UPDATED OCTOBER 2017: All new linens, furniture, Northwoods decor, 40" flatscreen TV, outdoor firepit, gas grill, newly graded driveway & parking pad, upgraded Wi-Fi

Escape the hustle and enjoy the Northwoods as it is meant to be--with pristine, unspoiled vistas, peace, and quiet. We are located on a peninsula on 200 acre Wind Pudding Lake, with 450 feet of frontage and water on three sides. Wind Pudding Lake is rated as one of the top 10 clearest lakes in Wisconsin by the UW-Extension Program. Our house is situated just 60 feet from the shore and commands panoramic 180 degree views.

You will see no neighbors and have this virtually undeveloped lake for yourself! This lake has limited public access, no resorts, so you can enjoy the serenity. The lake is a beautiful combination of open water with 34 foot depths and areas of lily pads and sedge grasses that attracts a variety of birds and fish. The lake front is unspoiled and teeming with wildlife. There is good panfish fishing and occasional perch, bass, and even northern pike.

If you are looking to stay on a motor boat lake, this is not where you want to vacation. If, however, you wish to have a peaceful, relaxing vacation with no noise and complete privacy (there are no neighbors in sight), where you can swim, enjoy the eagles nesting on the nearby island, do a little canoeing, and fish, we can't be beat!

This is also an excellent home base to explore nearby Minocqua (10 minutes), Lake Tomahawk (10 minutes), Eagle River (15 minutes), and Rhinelander (20 minutes). There are thousands of great fishing and boating lakes in the area, along with hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and snowmobile trails.

Our home has 3 bedrooms:

1) Kids - twin over full bunkbed plus separate twin bed

2) Guest - queen bed

3) Master - queen bed

Our home has 2 full baths upstairs and a main level half bath. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including full size refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, and dishwasher. Cooking utensils and dishes are provided for your use. There is also an outdoor gas grill and firepit. The living room contains a leather sectional and leather recliner, with flatscreen TV, DVD player, and satellite TV. There is Wi-Fi internet and a wide selection of DVDs, books, and games.

NOTE: This property has recently changed ownership. As such, we will not be accepting reservations by credit card until the current listing expires. Please send us an inquiry for your options if you are interested in booking.

About Tonya

My husband and I are from Waunakee, WI, which is about 10 minutes North of Madison, WI. We were married in September 2009. I am a UW-Madison alum and my husband is a UW-Whitewater alum. We love to travel, discover new restaurants, and go camping & hiking. We have a very active 4-year old and another bundle of joy on the way.

Tonya purchased this house in 2017

Why Tonya chose Minocqua

The peace and solitude of this property is unmatched. If you want to get away from it all and enjoy nature and family, this is a great choice.

It's also only a short ride from Minocqua and many area attractions. Enjoy the best of both worlds!

Quiet, peaceful, tranquil.

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely property that is fairly isolated- no neighbors within sight. If you want solitude, this is the place for you! The house was very nice- clean and comfortable. I enjoyed it very much! My partner didn't care for the lake- it's true it's not much of a lake, but that didn't bother me. The driveway gets old after a few trips in & out, as it is quite rugged. But again, it's a small price to pay for the peace & quiet. There is poor internet & cell phone coverage- but that added to the tranquility. There is a small tv- again- I could live without it, but my partner wanted it just depends on what you're looking for! I recommend it to those wanting a restful place to unwind.

Beautiful Northwoods Lake Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cabin was very well equipped and you could tell it was well taken care of. We had a blast around the firepit and took the canoe out for a bit one day. We would definitely stay here again!

Amazing lake views!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with another couple, had a great trip at Whispers of the Wilderness. The more-than-180 degree views of the lake from the open living room/dining room were wonderful - something that the winter landscape provides with the bare trees. It was very private - you can't see either of the other two cabins from the house. We were able to ski all around the lake and the adjacent smaller lake - a little slippery as the wind had blown the snow leaving some bare ice. We saw 2 fox walking across the lake and the tracks of something a little larger - maybe a coyote - on the lake. We also enjoyed x-c skiing at Winter Park and an afternoon of snow shoeing at Fallison Lake about 1/2 hour north. The house was spotless and the beds comfy. The kitchen had all that we needed to make some good meals. Of note, although we didn't have any problems getting up the driveway with a 4-wheel drive car, I think it might be a little tough without it at times during the winter months - something to consider for winter rentals. At the house there was plenty of room to easily turn the car around in the well-plowed driveway. Thanks, Claire, for the lovely long weekend.
