Love sharing our home with families and groups of friends. We have had visitors from across the globe and have loved meeting all them and sharing our home.
We take great pride in offering the best Adirondack experience we can offer.
Kathie H. Smith purchased this house in 1999
In our opinion, Lake Placid is HEAVEN ON EARTH. It offers a 4 season location with breathtaking beauty. Enjoy all of the Olympic venues plus tobogganing, sledding, rock climbing, photography, hiking, swimming, fishing, tubing, golfing, tennis. The list goes on.
We are 5 minutes to town and restaurants. 25 minutes to Whiteface Mountain. The views of Whiteface Mountain and the High Peaks are incredible. No matter what the weather or season...it doesn't get any better or more serene a setting and location. Play games at the game table, relax with friends and family in front of the fireplaces, enjoy the screened porch facing the lake...sit on the dock with your favorite book.....The kitchen is fully equipped with all the amenities you will need. There is an extra bar area to set up a buffet for your guests...The sunroom (4 season) is a place to spend time alone with lots of light.

Our annual winter family vacation this year took us to Lake Placid, as we have decided to keep changing mountains for the benefit of different experiences. The town of Lake Placid is the most beautiful and entertaining so far! The house at Camp Bearberry is everything you would want for your overall vacation experience, and the location is ideal! The prior reviews just about include all there is to say. The house is absolutely charming, well stocked, and ideal for one or more families. We cooked, snuggled, played games, and relaxed at Camp Bearberry. The window views are amazing; they put you in the best of moods. I look forward to returning, whether it be winter or summer. Kathie has presented this home in a very special way, with every nook filled with charm and nostalgia. Gary is there to greet you and make sure that you have everything you need. He will even give you a brief history of the original home which is quite interesting. So far, our third annual ski vacation this year, has been the best experience so far. You will absolutely love it!
We had the pleasure of staying a week at the very charming and comfortable Camp Bearberry. The house is fully equipped and decorated tastefully with antiques and collectibles. Every bedroom has its own en suite, which is a rare find. There were twelve of us for most of the week and even up to fourteen and we never felt crowded.
The outside amenities would be hard to match. There is a huge dock with plenty of furniture. It faces Whiteface Mountain and the Adirondacks. Quite frankly, it was difficult to leave this beautiful property to sight see. However, we did! There is a lot to do in this area and town is a five minute drive. Grocery stores and anything you may need is close by.
There is the option to rent their boat. We did and it was worth it.
Kathie and Gary, the owners are wonderful to work with. They are responsive and lovely people.
Hopefully, we will back someday for another family reunion.
We picked camp Bearberry for our family vacation inclusive of our four grandchildren. We could not have been happier with our selection and both the accommodation's and setting. Kathie and Gary (the owners) were excellent host, providing for our every need and delivering the house at a level that exceeded our expectations.
The large house was both comfortable and intimate. everything that we needed was right at hand. We would definitely return, perhaps for years to come as our family continues to grow as we feel we have found the perfect vacation spot for all.
Camp Bearberry is the ideal location for a family vacation or reunion. Not only is the property described accurately on the rental site, but it has even more to offer than we imagined. The house was extremely clean and well maintained and the large wrap around porch over looking the lake and mountains was a constant place of gathering for all of us. We also rented the pontoon boat and the owner was there to greet us and show us the the nuances of the boat. The large dock offered us plenty of room to enjoy morning coffee or evening cocktails while sharing the magnificent view or watching grandchildren swim or kayak (we brought our own.) The owners are very organized and efficient and provided accurate information and service. They are local and give great attention to detail. My family would love to return to Camp Bearberry for another reunion and hopefully that will happen.
We went to Camp Bearberry this past New Years with 3 families. We had 8 teenagers (17-18 yrs. old) and 4 parents. The house had plenty of room for all of us. Everyone was amazed with the home. It has all the amenities you could want. Kitchen is very well stocked with every type of pot, pan or tool you could need. Each of the bedrooms is tastefully decorated with Adirondack style furnishing. The highlight of the décor are the many incredible landscape paintings adoring the walls of the camp, which were painted by the homeowner, Kathie. Each of the bedrooms its own unique style. Think of Camp Bearberry as a beautiful Inn, where you rent out every room in the Inn. The two working fireplaces were amazing. We lit them every night for dinner and while relaxing in the family room. We didn't even bother going out for dinner, once a back in the camp we couldn't imagine a better place to be. There’s plenty of firewood and a big cart to transport the wood into the house. This camp has nothing lacking from it. Additionally, Kathie is accommodating and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this property to any family or group looking for a great Adirondack vacation. Skiing at Whiteface was good and coming back home to camp Bearberry was the topping on the cake. We all can't wait to go back again!
We stayed at Camp Bearberry early November 2014. Camp Bearberry is on a picturesque part of Lake Placid looking at the sun rise across the lake and Whiteface Mountain. Camp Bearberry is decorated in true Adirondack style with all the amenities one could wish for. The living room and it's roaring fire is a perfect setting to sip wine, eat cheese and take in the beautiful relaxing setting. Can't wait to return. We highly recommend a stay at Camp Bearberry.
