Overview

About the property

Great vacation spot. Wide lake views.

Note: Our lake house has a stunning view of Lake Secession. At full pond, the water level is 8-9 feet at our dock. Our dock is covered for protection from the sun or showers while you fish. The rental includes use of the canoe. There is a large fire-pit and cut wood to roast marshmallows. Lake Secession is 7 miles long. It is over a mile wide at the far end. Jet skis and boats are allowed.

No cats allowed due to allergies.

We have Wifi and a 55" HDTV in the living room. The second floor sun room is 30 feet long. It has a ping pong table, dart games and several rocking chairs. We have a gas fireplace. There is a gas grill and charcoal grill on the wooden deck, which is shaded with umbrellas. Play horseshoes along the lake or relax in a rocker. Central air conditioning and heat keep the house at the right temperature.

We are located near historic Abbeville, and Anderson, which are 20 minutes away. Get pampered at the Day Spa, which is the oldest house in Anderson. Clemson University is 40 minutes north. That is a great college town.

What a wonderful house. We felt right at home. Excellent view of the lake, quiet, quaint location. We enjoyed canoeing, campfires, fishing, and even took the paddle boat for a spin. Definitely recommend this home.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Although Lake Seccession was dry, we had a wonderful long weekend at the property. The house was perfect - my wife really enjoyed the downstairs porch, fireplace, and wingback recliners - and located amidst some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. We visited and fished at some wonderful recreation areas and parks. The folks at the One Stop Sports Store were especially accommodating to us. We had a fabulous family Thanksgiving week-end, an the property is definitely on our Wish To Return list.

Love the stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful long weekend at the house. We wanted a different scenario, away from a noisy and crowded Miami; we definitely got it! The house was very nice. Nothing luxury, but extremely cozy, which was exactly what we were looking for. Enough space for a family of 10. Everything was clean and in good condition, we have not complains. It was a shame that the lake was drained, a situation that was previously explained to us. However, we do not regret our decision. We are looking forward to come back, maybe on summertime.

The owner was very nice, gave us plenty of suggestions for places to visit and things to do in Iva and near neighbor cities. Our neighbor Pete, a very nice gentleman, always concerned for our kids safety, helped us to coordinate a meeting to ride horses in the area.

I'll missed my afternoons in the fireplace room, reading and enjoying the view!!!!

Thank, Mr. Riflard for allowing us to have such a nice time at your lake house.

Karen and family.

Great place for the whole family to enjoy! 5 Stars!

  • 5 of 5

Let's just go ahead and get it out there... I saw a very negative review of this house just a few days before we were scheduled to be staying there, and it kind of freaked me out. I was the one in charge of booking the family get-together, and I was sure that there I would be the mockery of the family... "Do you remember that terrible vacation that so-and-so booked?" With much trepidation, we soldiered on to tiny little Iva, SC.

So the bad stuff... the mattress that I slept on was a little hard, but everyone else in the family said they were fine (maybe I'm just a wimp). The air condition was great upstairs, a little warm downstairs. And lastly, but most important... there was no pizza cutter.

Something I kept wanting to scream to the bad reviewer is "$100 PER NIGHT!!!" The average nightly price (according to VRBO) on this beautiful, peaceful LAKE HOUSE is $100. Unbelievable! The house was clean, with plenty of bedding and towels. We had a ton of fun on the paddle boat, sitting on the beautiful deck overlooking the lake, playing ping pong upstairs in the amazing sun room, grilling on the patio, going old school and playing Super Mario on the Super Nintendo downstairs (tons of fun for all ages, by the way), and just being together as a family. The kitchen is very well stocked with equipment, there is plenty of seating for a large family, and tons of things to do at the house.

Yes, the lake level was low. But what is the owner supposed to do about that? Do a rain dance? Put a water hose in the lake? I'm semi-local, so I know how long it has been since it rained last. Besides, my niece had fun picking up the oyster shells that were on the beach. Jeremy even emailed me before we stayed there to let us know the lake was low and offered to let us out of the rental or take some perks.

Ultimately, we were grateful that Jeremy offered his great lake house at an affordable price. We really enjoyed it and will certainly stay there again. But Jeremy, I expect there to be a pizza cutter there next time. In the meantime, I certainly recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in the area, just bring your own pizza cutter. 5 stars, easy.

Recommended activities: Denver Downs in the fall, tons of festivals in summer and fall, fishing, Drive In movie theater (double features!)... do some research, there are lots of local things to do.

A return visit...won't be the last

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to this home and I brought my parents with us this time. I knew that my Dad (and husband!) needed a quiet weekend of fishing and relaxing. We also brought along two teenagers who had never been on vacation. They had the most fun of all. They spent HOURS just floating in the lake or paddling the canoe. Saturday they only came in to eat! There are many things that make this house perfect for us. The gorgeous view of the lake and the ease of access to it, the paddleboat and canoes, the long porches upstairs and down so that there was plenty of "get away" space, the covered patio outside, the kitchen being downstairs, two tables to allow us to eat together and leave the Mexican train game set up at the same time. etc. . At times all 8 of us were somewhere off by our self and the layout of the house made that possible. I search out properties on VRBO that are homey and comfortable, not stuffy and pretentious. This is the perfect place for going and staying. We never felt like we had to leave to have something to do. We will return for a third visit!
