Welcome to the Grand View Retreat Chalet overlooking a spectacular view of Kachemak Bay, Cooks Inlet, Dixon Glacier, Portlock Glacier, Grewingk Glacier, and Homer Spit.
This 5,200 sq. ft. luxurious chalet has 5 bedrooms with attached baths, and a cozy loft bedroom with trundle beds. It is very private and is tastefully decorated, has a large gourmet kitchen, a 60” big screen TV, I pod dock, barbeque grill, 4 decks, 2 Jacuzzi tubs and too much more to list. With two very large living rooms and a gigantic loft, all with spectacular views, it is perfect for special occasions such as family reunions.
Most visitors are taken aback from the breathtaking view of the Alaskan Mountains and nearby glaciers, surrounding Ketchmak Bay. At night you can enjoy the beautiful spectacle of light emanating from the nearby Famous Homer Spit.
The Chalet is located 9 miles from town, but is close to nearby shopping, wine tasting, fine dining, art galleries and museums. Animal enthusiasts will enjoy the safe view of nearby Alaskan wildlife that includes bears, otters, moose, eagles, birds, hares, porcupines and other animals indigenous to the area.
Seafood and fishing lovers will have their fill of Alaskan Halibut, varieties of salmon, rock fish, and clams. Overall this property will allow you to enjoy the awe-inspiring beauty of Alaska with all the comforts of home. Several moose live in the woods surrounding the house and it is very common to see more than one moose from the balcony. They really love the clover right under the balcony.
I promise you just one thing. When it is time to go home, you will not want to leave. But then, you can always come again next year.
Additional amenities: satellite TV, assortment of DVDs and board games, off street parking for 10 vehicles.
all was very good. The house was nice and well equipped. I think the grill is old, more than it was dirty.
But everything else was fine, worked well and we enjoyed it.The views are tremendous.
From the moment my entire family - my children and grandchildren- walked up the stairs and marveled in the spectacular view, we had a delightful time. The grandkids loved to play in the upper level overlooking the main floor. And we all spend many hours on the deck enjoying the quiet and views of the bay and the mountains and glaciers beyond, the sunsets - and yes moose strolled by one evening to entertain us.
The two master suites and the lower level bedroom worked wonderfully for the three couples, plus all the grandkids had plenty of space as well.
The kitchen and dining area were perfect for a large group- for eating breakfast together, a snack, or playing cards. The owners have done a fantastic job designing and outfitting this home. it has it all. Loved it!!!
This property is amazing! You can easily view 5 separate glacial fields from the main balcony and the views of Katchemak Bay just can't be beat! The photos are accurate depictions of the property including nightly visits from 2 female moose including one with calf. We stayed here with two other couples (6 total) and the layout of the home easily afforded everyone their own space. The only negative comment we have is that the water is from underground wells and the smell as a result in the bathrooms was pretty overpowering especially in the MB downstairs. The owners have installed a water filtration system in the refrigerator so drinking tasty drinking water isn't a problem, just the stench in the bathrooms from the well water in the toilets and faucets. Upon reflection we probably should have contacted the owner but in the grand scheme of things the well water stench was a non-issue given the location of this beautiful property and the space and furnishings provided by the owners. They really have tried to provide a rental property that meets all the needs one could ask for while on vacation. This property is a real gem and the owners were very easy to work with. We would very much rent this property again if we decide to return to Homer, Alaska as we can't say enough about what a great time was enjoyed by all in this very beautiful home on a very scenic piece of property just outside Homer.
This home is as advertised - the views are spectacular! We never saw a moose from the house - but the ever changing views of the mountains, bay and glaciers are stunning.
The home was equipped better than we could have imagined - everything you could need in the kitchen including some essentials like dishwasher soap, paper towels, sugar, etc. There were even two coffee makers and a gas grill.
The only negatives are that the finishes in the bathrooms are budget (laminate counters, laminate flooring) and some of the furniture is showing its wear. You can see the bathrooms in the photos- and how much time are you really in there?
We also had a problem getting the wi-fi to work on Apple products. We didn't call the owners - it may have been a quick fix but we didn't bother.
That being said - we would definitely recommend the house to anyone with a large group. We only spent 5 nights in Homer - wish it could have been longer - hope to come back again!
Large group of us (12) spent two nights here prior to a longer stay at Cooper's Landing. House is great, beautiful view, well equip'd. Very quiet area, remote, and relaxing. As advertised, a bit outside of Homer, and there was road construction in process so the trip in/out of town was a bit of a problem, but not bad. Would have loved to stay longer, but we only had two nights.
This house exceeded all expectations, as did the setting and town of Homer. The appointments to the home were so tasteful, and of highest condition/quality. We were not lacking in any comforts. While there we had one minor plumbing issue- and it was taken care of by the owner within a few hours. More responsive than what we'd get at home! We had the MOST relaxing, peaceful, magnificent time ever. Worth it!!!!
The views, the house, the moose are just breathtaking. We have been to Homer 3 times and highly recommend staying in town or just out of town (like this house) instead of on the spit. The spit is windy and about 10 degrees colder. We were warm and cozy with a beautiful view of the glacier field. We loved staying here. It is beautiful and very comfortable. We had four families staying under the roof with plenty of room and space to play (upstairs play room/entertainment room was great for giving kids space while adults ate/cooked/conversed downstairs. The mama moose and two babies every day was a treat. The yard is still big enough to play football and baseball on the lawn. We recommend getting a kite to fly because the wind is great. Hope to make it back next summer and stay here again.
