Greg and Michelle Bowman , NYC My family and I spent nearly two weeks here. We had very high expectations for our lifelong dream of Costa Rica. Every one was met. Beautiful home. Gracious hosts. Great views. Incredible wildlife. Absolutely refreshing. 05/31/09
Gail Weinheimer , Woodacre, California Casa Pura Paz is well named. The home is lovely, comfortable and secluded, and even more beautiful than it appears in the pictures. We enjoyed our morning coffee and afternoon snacks on the deck with the monkeys and birds and butterflies. We will definitely return to this paradise. 05/12/09

We Love to fish, dive, snorkel, and just look at the beautiful coast line of this lovely country that we now live in. We came to Costa Rica on this beautiful Yacht and what a trip it was. You will never get tired of all the animals on the land or the fish, dolphan, turtles, whales, etc that you see off the boat.
Don Segal purchased this house in 2005
This property is one of the most unique properties that you will ever see, privacy, safety, wildlife, that is only offered in a park like setting. All you see is rain forest jungle and beautiful blue Pacific ocean.
WOW!!!! YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT!!!!
The pictures of the mansion are exactly what this place looks like, but the view is even better!
There is almost no need to go to Manuel Antonio State Park as it is literally here! We saw 3 kinds of monkeys, sloths, humming birds, toucans and macaws. The horses that the owners have are also grazing around and are very friendly.
The beach is a bit of a hike, but good exercise. Bring what you need for a few hours. Bring swim shoes as there are some rocks. We only saw about 6 other people while we were down there. So you practically have it to yourselves!
The local restaurants are very good. We had a car while we were there so it was easy to get around. We made our own breakfast, lunches and a few dinners ourselves. Not a gourmet kitchen but has enough to make meals. Sitting on the deck eating dinner is as good as a restaurant view.
We would love to come back!!!
If you like a rustic trip that you really will have fun make sure to book a trip with Jose to go to the Mangroves and a private Island. This was the highlight of our trip.
Also get a massage on the observation deck if you can. Delightful!
Finally, Kim and Ken are great hosts, very warm and friendly. They can help you out with whatever you need.
My husband and I stayed here Dec 10-17, which is the end of rainy season and the week before peak season. It was a great time of year to visit as we were able to book all our excursions last minute and nothing was crowded. We really enjoyed our time at the house and Ken and Kim were very hospitable, checking in every day to make sure we had what we needed.
- The back porch! We loved sitting out there on the rocking chairs and watching the wildlife and the ocean. The top level deck was fun for ping pong/pool, yoga, or just watching the monkeys come by every day for bananas.
- The small pool was great to cool off in.
- The master bedroom bed was comfy and having air conditioning meant we could sleep easily . The rest of the time we enjoyed the open air house. Because there were no screens, I was worried about mosquitos but there were none at the house!
- The house had mostly everything that you need - full kitchen, TV/DVD player for rainy nights, house phone, 2 bathrooms (plus one at the top level), daily housekeeping. Ken even loaned us a flashlight when we forgot ours for the dark walks to dinner.
- Ken and Kim recommended MidWorld (ATV tour), scheduled a GREAT guide for the national park, and booked a massage at the house- one of the best I've had. All were AWESOME!
Things to consider:
- We did not rent a car based on Ken's recommendation not to saying that taxis go by the house all the time. Every day, we walked to either lunch or dinner and only 1 time did we see a taxi drive by us on the walk. I'm guessing this is the time of year we were there, but something to consider in the low season. The closest restaurants are only a sweaty 1/2 mile away, but (according to my Fitbit) the equivalent of walking up 25 flights of stairs so not ok for someone with mobility issues or very young kids. We took a taxi back from dinner one night because it was pouring and it was $8 for the 1/2 mile drive. Having said that, not sure we would have enjoyed renting a car as it would have been difficult to find parking at places.
- Similarly, the hike down to the beach was also fairly intense...no running back up to the house for a cocktail. ;) Also, the rocky beach is only usable during low tide. So we only visited our beach once.
- Extra things to bring besides a flashlight: a soft-sided cooler for beach days, ziploc bags for leftovers as their is no tupperware in the kitchen, binoculars for wildlife, reusable water bottle.
We spent one week in Manuel Antonio and stayed at the Pura Paz. It truly was the vacation of a life time. It was my wife, three sons age 11, 9, and 7, and myself. We had been to Manuel Antonio 14 years earlier and declared it our favorite area in Costa Rica. We returned and had an even better time. The house itself was perfect. You are cut right into the rain forest and it makes for an unbelievable setting. The architecture and design of the house are very impressive and the flow of the 5 floors is really cool. Very spacious, clean, and efficient. A perfect vacation home. The bed rooms are very large, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is nicely equipped. The high lights of the property for us were first the troops of monkeys that visited us every morning. This was almost surreal for our family and we truly enjoyed the 1/2 hour or so early every morning with these creatures. White faced monkeys and small squirrel monkeys come to the decks to socialize and eat. They were great. Howler Monkeys were very close by and easily visualized in the trees on 2 mornings. We saw 3 different sloths on the property, 2 from the deck, one out near the road, all were beautiful to see in nature. The second highlight was the private beach that is easily accessible on foot. You hike down through the rain forest which is a beautiful walk through a secluded trail and end up on the beach. A beautiful rocky beach that on most days we had to our own, with no one else in sight. There is a small hotel that also has access, so occasionally we would have a few people to share the beach. It has calm warm waters and is truly perfect for families to swim. I would recommend water shoes or water sandals to make entrance into the water easier on the feet. The hike back up is also cool, and it is a good workout. We loved the hike both ways and did it twice a day. We took numerous excursions such as zip lining, mangrove tours, dinner at the Quepos marina, and others. All were perfect for us. Jose is in charge of house repairs and keeps the place in perfect shape. He also does his own tour through the mangroves and to the Island of Damas where he has family members living and running a farm. Ken and Kim are wonderful people and great hosts. They make you feel at home in there house. Kim does a great horse tour on the Beach that my kids loved and are still talking about. This is a fantastic house with great people. I can't wait to return. Mike and Teri.
Dear Ken and Kim, thank you so much for allowing us into your home, Casa Pura Paz is named perfectly. These 5 days Betsy and I spent with you were absolutely the most relaxing least stressful days for us in year's. For anyone considering visiting the Manuel Antonio area, I would strongly recommend
Pura Paz! Every aspect of my visit exceeded expectations. The house was exactly as it looked online, except it looks 10 times better in person. You can be as active as you want to be or just stare at the view off the deck all day. The national park is a great outing, but you will see all the wildlife right off the porch! The scenery of the surrounding area is nothing short of spectacular, there are too many outstanding restaurants to name and all of them are minutes from the house. One of the many highlights of our visit was the day trip with Jose, having a casual lunch on his farm provided a real glimpse into the culture of Costa Rica. We will be repeat visitors!
Thank you again.
My husband and I came here with our sons (19 and 14) and my 70 year old father. We all left with a very favorable impression of this area of Costa Rica, its people, and a true fondness for the owners (Kim and Ken), their house manager (José), and housekeeper (Shirley sp.?).
The house is truly amazing, with a very comfortable layout, incredible view, and access to all the wildlife, activities, and tranquility one could hope for. Ken and Kim walked a beautiful line between being accessible and helpful when needed, while respecting our privacy and letting us enjoy our family time together. I only wish that we would have had more time to visit with these truly generous and kind people.
As many have mentioned before, José's tour is incredible, and provided a great deal of entertainment for all of us. We also spent a day on the Nelsons' beautiful boat, where we caught (and released) beautiful sailfish and dined on Giovanni's wonderful cooking. The entire crew was professional, kind, and made the day aboard another highlight of our stay.
We hope to come stay in this beautiful home again! In my opinion, you could not find a better place to stay while in CR.
Being on a 60ft yacht and staying at this beautiful home was the most exciting time for us! The yacht is the Boomerang which was big and comfortable and parked in the beautiful Marina Pez Vela! The chef Giovanni and crew made sure we had a very special trip. The home was big and comfortable and the view was so big and beautiful you felt like you could reach out and touch it! All day you could hear the ocean while relaxing and feeding the monkeys! We also loved the 10 minute walk to the secluded beach through a peaceful forest. Toucans, two types of sloths, Macaws, horses, 3 kinds of monkeys.... Just a real paradise! Ken was so helpful with arranging our tours and giving us local knowledge which took all the stress out. Housekeeping was so helpful we were just plain spoiled.
We will tell all our family and friends to choose this safe well run and perfectly situated home in the trees! Thank you for a trip we will never forget!
