Boathouse right on Flathead Lake w/ patio, deck and fire pit.
This unique waterfront property is the last surviving boathouse with living quarters above it. From the road you will walk down a wooded path to a private incline tram system that will carry you a hundred feet down to a world of lake shore living. When you get to the covered open-air deck, it is complete with a Weber gas BBQ, patio heater, table, chairs and a swing for two. In 2015 we added a new deck to the front of the Boathouse. Stepping through the sliding glass door you will see that the living level is decorated with fishing motif. In the corner is a wood stove which can be enjoyed from the overstuffed sofa-bed. The kitchen is well-furnished with cooking utensils and all appliances except for a dishwasher. There is an adorable bath with shower only. Up the winder staircase is a loft bedroom with queen bed and step-in closet plus a dormer niche with a bench. The dock and lake level of the property is shared with the property owners. You have your own boat slip and have full access to the dock, beaches, swim area, swim ladders, & canoe, (2) kayaks and a paddle boat.
New for 2018 boathouse now has Smart TV and WIFI !!!!!!!!!!!!
The boathouse level is totally private. The lower level with the dock and lake area of the property is shared with the property owners and their guests occasionally. You have your own boat slip and have full access to the dock, beaches, swim area and swim ladders. Guests may enjoy having a bonfire in the fire pit when there are no fire restrictions, though you will have to provide your own wood. The lakefront also has a romantic footbridge, patio area with picnic table. You are welcome to use the canoe, paddle boat and kayaks which are easily launched from the beach area.
Somers Bay Boathouse is conveniently located: 12 miles west of Bigfork which has live theater and dining; an hour from Glacier Park; 10 miles from historic downtown Kalispel; 5 miles from Lakeside which has a grocery store and dining; great restaurants are within 5 minutes driving toward downtown Somers. The street above the boathouse is part of a biking/walking path which takes you to historic Somers.

About Karen Bach
Earl and Karen are a middle aged couple with 2 collage students. We have owned the property for 18 years. Earl began remodeling the boathouse in 2003 and finished it in 2005. We thought we would use it more than we did and decided rather than have it stay empty, we would share it with others. Karen enjoys being your host, and we have a professional house keeper do our cleaning.
Karen Bach purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Karen Bach chose Flathead Lake
Quiet, private setting, right on the water
What makes this Cabin unique
Where to start...the way the property is set up, it feels like we don't hardly have any neighbors, which contributes to the privacy. The view is gorgeous and changes constantly. There are many birds/water fowl, including bald eagles (though they don't come around as much once the osprey move in for the summer). Even though there is so much to do in the area, many guests claim they find it hard to leave the boathouse.

Superb stay on the water. Perfec, well thoughtout accommodations
The Boat House is a wonderful, unique, well appointed guest house. We were so comfortable and happy with everything. Karen and Erle have spent a lot of thoughtful time making this cottage on the water a special place and memory.
The bed upstairs is extremely comfortable. Yes it is under and eave and no, it was not claustrophobic for me. I think the trade off for being privileged enough to stay in this space is well worth any quirks. After all, it is a converted boat house! My advice to the second person in this bed is simply “duck!” The new foldout couch’s mattress is very comfortable. There is a slight slant to the bed which is easily resolved by putting a piece of wood under it. I have not slept this well in months! Coffee on the dock at dawn — what could be better. Glorious.
We visited in early May so a lot of things are not open. I highly recommend circumnavigating the lake by heading to Big Fork which is a charming little town. I can’t recall the name of the little café, but it is on the right toward the end of the village. It makes the best pies I have tasted since my mother baked them. And Perks Coffeehouse (and breakfast and lunch) in Lakeside makes a fabulous coffee and with no exaggeration, the best scones I have ever ever eaten. Light, moist, flavorful, not your typical hard ball of dry dough. It rained for a lot of the weekend which only made us feel insulated and cozy as we lazily read. On Tuesday the sun broke and we actually got the kayaks out. It was idyllic.
Last but not least, the tram leading down to the boat house is such a kick and part of a wonderful memory.
Enjoy your stay, bring your garbage up and be grateful for such a wonderful spot! We will definitely return!
I love the Boathouse!
I love the Boathouse! So relaxing. Everything is perfect. The only thing to be aware of is that there is a short downhill gravel trail to get to the tram, so my advice would be to pack light. That being said, I don't follow my own advice and end up lugging much more than I need down the hill. But, that's what makes it perfect and puts you right on the water. I could never be bored watching and enjoying all that is happening on the lake. And, if you do need to find something to do breweries, distilleries, shopping, and Glacier National Park are not far away. The house is cozy and comfortable and the owners are so welcoming. I'll be back next year! Did I mention that I love the boathouse.
Great place for a weekend getaway.
My wife and I had a great time at the boathouse. It was a great place to relax and recharge for a few days.
Fantastic views an great space!
We loved the boathouse! We wish would could have stayed longer. Great amenities, fun gondola down to the water, everything we needed for a short get away!thank you!
I love THE BOATHOUSE!
Love, love, love The Boathouse! Have been coming for at least 3 years. So relaxing and comfortable. Has everything I need and the view is spectacular, plus there are different birds and otters to watch. Karen is amazing. Checks on your needs and then leaves you to yourself, which is why I am there. Lots of things to do nearby including Glacier Park. My daughter likes to visit the nearby breweries and distillery. Take home gifts and great pie can be found at the Huckleberry Patch in Hungry Horse. I take my craft tote and go for "me" time. If this is what you are doing, I would bring an extra lamp for light after the sun goes down. Kalispell is close if you need anything. This is where I go to rejuvenate and get ready for what the next year has to bring. Thanks for everything, Karen and Earl. See you next year.
Thanks so much! We look forward to seeing you each year!
Relaxing on the lake
This was the best place to celebrate my 60th birthday. I wanted be on a lake and this boat house provided that! The house is surrounded by water on 3 sides, the sunrises and sunsets were beautiful. The house is well appointed. Only thing i wished for was warm weather so we could have enjoyed the kayaks. We'll have to come back in the summer.
