Greetings from Palm Island, Florida. Palm Island is one of the last bastions of the old Florida lifestyle. Quiet and laid-back, Palm Island is really three islands (Don Pedro, Knights and Palm) with a contiguous seven mile white sand beach on the west and harbors and inlets on the east.

Palm Island is separated from the mainland by Lemon Bay, but is served every 10 minutes by car ferry as well as water taxi and private craft. Traffic is minimal, requiring no lights or stop signs and one paved road. Although vehicles are used, most island transport is via golf cars.

Tranquility House is a four bedroom beach home completed in 2008. With approx. 3,500+ s.f. of living space under air and 7,000 s.f. total space, this property is ideal for gatherings of families, friends, weddings and special occasions.

Tranquility House sleeps 12-16 people. It has been designed for strength, beauty, energy efficiency, comfort and low maintenance.

Excellent Home in a Peaceful Setting!

We chose this home for its privacy, size and amenities and we were not disappointed. The home is large and very well appointed. Everything you can think of is available for your use including a golf cart and minivan if you choose to use them to get around. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for cooking and preparing meals even for the 10 of us. (One thing I couldn't find was a potato masher, which is no deal at all but since the kitchen had absolutely everything else, I was surprised not to find one. However, it could have been there and I just missed it.) The storage downstairs has everything you can imagine for the beach from beach chairs and toys to umbrellas and boogie boards/ floats. The home is equipped with an elevator so it is a great home for elderly guests and those with disabilities. The elevator did have an issue our 2nd day there but the owner was there within the hour to resolve it. The owner is very pleasant, helpful and professional.

The home is decorated amazingly and the finishes are top notch. It really is a luxurious beach home. It doesn't have a pool but there is a pool you can use in the marina on the mainland. Speaking of mainland, yes, you need to take a 2 minute ferry ride to get on the island which for us was fine as we never left the island after getting on. There is a Publix nearby and we did all of our groceries for the week prior to our arrival. I can't speak for local restaurants since we cooked our own meals everyday. The road on the island is paved about halfway to the house. The rest of the way is was sand and huge holes. However, the owner informed me that they will be placing compacted crushed shells on that road and I indeed saw crews doing just that the day we were leaving.

The beach is very quiet and the views are amazing. During Turtle nesting season (May-October), you must close the blinds after sunset in order to use interior lights. It wasn't too big of a deal since we are big fans of our oceans and wildlife. To enjoy the beach views under moonlight, I would go to the 3rd floor deck (Best spot in all the house to relax and take in the views) with a drink and relax under the ceiling fan. There were places for ceiling fans on the 2nd floor deck but there weren't any. I'm assuming there are reasons for that. All the furniture inside/outside was comfortable but the master bed squeaks loudly with just my breathing. Overall, we had an A+ time and we will definitely stay at Tranquility House again.

Hard to please owners; countless charges & fine print

The owners charge for every little thing on top of the nightly rate and taxes. Some of which are: every person that stays in the house is a separate additional charge, if kitchen items are not in the exact drawer and spot as they were at your arrival ( there are photographs of every drawer you are to follow), any bit of sand found in the house or golf cart . . and the list goes on. The cleaning fee is exorbitant, for example they said it took them 17 hours to clean the house, which took the price of the cleaning fee up a lot after we spent time organizing all of their things and doing the laundry. The house was very clean when we left.

We had 8 family members staying in the house and because they thought we had more than the allowed number of guests they went through all of their security cameras to see who had been there. We found it to be an invasion of privacy since a lot of living at a beach house takes place outside. We were charged hundreds of dollars for our father smoking cigars outside.

Finally, to get to the pool you have to take the ferry back onto the mainland which is also a lot of money. That was not clear in the description at the time we rented the house.

Palm Island is a great place to visit and we as Floridians we have vacationed there several times, but will never return to this property. They owners are too much like lawyers and not kind renters. There is way too much legality involved in your stay at Tranquility House. I highly do not recommend getting involved with these people.

Owner's Response: We try hard to ensure everyone enjoys their experience and wants to return. However, when customers deliberately try to cheat us, we enforce the contract and do not invite them to return. Tranquility House is rented based on occupancy. That is very clearly stated on VRBO and in our documents and communications. We provided a written quote, contract and cleaning estimate for 6 people. This party brought additional people. This became quite obvious when we started the clean. Because the party did some cleaning, the cost of the final clean was actually less than the quoted estimate, even with more people. We do not permit pets or smokers anywhere on this property. That is spelled out very clearly in numerous places. The penalty for violations are spelled out in big black letters. This party lied on their application. They would never have been allowed to rent if they had told the truth. It has been 2 weeks and I am still picking up nasty cigar butts. We provided these renters with 10 refundable ferry passes. They demanded more for free. At the end of their stay, they only used 9 and we refunded 1.

Beach weekend

We had a wonderful time at Tranquility House. The house is maintained immaculately, the beach is very private and safe. The deck is awesome, it offers a great view of the beach and opens up completely to the kitchen and great room. This house is perfect for a family vacation. We will definitely return.

Paradise!

Our family had a wonderful week at Tranquility House! It was everything we expected and more! The home is lovely and filled with many comfortable spots to hang out. Everything you could possibly need is there! The house is very clean and well maintained and the owners were very responsive, before and during out stay. The beach is wonderful, not crowded at all, and great for children of all ages! A packed, sandy bottom made for fun swimming everyday! Dolphins swam by most days, too! A perfect getaway for those who truly want to 'get away and do nothing' - So relaxing!

Island paradise

Our family has stayed at Tranquility House for many years. We love the beauty and serenity of the island and this beautiful home. The beach is very private since a ferry needs to be crossed to get to the island. We feel our grandchildren are very safe on the beach while the adults in our family are watching them from the magnificent deck. Every amenity is provided and well maintained. The furnishings are of superior quality and the aqua tones of the sofa, chairs and walls reflect the beauty of the ocean. The interior is light and airy and very Floridian. Many happy memories were made in this house and we will continue to come as long as we can. Our family thinks of Tranquility House as their home away from home!
