our own little National Park. Property near the ocean would have been nice but I preferred the forest because the forest is rejuvenating for me. From the reviews we have received, I think it is for others as well.
After much consideration it was decided that our Lodge would NOT have a TV. We have cell phone service and a wireless internet for people to stay connected with the world beyond the Lodge. The TV seemed to be the biggest interference for people to connect with each other when at the Lodge so we decided to go without. I think this one feature has contributed the most to the positive and rejuvenating atmosphere at the Lodge. We have games, puzzles, a piano, an outdoor fire pit, badmitten net and a trail through the woods..all activities that people enjoy doing with each other.
Better than expected! This was a great place for several families to get together. Kid friendly and lots of amenities for kids. We had a great time! Thank you again for your communication and wonderful place. It's even better than the description! It would be nice if there was another queen bed, but it wasn't a big deal and we figured it out! Loved the hot tub and sauna. Also the labeling and attention to detail was completely awesome. Take care! We plan to come back next year for our winter retreat. We want to stay longer next time!
Everything about this rental is first class, from the owners' helpful instructions, to the beautiful accomodations. There is plenty of room in the 4+ bedrooms and baths for everyone to feel comfortable, and the large kitchen made it easy and fun for all of our family to join in with meal preparation.
The area is one of great scenic beauty, and we enjoyed day trips to Hurricane Ridge, the Hoh Rain Forest, Ruby Beach as well as closer trips to Dungeness Spit and Sequim. A day trip to Victoria via the Port Angeles ferry was also enjoyed.
The lodge is so welcoming that you'd be very content with just sitting in front of the fireplace or woodstove with a good book (on those rainy days) or enjoying the deck and backyard.
We were adults-only on this trip, but the loft would be a fun place for older kids to sleep.
Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Everything about this property was amazing and far above my expectations. From the moment you book, they will send you ALL the information you need, check in, check out, rules, what’s expected, a packing list (who does that?! THEY DO!), activities, restaurants... literally EVERYTHING. We traveled with a group of 10 adults, and we needed a place to accommodate and sleep all of us comfortably. We were in Port Angeles for a local CrossFit Competition, so I will say, having the hot tub and sauna to help our muscles after a long day of competing was well worth it.
Everything throughout the house is clearly labeled, and we didn’t need to bring much along with us (other than food, of course) because the house had everything we could need and more.
There is one bedroom downstairs right off the kitchen, a couch hide-abed in the living room, along with three total bathrooms (including the master). Upstairs was the 3 bedrooms, the loft/attick space, another couch hide-abed, and two more full bathrooms.
Truly the house is amazing, and immaculate, and well kept. If you have a large group and are going to be in the Port Angeles area, this is the place to stay! Trust me.
Beautiful home in a great location. Exceeded my expectations.
Our group was looking for a place to stay near the Olympic peninsula, we were happy to book this beautiful lodge. Our stay was very nice, this place had everything you would need to have a relaxing time, nice hot tub, nice sauna, nice comfy beds enough to sleep 10 easily, beautiful views, comfortable kitchen, would definitely recommend to book this place and would love to come back!
The home is absolutely beautiful! From my many years of extensive travel, I can honestly say this is one of the cleanest, well maintained homes I have ever stayed. The organization of everything in the home and attention to detail far surpasses the normal rental home. Our group of 7 thoroughly enjoyed the comfort and gorgeous views of this home. I highly recommend this home to anyone traveling in the area!
Steve was so helpful both before and during our stay. The house had everything you could possibly want and exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway weekend with friends or family!
