We moved to Maine from San Francisco about 13 years ago with our daughter and twin boys. We have since had to move elsewhere, but LOVE coming back to Maine. We have moved all over due to my husbands work, but Maine is where my kids consider their home. It is a very special and unique place.
My husband, three children and I moved to Maine about 13 years ago from San Francisco. We fell in love with this historical home at first sight! It needed a little TLC, we have redone all of the gardens, remodeled a little inside and updated, but left original pieces and charm. Our lives have since taken us to other places, but we could never let go of our piece of heaven go! We stay at Diamond Hill when we can, but want to share it with others when we cannot. It is a very special place to all of us. Beyond the beauty and views, we also love the location; a mile away from downtown Camden, but set in the quite village of Rockpport, best of both worlds, a central location but also the peace and quiet. The front deck is fantastic for coffee in the morning, hanging out with everyone in the evening.
Just wanted to touch base with you about our week in Maine. It was
FABULOUS!! The house was amazing and had everything we needed. We had fun with
all the games and puzzles in the evenings!! What a great place and location. We
really enjoyed ourselves and the view from the deck and bedrooms was amazing!!
If we visit again or know anyone heading that way we will definitely refer
them to you.
Enjoy the rest of your summer !
Our family returned to this wonderful home for the second time this summer.
Our family had a wonderful stay at this beautiful, well-maintained home. The house was built in the 1870’s and has the charm and quaintness of an older home but all the modern amenities we appreciate. There was plenty of room for everyone but also enough privacy. The garden and lawn were well-cared for and we all loved the stunning view of the harbor from the back deck...our favorite spot. It was easy to fall in love with this house!
Being mid-coast, Rockport was a great base and a fun village to explore. While there we visited Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, fished in Penobscot Bay, visited Owl’s Head Transportation Museum and Breakwater Winery, viewed lighthouses, and one night attended a very entertaining spoof of Casablanca at the Camden Opera House (which is quite beautiful). There are so many sights to see in the area that you could never get bored. There are also many fine restaurants and great shopping too.
Nina June and 18 Central Oyster Bar & Grill recently opened in Rockport and are just a short walk from the house. The food was very good at both establishments.
Kathie, the owner of the property, was a delight. If we had any questions, she was always very helpful and quick to respond. I would highly recommend a stay at this property. Our family had a memorable Maine vacation and we look forward to coming back again someday!
The house and garden were charming and we had a fantastic view of Rockport Harbor from the patio. The house was very clean, well maintained and very comfortable. The owner, Kathy, was incredibly friendly and helpful and was quick to respond to all our questions. We enjoyed walking around Rockport, biking to Camden, hiking Mount Battie and kayaking in the harbor. The food in the area was great and I highly recommend Shepherd's Pie, a two minute walk down the hill. We loved our stay so much we already booked again next summer!
This house was just beautiful. We loved hanging out on the deck, drinking our morning coffee. In the evening we'd have our drinks here, gazing at the harbor. The house is so well equipped; it really does not feel like a rental at all. Bedding and towels excellent, kitchen is perfect for the serious cook. Decor is imaginative and tasteful, befitting a Victorian mansion. You won't be in need of a thing. Rockport is a gorgeous little village close to Camden, but quiet. Just down the hill from the house is the wonderful Shepherd's Pie restaurant. The best lobster rolls are also an easy walk away. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Oh, the gardens...splendid.
We had a great time at the house. Kathie (the owner) was terrific and easy to work with. The pictures of the house on the web are exactly what you get. The view of the harbor is spectacular. My family had not been to Maine before, so we used the mid-coast location as a base and drove a couple hours up to Acadia to hike and site see. The "beehive" trail is challenging and fun. Stopped at Rock Harbor brew pub on the way back. Nice craft brewery only about 10 minutes down the road. Katie also recommended the sunset cruise on the Schooner Heron. Well worth it. We also drove down to the Marshall Point light house (30 minutes south), which was made (somewhat) famous in Forrest Gump. There's a great eco-kayak tour right there in the harbor. You see seals, porpoises and eagles on the 2.5 hour excursion. Again, great day trip. Finally, the quaint town of Camden is about a 2 mile walk down Union Street. Grabbed a beer at Cappy's while the ladies shopped. All in all, great trip for my family's first visit to Maine.
My family had the perfect vacation in this beautifully furnished home. The view of Rockport Harbor from one of the rocking chairs on the porch was my favorite. Plenty to do around the area, but we, our grown children and their SO's had the best time playing badminton in the yard, enjoying dinners at the big kitchen table, and just relaxing together. Owner was a delight to work with!
