Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeps 6

Escape the hustle and enjoy the north woods as it is meant to be--with pristine, unspoiled vistas, peace, and quiet. We are located on a peninsula on the 200 acre Wind Pudding Lake and with 450 feet of frontage and water on three sides. Wind Pudding Lake is rated as one of the top 10 clearest lakes in Wisconsin by the U. of Wisconsin-Extension Program and Wisconsin has 15,000 lakes. Our house is situated just 60 feet for the shore and commands panoramic 180 degree views.

You will see no neighbors and and have this virtually undeveloped lake for yourself! This lake has limited public access, no resorts, so you can enjoy the serenity. The lake is a beautiful combination of open water with 34 foot depths and areas of lily pads and sedge grasses that attracts a variety of birds and fish. The lake front is unspoiled and teeming with wildlife.

If you are looking to water ski, use jet skis, motor boat, our lake is not where you would want to vacation. If, however, you wish to have peaceful, relaxing vacation with no noise and complete privacy (there are no neighbors in sight), where you can swim, enjoy the eagles nesting on the nearby island, do a little canoeing, fish for something other than trophy fish, we can't be beat.

This property is also available for purchase. If you purchase, rental price up to $1400 will be deducted from purchase price.

We loved this place! So quiet and peaceful. Had fun canoeing, hiking and enjoying nature. House has everything you could need. Owner is very responsive. Would definitely recommend this place. Gorgeous views.

Amazing lake views!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with another couple, had a great trip at Whispers of the Wilderness. The more-than-180 degree views of the lake from the open living room/dining room were wonderful - something that the winter landscape provides with the bare trees. It was very private - you can't see either of the other two cabins from the house. We were able to ski all around the lake and the adjacent smaller lake - a little slippery as the wind had blown the snow leaving some bare ice. We saw 2 fox walking across the lake and the tracks of something a little larger - maybe a coyote - on the lake. We also enjoyed x-c skiing at Winter Park and an afternoon of snow shoeing at Fallison Lake about 1/2 hour north. The house was spotless and the beds comfy. The kitchen had all that we needed to make some good meals. Of note, although we didn't have any problems getting up the driveway with a 4-wheel drive car, I think it might be a little tough without it at times during the winter months - something to consider for winter rentals. At the house there was plenty of room to easily turn the car around in the well-plowed driveway. Thanks, Claire, for the lovely long weekend.

Peaceful solitude

  • 5 of 5

The property is secluded and very peaceful. The leaves were at their peak so the colors were amazing. There are lots of trails in the area for walking and hiking. The house is very nice. It was clean and well maintained. The kitchen had pots and pans so we could cook our own meals if we wanted. I would recommend this house for those who want peace and quiet and solitude.

We spent 2 nights at this very lovely and comfortable house. We did not have any issues with the driveway, it is a very private easement road. Beds were comfortable and home very well furnished, wished we had more time to stay!

We could not even drive to the home! The driveway was soooooo bad small, steep, potholes

  • 1 of 5

I am reserving my review after I talk to the homeowner as we never stayed in the home and never walked in the home we walked allllllll the way to the home. I want to say this so if anyone doesn't have a SUV you will know it's tough to get there as we could not and the ad said nothing about this. I will continue this review later

Owner's Response: This sweet man arrived with a freeway -sized semi-truck and trailer filled with Harley motorcycles and expected to turn around at the end of my woodland cul-de-sac. Wish I could post the photo of his rig here, but Homeaway doesn't have the capacity in these reviews. He couldn't have turned his truck around in any suburban cul-de-sac. He was also concerned that he would get dust on his motorcycles if he drove them on my unpaved road and the short segment of public road to my house that is also unpaved. It's gravel. My dozens of other renters this season have driven this driveway without problems or complaint this summer. I just drove it myself a couple days ago in very small and low to the ground Fiat with no problem. Bring any car you wish. Read the other recent reviews. Exciting sightings. We saw a couple a very rare trumpeter swans on the lake - not once but twice - this last weekend. Now I've seen or heard wolves, black bear, beavers, eagles, otter,, sandhill cranes, and lots of other waterfowl out my window.

Beautiful home on a very secluded pond

  • 4 of 5

The home was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. It was also well stocked with things you may need like - fans (although there is AC), candles (we were there right after a large storm and there was no electricity for 18 hours), board games, videos, wifi. It was also nice that the linens were included (I know some places make you bring your own). It is very quiet and secluded, we saw a ton of birds. We heard the loons but didn't spot them. We saw a few deer, frogs, and turtles. We took the canoe for a spin around the pond -- I would classify this as more of a pond than a lake. For the most part it is shallow. We didn't see any fish, although the pond was incredibly clear and pretty to look at. We found one deep area, if you are looking out at the lake - it is at 2:00 off the island in the middle of the pond. This was the only area we found where our canoe paddles didn't touch bottom. We did see one other fishing boat out on the water during our stay, but didn't see them catch any fish.

One note of warning, if it's raining -- don't drive right up to the house. There was a parking area of mainly dirt/sand that we almost got stuck in. Just keep to the gravel.

If you are looking for a quiet, picturesque getaway - this place is great.

Owner's Response: Yes, my place is more of a nature lover's paradise than motor lover's dream. You will not be disturbed by jet skis or motor boats here. The lake is 200 acres and the larger part and deepest part, 34 feet deep part, is behind the island nearly a half mile away. Unfortunately these rentals did not venture there. I'm currently improving the driveway and turn around area.
