About Susan

Troy is a commercial beekeeper in CA and works with 1800 hives. Susan is a retired children's pastor. After retiring she was "sucked" into the bee business and now works with Troy. They hope to retire in the next few years so they are able to spend more time in Maui as well as with family and helping with various ministries of their church. They live on 10 acres with their dog, Josie, and miniature donkeys. When they are in Maui they enjoy scuba-diving, hiking, visiting with new friends found at MKV and relaxing on our never-crowded beach.

Susan purchased this condo in 2005

Why Susan chose Maui

We began going to Maui in 1990 with our 2 children and always rented a friends condo at Maui Kaanapali Villas. When we decided to buy a condo not much was available at MKV so we looked around the area but came to the conclusion that there is nothing like MKV out there. We love the old Hawaiian feel as well as the quiet, spacious feel at the resort. It is low-density which we really appreciate and you just can't beat that sandy beach and view!

What makes this condo unique

There is not another resort like Maui Kaanapali Villas on Kaanapali Beach. It is low density, only 260 units on 12 acres, and has that old Hawaiian feel you just don't find anywhere else. The pools and beach are never crowded - no need to get out there at 6 am to save a lounge chair! And we have met nothing but nice people there! The boardwalk is great for walking north to a grocery store (about a mile) or south 1 mile to Whaler's Village. There is also a free trolley that picks up at our lobby and takes you around the Kaanapali area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our stay at the Bunch condo. We also enjoyed MKV. Our plans for next year are undecided. We may be going to the Far East at that time.

The Bunches are very nice people! We had a great time, and, of course, we love Maui the best!

A Month in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

After a month long stay, we can only wish our visit was longer!! Our experiences with the owner and the property itself were fantastic!! Communication was prompt, friendly, and informative, no question went unanswered. The condo was clean, inviting, more than well stocked with necessary living utensils, and had an absolutely beautiful location. With this being our sixth visit to Maui, another visit to this condo is

undoubtedly in our future.

Fantastic worry free destination!

I would without hesitation stay in Coconut 152 again. We have stayed in both the Dolphin building and the Coconut building on the property. Both have their benefits. We decided to stay further from the beach this time to save some $$. I was not disappointed at all. This property itself is in such a great location that none of the condos are poorly placed. However, Coconut 152 benefits greatly from an open lot across the street that has full frontal of the ocean. Without any straining, we could clearly see the ocean each day from the small lanai.

We generally stay in the more "resort-y" hotels when traveling because we enjoy amenities -- and like the glitz on vacation. Maui is an exception for us, in Hawaii in general actually, we tend to like the smaller older properties that are well maintained and perfectly placed. MKV falls in to that category for us and Coconut 152 is certainly in step with that feel.

Additionally, I would also say that interactions with Susan (the owner) were all prompt, professional and efficient. She definitely treats this as a business and in my opinion, that is a very good thing.

A hui hou, Maui.

Great owners!!!

My wife and I were scheduled for a 11 day stay. Construction on that building took longer that expected and none of the rooms would be available. Susan called and said the room would not be ready for our stay. Instead of just cancelling our room, She found another room for us at MKV and she even paid for the cost difference. My wife and I love to stay at MKV and will be back. Hope we can get that place when we are back.

Owner's Response: We so appreciate all of our guests who have been understanding about this difficult project. We do our very best to find a comparable or better room to move our guests to if needed. We hope all who come to Maui and stay in one of our units has an enjoyable stay and experiences the aloha spirit!

Location, beach,

  • 5 of 5

The location of this condo was everything we were looking for - close enough to the "action" at Whalers Village, but just far enough away to be peaceful and relaxing. We spent lots of time at the beautiful beach which was only a two minute walk - even got our best glimpse of the whales from there. The condo had plenty of room for the two of us and contained all the essentials PLUS lots of extras like beach towels, beach chairs, flashlights, movies, etc. We did have an issue with a backed up water line in the kitchen, but property maintenance arrived almost immediately after a call to the property manager (we were happy to enjoy a mai tai on the lanai while they fixed it). There is a view of the ocean from the lanai - many of the other condos would have an obstructed view, but because there is an empty lot across the street from Coconut 152, we were still able to see it.

Although the complex is a bit older, and maybe doesn't have all the luxuries of some of the bigger (and pricier) resorts, it was perfect for us. We only visited the pool once, which was nice, but for us it just couldn't compare to the beach. The Castaway Cave restaurant was close and was good for lunch. The gift store in the MKV lobby had plenty of nice stuff and my husband even found his first Hawaiian shirt there :)

The free trolley to Whaler's Village was great and we used it a couple times - it was nice to walk down there for supper and then catch the trolley home. We did have a car and could have drove, but the trolley was pretty convenient.

The condo was clean, quiet and close to everything we wanted. It was an excellent choice for our first visit to Maui.

My family (2 adults, 2 kids) stayed here for 3 nights and were very happy with the accommodations. The condo was well-stocked: many kitchen items, beach towels, beach umbrellas, just to name a few. Was happy with the distance to the beach - was great to just walk there on a whim because it was so close. The beach was never packed which was great for us. We really felt like we had the beach to ourselves which we enjoyed.

Check-in and check-out process was easy - had no issues with the staff or amenities. Everything worked out well. Just keep in mind that you do have a check-in fee and daily resort fees which are are not included in the quoted price of the condo. For 3 nights, the extra fees came out to less than $100, but if you are counting your pennies, that could be an unpleasant surprise.

The lanai also faces the street. Even though there is a decent hedge between the lanai and the street, we didn't feel comfortable having our boys out there playing. You do get some street noise but I didn't find it too annoying to not want to go back. But something to think about if you have children or are bothered by street noise.

The owners are helpful with information and are quick to respond to emails. Will definitely have this place filed under "Favorites" for our next vacation in Maui. Thanks for sharing your condo with us.

Owner's Response: It is always a joy to hear how a guest enjoyed our home in paradise! We loved bringing our children to Maui Kaanapali Villas and now our grandchildren come and love being there also! And we agree, the beach is so close it is easy to walk down and enjoy the beach as well as not a lot of people around you! We hope all our guests are able to return some day!

Warm, comfortable, clean and easy!

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't be happier with our stay at MKV! We chose it for our honeymoon, and it was magical. Everything was so easy, from check-in, to the amenities, to the beach chairs and umbrella that were lifesavers! Even the board games in the closet -- such a homey touch that we just loved.

This is the best kept secret on the island, if you ask me. Just a few hundred yards down the beach, people are paying WAY more to stay in swanky but sterile resorts. We felt so at home and comfortable here in this lovely condo. The best part of our trip may have been sitting on the patio and feeding the gorgeous birds, who literally ate from our hands. I absolutely recommend staying here! We'll be back for sure.
