Two Thumbs Up (and One Tail Wag)!

Review Submitted: August 3, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009

Within minutes of arriving, my husband and I felt right at home--sitting on

the deck feeling the lake breeze, we heard wingbeats overhead--it was an

eagle heading to the lake (I'm not kidding)! We've rented a lot of cottages in

the past, and this one not only met our basic requirements of being clean,

comfortable, and quiet, this one was also set in a beautiful spot, close to

plenty of amazing things to see and do. And, the owners couldn't have been

more accommodating and thoughtful. Our dog even felt welcome and happy-

-it was a relaxing and enjoyable week all aroun

Great time in Michigan

Great place. Located near a bunch of fun stuff to do. Secluded area without much traffic and great view of the lake.

Spent most of our time at watervale beach, relatively secluded and uncrowded. Had a bonfire out on the beach one night which was great fu

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This place exceeded expectations! This is a perfect getaway; secluded on 10 acres across from Upper Herring Lake. The home itself is immaculate and practically everything you can think of is at your fingertips. Wonderful for quiet mornings watching birds on the deck while sipping coffee and being wowed by the amazing star show at night. We kayaked the lake twice and continued on Herring Creek for an extended trip seeing herons and a couple of eagles. We biked the Betsie Trail over to Beulah on beautiful Crystal Lake for some swimming and the charming Cherry Hut. We took a day trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes, biking the Heritage Trail and swimming in the (and I'm not kidding) turquoise waters of Lake Michigan near Glen Lake. Frankfort itself is charming, nice variety of restaurants; we enjoyed Dinghy's, Bayview Grille, Fusion (sushi!), Stormcloud Brewing (great local microbrews) and the many ice cream shops on Main Street. Don't forget the Lighthouse Café in Elberta across Betsie Bay. We picked large, sweet blueberries at the self serve! patch about a mile down the road. Sunsets on Frankfort Beach were awesome. You can stay until the sun drops completely below the horizon and till have enough time to drive back to Upper Herring before the skies go black and the shooting star show starts. Don't forget other local attractions such as Green Point Dunes, Inspiration Point near Arcadia & Gravity Hill (you have to do it!) All in all, this was a perfect getaway week for the family; we plan on returning. Well done, Chris & Annabelle!

Fantastic Getaway on Upper Herring Lake

  • 5 of 5

I gave this rental my highest rating because it deserves it. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay complete and enjoyable. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a wonderful basket and personalized note. The house was amazingly clean and completely outfitted with everything that you would need to make your stay perfect. We had great evenings on the porch watching the sunset as well as roasting marshmallows at the fire pit. Although we did not use the canoes or kayaks, they were readily available and in good shape. Our dog was in heaven with the surrounding property and the creek. We walked the trails and listened to the crickets at night. I would not suggest this place for anyone with physical disabilities only because there are stairs that must be used to gain access to the main living room. I am not sure about families with very young children.. I guess if you were to watch them at all times that would be okay but the porch which surrounds 3/4 of the house is not very kid friendly. The house was neat, extremely clean and very comfortable. We will be returning next year for sure. Thank you Chris and Annabelle!

Beautiful Area, Fantastic place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at this beautiful place. The hope itself is well cared for and is great for a couple like us or a family. There are many choices for places to eat. We had a great cherry pie from the Cherry Hut, and we got fresh asparagus at a farm on M-22. The weather cooperated and I was able to Kayak, Bicycle the Betsie River Trail, Hike on the Dunes and Swim in my beloved Lake Michigan. We highly recommend the rental and would definitely be happy to stay there again.

Very Nice Home!

  • 5 of 5

This home was very clean and well furnished. Just a few miles from Lake Michigan and close to great restaurants, this was a great place to stay. The view from deck is lovely, has comfortable beds, and a great grill. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise. Highly recommended and would definitely rent this one again!

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

This home was truly our "home away from home" during the week we stayed there. We felt right at home and very comfortable the minute we walked in the door. The home is very meticulously maintained and very clean. The owners have literally thought of everything that one would need. We appreciated all of the information about the area presented by the owners in binders, notes, welcome packet, and brochures at the home. We tried to go to as many of the recommended places as we could. It also was nice to be so close to downtown Frankfort and Lake Michigan! We stayed busy during the day sightseeing, enjoying Lake Michigan, Chrystal Lake, going to the Alpaca Boutique, walking around Betsie Lake and thru downtown Frankfort, shopping and dining in Frankfort, Arcadia, Elberta, and Glen Arbor. Pure Michigan at its finest! In the evening when we would normally be watching TV at home or on our phones, laptops, etc we found ourselves playing scrabble, playing cards, sitting on the beautiful wrap around deck enjoying the sunset. A very busy week (just because there is so much to see and do) but also a very relaxing week due in large part to the beautiful home of Chris and Anabelle! We can't wait to enjoy their home again in the future!! Thank you again Chris and Anabelle!!
