This home was more than comfortable for all of us. Which included my husband and I and our 2 children ages 4 and 1 1/2, my mom and dad and my 2 brothers. We had relaxing fires while listening to the waves, the kids loved to run on the beach and go on "adventures", my brother enjoyed going for kayak rides and all the men enjoyed fishing even though they didnt catch anything. The owners of the home are super friendly and seem like they want to make sure you have a nice time. So if you are looking for a relaxing time with great views of the lake this is it!
The house was great for our family get-together which included 4 couples, a great-gramma and aunt, and a toddler and baby. Very spacious great room, comfy sitting area, good kitchen, very nice dining table and furnishings. Everyone found good reading material there and quiet places inside and outside. The yard was amazing: flat and nicely landscaped. The babies loved the chimes and kiddie pool from the boathouse. Evenings were spent using the bean bag boards, skipping rocks and having roaring fires in the firepit area. We walked through the Sugar Creek Frisbee Golf course which is adjacent to the house, but did not play it. The roads around the property are very quiet, and the runners in our group put in alot of miles. In Brussels, there is a good sized Super Valu which is good for last minute needs. We took the babies to The Farm petting zoo and liked it. Belgian Delight is a close-by restaurant we enjoyed. Overall, we hardly left the property because we just wanted to soak up the lakeside beauty as much as possible! Gorgeous sunsets, pelicans to watch, hummingbirds zooming about and more...
My mom and six sisters recently stayed and had a fantastic time. The home and surrounding area is beautiful. The owner and his neighbor (who checked us in) were very nice and accommodated all our needs. We spent our long weekend mostly just hanging out at the home, enjoying each other's company and our peaceful surroundings. We would definitely do it again!
Wonderful place to get away with plenty of privacy and lots of room to enjoy family time. Clean and well maintained with beautiful sunsets and great place to have nightly fires. Owner was friendly and helpful, wanting to provide a good experience. Would rent again.
This is a beautiful place to stay and works well for a small family reunion. All 3 of our families enjoyed the house very much. It is well maintained plus spacious enough to spread out. The kids had a great time in the water with the canoes, kayak and fishing. The bikes were a plus but didn't get to use them much unfortunately. The property owner is very good to work with. There also is a person who lives a few houses away that checks you in and out. He is also very helpful with any issues that come up during your stay or with information about things to do in Door County. Brussels is close by for groceries. It is a little drive to the main Door county attractions, but there is plenty to do at the house. It is relaxing to get away from the crowded tourist areas. I would recommend this place to friends and relatives.
Our family spent a week in beautiful Whitestar in August, 2010. After having vacationed in Door County for over 20 years, this is by far, the nicest accomodations. There was plenty of room for everyone, while maintaing privacy and "quiet" areas.
Whitestar provided something for everyone. The kids loved swimming and snorkeling off the pier, and exploring the forest out back. My husband and I were really excited to have found a good fishing spot using the canoe. We had a few great bass and perch meals! The views were breathtaking. Every window to the home provided a beautiful landscape. I wish I would have brought my acrylics!
Rainy days do not mean boring days at Whitestar. The home had a great selection of movies and DVD's along with many fun games and puzzles. Our favorite for the week was a new game called "Bananagrams". We took a few trips into Sturgean bay to shop and visit some local galleries. I would highly recommend visiting the home and garden of Karin Overbeck. Her Evergreen Schoolhouse garden is an amazing mix of mosaics, sculpture, and recycled art incorporated into her garden.
We were truly impressed by the coziness of the home. There must be an artist in the family as seen by the hidden gems throughout the garden! The owners have a very good way of making us feel welcome. There were plenty of pillows, sheets, and blankets. The kitchen was well stocked and the bikes were a huge bonus! The home was exactly as portrayed, if not better. The owner was quick to respond, very polite and helpful.
Looking forward to our return in 2011!
