Beechwood is a charming 4-bed/3-bath home nestled on over two acres overlooking Denning Brook. The Denning Brook area is a feeding and nesting ground for many native animals and birds. Beaver and deer are frequent visitors as well as bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, woodpeckers and hundreds of songbirds.
Upon entering the home, you are greeted by an open floor plan with a vaulted hardwood ceiling. Twin French doors immediately draw you toward the large deck overlooking Denning Brook and it’s abundant wildlife. The dining area and living room, with skylights, create a comfortable space for the whole family to gather. Attached is a fully equipped kitchen with breakfast table.
The downstairs master suite with a queen bed has a private bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. A second downstairs bedroom features a double bed and full bath along with a washer/dryer. Upstairs, a second “master” bedroom with queen bed, a bedroom with two twin beds, and a full bath round out the floor plan. A delightful deck overflowing with flowers, a new gas grill and outside seating is the ideal location to watch birds as the sun sets over Denning Brook. The large private lawn is perfect for lawn games or reading.

About Jennifer Wales
About Mountain Sea Properties: Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993. Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline. In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal. Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services. Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

What a gem of a place and of a property manager!
We were so lucky to come across Mountain Sea Properties and the property Beechwood. We were out of electricity (for days!) and Jen had Beechwood open for our use. We were able to move in, get warm, catch up on laundry, cook meals, and finally feel at home, even though it was a home away from home. What a respite! The house was super clean, beds made, and towels laid out! Everything was there you could ever need including local guide sheets/maps, dishes, games, and books. The location on the island is perfect- 15 min from the bustle of Bar Harbor and 10 min from the quaint South West Harbor. The House was super cozy, yet roomy enough for our family, and could have easily accommodated more. Jen was amazing to get us in on such a strange schedule and was so amenable, warm, and the perfect host- there when needed, but left us alone when we were doing our own thing. She even came by to check on the hot water heater right before bedtime when we had troubles getting hot showers (a minor problem because of the generator use). All was fixed in no time! I wish we could have been able to stay for longer, and extend the staycation to enjoy all of which Mountain Sea Properties has to offer, so many extras available like- guided hikes, grocery delivery, and full luxe packages! Jen is so organized and useful, a true gem of the island. We were thrilled to utilize Mountain Sea Properties and hope to take advantage of their incredible properties again in the future. We highly recommend them without hesitation!
Indeed Mount Desert Island experienced an unusual wind storm that left some without power for an extended period. We were more than happy to help out in any way that we could and were able to move this local family with young kids into the Beechwood home until their home was safe and comfortable to move back into.
Our philosophy is that a business is not just a means to support one's own family, but it's an opportunity (I would go so far as to say, it's an obligation!) to be a positive change agent in the community and for it's customers. We take that obligation seriously giving financially back to the local community, helping to facilitate customers (and our own staff) to engage in local community service, and perhaps most importantly, helping support you, our guests and tenants, to have quality time with friends and family so that you can return home renewed and refreshed to help bring positive change back in your own home communities. I find it truly an honor to do this work and am grateful for the ability to do so.
Perhaps we will be able to host you and your family at the Beechwood home sometime soon. - Jen
Comfort in a 1980's Cabin
The cabin is in a beautiful location overlooking a mature swamp with lush vegetation. Bird life is abundant and can be viewed from the back deck. The exterior and interior of the cabin were in excellent shape and reflected the care of the owners. The interior was spacious and well maintained also. We particularly liked the great room which allowed a good view of the natural swamp area. The kitchen is a bit small but served its purpose. We were surprised that the interior decorations reflected the 1980's and not the current era. Obviously, that was the
intention of the owners. The interior of the cabin was clean and prepared to welcome residents.
A great place to relax and enjoy Mt Desert Island with all the comforts of home
Our group consisted of 4 couples. We came for Oktoberfest in Southwest Harbor and to enjoy the fall colors in Acadia. The accommodations were perfect for our group. The owners thought of every little detail - from the kitchen being well-equipped to having extra paper goods and towels easily accessible. The property is very clean and well-maintained. We had a fantastic trip and would highly recommend staying at Beechwood. We have stayed at several other home rentals before and this experience by far was the best.
Wonderful house for our family of 8 + one 9 month old. Very central to all sights of Acadia.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our family of 8 couples and a baby . Lovely large living dining area for baby to crawl and everyone to enjoy. Back deck overlooked secluded meadow and forest with trees just showing fall colours . Great for bbq's on 3 of our nights . Well appointed kitchen . Nice touches in bathrooms with quality shampoo and conditioner and make up removal wipes .Very centrally located just a short ride to all sights and some good restaurants Highly recommended .
We stayed here for my mom's 70th birthday trip to Acadia. It was a good size house for 6 of us plus a toddler. Kitchen had all the supplies you needed to make breakfast/ dinner. Jen was great at communicating and answering our questions.
Always happy to be of help!
Charming and well equipt
This is a lovely home with more than enough room for a family big or small! The setting was just far enough off the main road to be peaceful. The home is close enough to attractions
such as the lovely farm stand, Beech hill hiking trails and Echo Lake. The house was "move in ready" and we didn't have to bring anything (not even shampoo!) Our windshield was dirty from the long ride up north and there was glass cleaner in the fully stocked cleaning closet. Having the option to do laundry was a convenient as well. The deck was a great place to have morning coffee, grill dinner and hang out. We even had loons in the brook a couple of mornings! To top it all off, the frosty mugs we found all ready in the freezer made our day!
My husband, daughter and even our dog are looking forward to out next stay already!
Loons in Denning Brook! Fantastic! Sightings have been reported of Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, Osprey and zillions of song birds right from the house but you have the first Loon! That's great.
Located in the heart of Mount Desert Island, Beechwood is no more than 10 min from all the attractions Acadia National Park has to offer including the secluded hidden treasures on the “quiet side” of Acadia National Park. From Bar Harbor and the breathtaking Park Loop Rd to Bass Harbor and its famous lighthouse, you’ll spend more time exploring the wonders of this lovely island and less time getting there. Within just two miles of the house are three wonderful swimming and boating lakes, several spectacular hiking trails, beautiful Somes Harbor, and just up the road, Beech Hill Farm, the only organic farm stand on the island. The free island-wide shuttle bus can be picked up directly from this home allowing for a car-free vacation. Golf: Three golf courses located near by including the famous Northeast Harbor Club and Kebo Valley Golf Club. Bar Harbor Club is just off the island.
