I have to first say this review is way too late in coming and I am so sorry for the delay! I just revisited VRBO today to look for this house again and realized I should have written a review long before now.
A few years ago our son in law was deployed to Afghanistan thankfully he was lucky enough to return home to us and serve a second tour last year. He is now preparing for a third tour next year. While he was deployed during his first tour we told him when he got back we would take him anywhere he wanted to go for a little relaxation with the family when he got home. This gave him something to look forward to. He's a wonderful young man and so deserved a vacation when he returned home and we wanted to do something just for him, all he asked for was some cold beers and to do some fishing. So we thought lake Champlain, is the place to visit. Rob and Robert were unbelievably accommodating to our family even offering us to tag on a couple extra days at the end of the week since they had nobody arriving the following week. It was fantastic. When we arrived at the house, we felt so welcomed, a couple bottles of wine and some goodies were on the table for us and the house was so comfortable it was like being at home.
The house was fully equipped with everything you could think of or possibly ask for right down to all the baking equipment to make Dan's favorite key lime pie. We spent a week there, drinking, eating, lighting the fire pit, fishing, laughing and generally relaxing and making happy family memories. The beds were so comfortable, the house was impeccably clean well furnished and inviting!!! The reason I was prompted to write this is our kids are coming home for a visit to see us here in NJ for two weeks and Dan has requested if we can revisit Vermont and this house for a few days, he had such a great time. I would highly recommend to anyone who is thinking of visiting lake Champlain to book this home. For many many years we have renting vacation homes all over the world and this one is in our Top 3 for location comfort and a good time. Plus the owners while absent where wonderfully accommodating!
Thank you Rob and Robert, I will be in touch with you soon to book another week with you.
The Douglass Family.
Our family recently enjoyed a week at this beautiful home. The house was spotless and decorated great. The house was much larger than it appeared in the photos. The location is private and beautiful. We enjoyed touring Vermont, but our favorite day trip was a quick trip into Canada visiting the apple winery, cheese shop and pub. Thank you Robert & Bob for the great recommendations and for sharing your beautiful home!
Had a great time during our stay, was just to short. The house was wonderful. The area the house was in was perfect. I have stayed in the area every year for the past 9 years and this was the best of all. There is normally one or two things to complain about but not this trip. The house was was big enough for the nine of us, and if you wanted to you could always find a quiet spot to just sit and relax. My boys loved the downstairs room, and we had many ping pong tournaments. The fishing right of the yard was fantastic. My niece who is 12 and never fished before caught 26 fish in less than two hours right off the yard. She is now a fishing girl for life.
We brought our boat and after a couple days of wind got the boat going and the fishing on that part of the lake is the best I ever had. We caught hundreds of fish with some monsters. My boy caught a 6 plus largemouth and less than an hour later caught a 5 plus smallmouth and later a 46 inch pike.
Thank you Robert and Rob for a great trip. It was a time I will remember for the rest of my life. A great place to be with the ones you love.
We just got home from a week at house. The area was beautiful - the views of the lake and mountains right from the deck are extremely relaxing (even with 5 kids running around).
The property was perfect for our large group. We had 6 adults and 5 kids ranging from 2-8 years old. The lawn was huge which was perfect for cornhole games, wiffle ball, wagon rides, etc. The kids enjoyed arts and crafts on the deck and the adults enjoyed the fire pit at night for beers and late night conversation!
We also had a water issue during our stay. Robert was very prompt in helping us and we really appreciated all of his efforts in fixing our shower situation!
The beach area was another small issue that was NOT something the properties owners could really control. I just think it's fair to mention that if you have young kids, you really need to be careful by the water. The water level was low, so the shore area is very rocky and dangerous for little ones without careful supervision. Once we taught our kids how to navigate around the rocks, they did okay. This is certainly not a reason to stay away from this house...just bring water shoes for the kiddies and adults!!
Overall, we all agreed that we would happily rent from Robert again. The house met all of our vacation needs and we really loved being on Lake Champlain!
Our family rented this property in June 2011. We were a group of 7 adults and two border collies and we found the house to be very clean, spacious and accommodating. The kitchen had two refrigerators, wonderful appliances and plenty of space for all of us to work in. There were plenty of clean linens and towels and a nice laundry room off the kitchen. We shared several family meals in the dining room which seated all of us very comfortably with beautiful views of the lake.
The property is private, gorgeous, peaceful and relaxing. The views of the lake and mountains beyond are just breathtaking! The scenery of the lake was ever changing with the weather. We had calm sunny days where the lake was like glass and cloudy windy days where the lake had big waves! We had bonfires in the fire pit almost every night (don’t forget your s’mores fixins) and enjoyed the large deck for lunch and dinner barbecues. We brought a croquet set and enjoyed playing croquet on the front lawn and also enjoyed some “competitive” ping pong matches in the basement. The dogs enjoyed long morning walks by the neighborhood farms, running free on the property, chasing their tennis ball and swimming in the lake - spending most of their time outside.
We had one minor issue with the water and the owner, Robert, was very quick to address the issue and couldn’t have been friendlier! He continued to communicate with us and made sure that the water issue was fixed as soon as possible. He was a pleasure to deal with!
One of the most exciting things about the property was its proximity to Canada - the second to last house before the border! We enjoyed a day trip to Montreal and also a nice relaxing ride through wine country which was just a short trip over the border. We also enjoyed a ride through the Lake Champlain Islands, visiting antique and gift shops, the nut-free chocolate factory, Saint Anne’s Shrine, a winery and pick your own strawberry farm. We took an evening trip to Burlington to walk around Church Street and have dinner – it is a beautiful city. There is a lot to do in this area and there were plenty of maps and brochures in the house detailing all of the activities in the area.
Everyone in our group enjoyed the trip and we all want to thank the owners for being so friendly, flexible and accommodating and sharing your wonderful house and property with our family and especially our pups!! We highly recommend this place!
This place is gorgeous. The house has been done up very tastefully, and the location (on the US Canada border) is just perfect.

3. Kayak and row boats available for use
4. Fire pit and fire wood provided for a peaceful and beautiful bonfire
