Note: The entire lake will be lowered from November 2016 to March 2017. The docks will be unusable. Our lake house has a stunning view of Lake Secession. At full pond, the water level is 8-9 feet at our dock. Our dock is covered for protection from the sun or showers while you fish. The rental includes use of the canoe. There is a large fire-pit and cut wood to roast marshmallows. Lake Secession is 7 miles long. It is over a mile wide at the far end. Jet skis and boats are allowed.
No cats allowed due to allergies.
We have Wifi and a 55" HDTV in the living room. The second floor sun room is 30 feet long. It has a ping pong table, dart games and several rocking chairs. We have a gas fireplace. There is a gas grill and charcoal grill on the wooden deck, which is shaded with umbrellas. Play horseshoes along the lake or relax in a rocker. Central air conditioning and heat keep the house at the right temperature.
We are located near historic Abbeville, and Anderson, which are 20 minutes away. Get pampered at the Day Spa, which is the oldest house in Anderson. Clemson University is 40 minutes north. That is a great college town.
This was our second visit to this home and I brought my parents with us this time. I knew that my Dad (and husband!) needed a quiet weekend of fishing and relaxing. We also brought along two teenagers who had never been on vacation. They had the most fun of all. They spent HOURS just floating in the lake or paddling the canoe. Saturday they only came in to eat! There are many things that make this house perfect for us. The gorgeous view of the lake and the ease of access to it, the paddleboat and canoes, the long porches upstairs and down so that there was plenty of "get away" space, the covered patio outside, the kitchen being downstairs, two tables to allow us to eat together and leave the Mexican train game set up at the same time. etc. . At times all 8 of us were somewhere off by our self and the layout of the house made that possible. I search out properties on VRBO that are homey and comfortable, not stuffy and pretentious. This is the perfect place for going and staying. We never felt like we had to leave to have something to do. We will return for a third visit!
I hate writing a poor review on anything, but I feel I must share the reality of this rental as it was not at all what we were expecting and certainly not up to the standards that a vacation rental should be. My sister and I rented this lake home the 3rd week of August and we very unpleasantly surprised. We arrived at dusk and were first shocked at the unkept and dark appearance of the entrance, only to find that there was no key in the lock box. Luckily, we had the owners # and he called us back within 10 min. He sent a caretaker over within 20 min. to let us into the property. Not a great start to our vacation we had long awaited from a very stressful year. Once we got inside, we were still feeling like we had made a mistake and wasn't even sure we wanted to stay. We got settled in and just went to bed, hoping that things would look better in the morning. There were multiple beds to choose from but the mattresses were obviously old, squeaky, and uncomfortable. It should be known that one available bed is a trundle mattress on the floor. I found myself most comfortable on the couch the entire week. The furniture throughout very old and mostly mismatched leftover peices.
The next morning brought a beautiful view out the back and a beautiful sunrise, but it also brought light to poor unkept condition of the place. This is obviously a very old family home that has been added onto many times very roughly by a handyman. The pictures do not reflect the poor condition and very poor upkeep of the place. It is more of a rough fishermans cabin that isn't maintained well. Hand prints all over most windows, mold in the shower, dirty floors, stink in laundry room so bad we could hardly use it. Some of the patio furniture was so old and weathered we wouldn't use it. The swing was only the old frame... no swing. Only 4 peices of fire wood avail. Dishes had to be washed before use because of dirty film. Air conditioner didn't cool the downstairs. The water was so low that we couldn't swim... found out later that the lake had been partially drained to work on the dam. Had a 9 hour power outage day before we left. Renters shouldn't be asked to drive their own garbage 2.5 miles away.
We did catch fish from the doc. Paddle boat and canoes were nice options. The view of the lake was beautiful. Quick response from owner.
Sorry, but the place was in such poor unkept condition all around that I would be embarassed to rent it if it were mine
Upon arrival I thought the set up of the house was a little weird (living room & bed rooms upstairs, but kitchen downstairs), BUT once settled it was a great set-up! We could get dinner ready without the kids getting in the way. 😊We all played ping pong in the upstairs sun room, ate dinner in the downstairs sun room & had nightly game night in the downstairs "dining area". The kids & I did daily canoe and paddle boat rides and fished. We went to the Amish bakery, Callahan Farms & downtown Greenville.
The views of the lake were great. Had a lot of fun on the lake with the kids.
Our family enjoyed staying in this spacious, lakefront home. Because we were visiting my mom, who is recovering from surgery and has temporary mobility issues, we spent much of our time upstairs. The layout was perfect, as entry is on the 2nd floor, with direct and easy access to the large sunroom. We visited there for many hours, watching the kids enjoying the lake. There are several rocking chairs in the sunroom, and a small table. We also made good use of the ping pong table. The lake was a great hit, especially with the kids, who spent hours swimming, canoeing, and paddle boating. We saw several turtles and osprey while on the boats.
We visited during an extremely hot week. By turning the window unit in the sunroom on in the morning before it overheated, the room stayed very comfortable. The AC unit in the house kept the bedrooms comfortable. The only place we felt the heat was in the kitchen, downstairs. However, we had planned a lot of our meals for the crockpot (although we'd taken our own, we discovered one in the well stocked kitchen that we would use next time) so that minimized our time in the kitchen, and because of my mom's difficulty walking, we carried most of our food upstairs and ate in the sunroom. There is a small convenience store close by, but the nearest grocery store is several miles away in Abbeville, so you might want to stock up on supplies ahead of time if you don't want to do much driving during your stay.
The house is in the country, with all the advantages that brings--quietness, birdwatching, swimming, boating. If you're bothered by bugs, though, be aware that those come with being close to nature and some do make it into the house. There were lots of spiders outside, and if we cleared the dock overhang of them in the morning, they'd rebuild before evening. However, the bugs also meant that the resident phoebes were very active, and from the sunroom we enjoyed watching the birds divebomb flying insects.
Finally, our favorite local restaurant is Grits and Groceries (cash only) in nearby Belton. Food is excellent, and even though it was hot, we enjoyed the outdoor tables since they are under a shaded pavilion. Hours are rather limited, so be sure to check ahead of time to make sure they are open. I highly recommend the lemon pound cake with a scoop of buttermilk lemon ice cream, but all of their desserts are delicious.
Jeremy was helpful, and we hope to rent this home again when we next visit my mom.
Our family visited the Lake House during second week in March. It was bit nippy out seeing that we are from Central Florida that was a wonderful change. The home is older and has stairs so visitors with small children be aware. Home was furnished with all the necessities to cook and maintain our stay. Iva, SC is a very small town, very quite and secluded from everything.... WONDERFUL!!!! Located about 2 hours from Atlanta, GA (we got to spend the day there) and 1.5 from the Blue Ridge Mountains (again we spent another day there).
Fishing was great, kids loved the paddle and canoe boats available on property <3 Fire pit outside was perfect for evening camp fire and smores!!!!
Only real dislike was one bed... it was so firm my 7 year old said "mom, I don't want to sleep on the brick". There was accommodations however for everyone!!! Tons of room inside and out! 2 kitchen tables, outside deck area, covered seating area, 2 docks for fishing. And enough room to actually sleep 13 if you needed to (that would require you to use the couches).
Thank you for allowing us to use your lake home for our spring break vacation <3!!!!!!
