About David Greenfield
I guess it might be said to be a bit of a dreamer. I first had the idea of a mountain vacation home when I was a student in my early 20's. After I got married I began the task of making my dream a reality (sometimes pushing my wife in the process!) We discovered Ludlow and Okemo Mountain and fell in love with the area. The idea to create this home was to provide place to share with our children and to have a place together and spend quality time together. My kids have loved this place since they were infants and you might see some reminders around the house when you come.
David Greenfield purchased this House in 1996
Why David Greenfield chose Ludlow
We began to look for mountain-view properties in the Green Mountains of VT and in the Berkshires in MA. We discovered the Ludlow, VT area and Okemo Mountain when on a camping trip in nearby College State Park and feel in love with the area. We began to narrow our search and finally purchased 11 wooded aces with views in the early 1990's and a few years later we began to plan the design of our new home. It was completed in 1996 and we have been sharing with friends, family and renters ever since. We loved the small-town feel and the fact that it was NOT an overbuilt resort area and had that small-town feeling; this, in combination with the skiing, lakes, fishing, restaurants, cycling (I'm an avid cyclist), and natural beauty made it ideal for us.
What makes this House unique
We are very close to town, but as soon as you come down the long driveway you are surrounded by evergreens and birch trees in a completely private setting without any views of other houses. The only things you see are the mountain views. I suppose the best features for us have always been the combination of simple beauty and great skiing , but truth be told I like it better up there in the Spring, Summer and Fall... when there is so much to do. You can go fishing at nearby Echo lake, where they have a state park beach, play ground, boat rentals, and a food concession or hike to Buttermilk Falls, or take a drive to Rutland, (about 20 miles away) for a movie. What is most fun is to stay home and sit in the hot tub overlooking the hills and relax (which sometimes is not easy if the kids are around!)

Great long weekend
This was a great place for us to stay for a skiing over MLK long weekend. We had 3 families stay and there was plenty of room for all of us. About a 15 minute drive to Okemo so it's a great location. The open concept living room/kitchen/dining areas was great for gathering to watch football games. The kitchen had everything we needed for supplies. The hot tub is huge and loved by the kids. The pool table is a great add for the kids as well. David is very responsive and easy to communicate with. Great place!
We have stayed at this house now four times and it just seems to get nicer every time we visit. Highlights are great view, lots of space, terrific fire place with plenty of wood, enhancements everywhere and easy ride to Okemo. Highest recommendation. Thank you!
Perfect Ski Weekend Property
Our group had a great time staying here over a long weekend. House is secluded yet close enough to Okemo and Ludlow village. Great views and big backyard. All the bedrooms, especially the master, were good sizes.
Hot tub, fireplace, pool table, speaker system and hot water system were all great features that made our stay extra enjoyable. XL flat screen TV was also a plus since the Olympics were on during our stay.
It snowed overnight and someone came to plow the driveway in the morning without needing to request it.
Would love to come back someday. Thanks David!
Very nice house with some issues
Our family had a fun time in this house with a beautiful view, but there were some problems.
*there was an elaborate TV system with 2 very large TVs but they didn't work all. The Satellite Dish was broken and the Cable wasn't working so we couldn't use either TV at all for any purpose, which was a bummer on a winter ski trip. The owner asked us to call the TV company which we did and spent a long time with them on the phone but to no avail.
*we were excited to make fires but every time we made one, despite following all of the owner's instructions, the entire house became unpleasantly and extremely smokey. So much so that we quit making fires, also disappointing during a winter ski trip. The owner had a maintenance guy come check out the fire issue on our last day but the maintenance guy didn't know what the problem was.
*the hot tub was great!
*view was wonderful
*the space in the house worked well--plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms
*kitchen was small and extremely cluttered, hard to work in. Drawers and closets around the house were also extremely cluttered and it was difficult for us to find space to use.
*the heat went off when we were out because of the complicated system it uses. When we came home to a freezing house and contacted the owner, he was very responsive and was able to turn it back on remotely, but it took a long time to heat up, and it was very cold inside.
Beautiful Property, Convenient Location, Great for Families
This house has stunning views, a great layout and is conveniently located for a ski weekend at Okemo. The owner is very nice and responded immediately to questions that came up during our stay.
Had a great time at David's lodge. Great views; even had some fun building and sliding down a sledding run in the backyard! The master bedroom is beautiful and enormous; I felt a bit guilty taking the room over the other 4 couple who joined us! Perfect for 5 couples; might be tight for more than that.
Had some issues with the hot tub, but David was very responsive. Everyone in our group had a good time and said they would come back.
