About Stu or Susan

We live in the local area and LOVE our beach time watching ships from the balcony, walking the beach and seeing dolphin play offshore, etc. It's our pleasure to provide all the hospitality we can to help you enjoy the exquisite Savannah and Tybee area! :)

Why Stu or Susan chose Coastal Georgia

Savannah Beach and Racquet Club is the perfect spot on Tybee to us for vacationing couples and small families. We have the largest pool on the island (one of only two beachside), with a kiddie pool. There's lots of parking (often a BIG problem on Tybee), outdoor grills and tennis courts. This northern beach area where Tybee juts out into the ocean like Hilton Head does (just to our north..the lights are gorgeous at night) is THE spot on the island to see dolphin play off the beach, ships and shrimp boats pass, etc.

What makes this condo unique

Local Owner contact, guest packets in the mail full of area info before you come, water views, largest pool on the island and kiddie pool, security gate. Watch ships pass and dolphin play!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for sharing your vacation home with us!!! It was perfect. And..the gift bag was so thoughtful and so well used! Our daughter thanks you for the stuffed shark! She loved it! I think this will be our home away from home. It's the perfect spot too...we will NOT stay on the crowded, noisy, full of bars south end of the island. That's no place for children.

Do we have to go back to Tennessee??? We loved it all. Thanks againl.

Don't hesitate.

I just contacted the owner of "The Captain's Quarters" for another visit in spring and she asked me to please post a review no matter what I thought of the visit this fall. I appreciate that approach and I'm glad to. i should have done it before. First, I recommend dealing ONLY with local owners. We've learned that the hard way. Things can happen that require owner assistance. I'd also look at the majority of the reviews. Every owner can get a nut (sorry) or someone who's mad at the world, but if 90% of the reviews are "one way" you can tell what your experience will be. We hadn't been to the area when we booked, so the owner emailed us a lot of area pictures. She gave a complete explanation by email of about 60 lines when we inquired. I hate it when people just say "it's available and here's what it costs." I can tell THAT from the listing and calendar. Also, we were given a full contract with everything in writing which pleased my husband. AND..we were sent a big packet of brochures and area info on parks and attractions and tours and bike rentals and so forth before we came. We are coming back because we enjoyed this professional and warm approach very much and had a great experience. The condo was very clean and beachy, which I personally like. I don't want to stay at the beach in a condo that looks like it could be anywhere. We had two flat screen t.v.s and books and movies and all we needed. This place has the biggest pool on the island and beach just beyond the pool. The condos are small; don't expect the taj mahal (sp?) for what you pay. There are crummy motel rooms on Tybee for more than this. Anyway, we highly recommend this owner from experience and are glad to be returning in March to a very comfy and nice and clean environment.

A nice stopover with wonderful owners

  • 4 of 5

We have used VRBO numerous times and this is the first review I am writing, not so much because of the unit which was fine but because of the owner Susan who was the most prompt in responding and helpful in sending off local information. She also offered us an additional night at no cost. Who does that?!?

The unit is very clean, plenty of linens, along with beach chairs, books and DVDs should you be bored. We had to honker down one day indoors due to hurricane Hermine and did fine enjoying the basic cable and the kids were thrilled to have wifi!

We did not use the condo's beach as there was no lifeguard and it was just a quick drive to the public beach. We were able to see dolpins on a couple occasions though while at the pool.

I would not hesitate in staying here again should I return to Tybee.

Owner's Response: We so very much appreciate your visit and certainly your kind words. Making visit family feel like they are personal family is very, very important we think.:) The tropical storm did bring some rain for you for one day; we're glad it didn't linger. Those systems are rare in this area. Yes, you can see many dolphin off this beach generally; it's where the dolphin tour boats come. We hope you also saw many of the huge cargo ships passing offshore as they start to head toward or out of the port of Savannah about 13 miles inland...the 2nd busiest container port in the country! Tybee provides lifeguards on only one small stretch of beach down by the pier; they are not provided anywhere else on the island. So, caution in not going out too far is advised. Actually, that's also good advice where the lifeguards are! There are seldom drownings on the island, but the last several over a few years have been where the lifeguards are!!! They can do only so much if people are very unwise and venture way out into the waters. If you search Tybee Island on cnn.com you'll find an article naming it the number one beach in America for all the good/healthy reasons, as well as it's proximity to Savannah which is a top ten destination in almost every world travel publication every year! It takes quite a bit of time to even begin to enjoy all the area offers, so we hope you'll make your way here again. And, if so, we would be delighted to have you visit with us again. You were wonderful guests!

I love it, and a true love last forever.

Captains Quarters has become my favorite place on earth, so much so that it has become our family's annual retreat. Tybee is amazing, as is Savannah, but you probably already knew that or you wouldn't be perusing Tybee Island rentals.

The condo is always immaculate and perfect for what we need (family of four). Full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, balcony with a view of the water, it really has everything. Honestly though if you're spending that much time inside you probably aren't doing a beach vacation correctly. Might I recommend the pool? Open from 9am-9pm, the large pool has plenty of seating and even an attached kiddie pool. Not far from the pool is the private beach access right on the Savannah River as it opens to the ocean. I cannot praise this enough for kids. No waves and an amazingly large beach area during low tide with little to no crowds. Two amazing pizza places are also within walking distance, just saying. Laundry facilities on-site, private parking, tennis courts, really this place is perfect for a family vacation.

Owner's Response: Chris, thank you so much for taking your valuable time to write us such a lovely review. We are thrilled that you feel you are at home in the Captain's Quarters; that's what we want for all of our guests. I'd like to make one point of clarification that there is no reason you should have known! :) The Savannah River starts up at Cockspur Island, not here. This is in the federal colregs as the Tybee Roads area of the ATLANTIC OCEAN! Since Tybee is an island and other islands can be in view, I know it's easy to think one isn't in the ocean when one is. I totally agree though that this part of the island has more "protected" beaches that can feel much safer when, for example, some other beaches are closed for heavy rip currents like they were during your stay. Please enjoy the rest of your summer immensely and we so look forward to haviing you visit with us again.

What a surprise!

If you are looking for a quiet relaxing condo this is the place to come! Look at the pictures and when you arrive everything is just as it looks! Lots of room in the living room and kitchen...not crowded at all and the most comfortable bed ever! When we arrived the first thing we did was connect both laptops and our tablet to the wifi...works perfectly with no bogging down! We are business owners and have to rely on facebook and e-mails to reach out to our customers. Thank you so much Susan for a perfect mini vacation! We will be back again and soon!

Owner's Response: Kathy, oh goodness! You have two businesses to run and a family, so we are honored that you took your time to write us such a lovely review...and during your vacation! You are supposed to be resting! :) We're so glad you are pleased with the Captain's Quarters and all it offers. You wrote an email that you are headed down to the beach to fish for trout, so I hope that is/was very successful! :) I'm sure you've enjoyed seeing dolphin play off the beach; this is where the dolphin tour boats on the island come! Also, there are wonderful frequent views of huge cargo ships in the distance as they head to and from the port of Savannah (about 14 miles in from here), which is the nation's 2nd largest container port. You have two televisions and beach chairs and beach towels and books and movies, etc., so we hope the time is very relaxing for a busy couple like you two. Thank you again; we look forward to your future visits.

NEED TEN STARS....FIVE NOT ENOUGH!

  • 5 of 5

I was so excited to go to the east coast to see wonderful Savannah and Tybee Island for my birthday. I am a California "health nut" and had read an article on cnn.com where Tybee was named the number one healthiest beach in America! Also, everyone knows these days that Savannah is exquisitely beautiful and is a top travel destination for visitors from all over the world.

I (and my friend) were of course lost having never been to the area or anywhere near it.

Looking for an accommodation all by itself solved most if not all of our problems. These owners are amazingly friendly and helpful. I guess these things shouldn't be too long, but it's hard to be brief. We were given directions from the Savannah International Airport to our door. We were mailed a big packet of information on things to do and parks and tours and kayaking and historic district tours and all sorts of things. After asking my preferences and desires because I wanted a special birthday dinner, the lady (don't know if I can say names here) strongly suggested the Olde Pink House in Savannah for my birthday dinner. It was the perfect, perfect choice. We got directions to two big grocery stores only about 7 or 8 miles from the condo which we NEVER would have found. All possible help was given.

Our condo was beachy and nautical and clean and just charming. If I'm at the beach, I personally don't want to be in a condo that looks like it could be anywhere! A lot of care had made this feel "Oceanside." We had plenty of cookware, linens, towels, beach towels, beach chairs, soap, paper products, yada yada. We could see the huge cargo ships pass from the balcony and loved the massive pool and had three great games of tennis! We had two televisions which made it great for our different tastes in viewing matter. We checked around Tybee and found a lot of areas too crowded for our taste. We loved this location for more quiet and privacy and streets you could actually bike on without feeling in danger! The beach is gorgeous and for us there was a delight to see a minute like shrimpboats and the ships and the blue I think they are called Pilot boats and so many things...especially dolphin! I'm sure the dolphin will show up when they feel like it, but we lucked into seeing huge numbers.

We loved Tybee and this spot and these owners and I hope to save up enough to come back for my birthday next year. I highly endorse this listing.

Owner's Response: Ellie..It's so wonderful to see/hear that you really enjoyed your birthday trip; we know that you said being a preschool teacher you saved up for it a long time. We were more than glad to do all we could to help. Your thank you note in the mail was so very thoughtful as well. This part of Tybee does so well suit those who want to see the cargo ships and shrimpboats and dolphin; this is where the dolphin tour boats come as you may have seen. Many do enjoy biking as you did, because the streets around our location lend themselves to that well and bikes are so readily available for rental on Tybee. Isn't it wonderful that our tiny but exquisite island doesn't allow high rises and that three stories is the max? That helps a great deal with the "homey beach town" atmosphere along with so many quaint shops and restaurants. We're so glad you enjoyed the "nautical" condo and felt that you were well supplied and well taken care of. I totally agree with one of your comments; I don't want to walk into a condo and have it look like it could be anywhere. It should reflect the ambiance of an island. It will be wonderful if you can make it for your birthday next year. We'll be glad to have you back and appreciate your taking your valuable time to tell others about your experience.

We are so happy!! Will be back and back and back!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented motels at Tybee many times due to having relatives close by without room for us. The last 2 or 3 years we've felt priced out of the market. We know Tybee has been picked the number one east coast beach by trip advisor and has lots of awards like that. The prices are high I guess due to huge demand and the fact that it's a small city and it doesn't allow high rises. We were pretty much priced out of the motels, even the crummy ones where we wouldn't stay anyway. A guy I whined to about Tybee prices on my same hospital shift suggested I try a condo by owner, and told me about the one where he has stayed twice. The Captain's Quarters. My friend said he has stayed in about nine of these condos before this one which he is now stuck on, because it has a dishwasher which he didn't get before and beach chairs and beach towels provided and beachy decorating and a bedroom t.v. which he didn't get before and things like that. He said the owners are great and REALLY reasonable for so much more than a motel! I wrote the owner. Wow. I got a long explanation of everything in very welcoming manner. I said I trusted it due to my co-worker and asked where I could send a deposit. I was told by the owner "no no...we'll email you a contract first with all your info and costs and terms and conditions to be VERY sure you understand everything and are happy with everything before you send us money." My wife is a paralegal and thought that is always important and really liked that. When we said the deposit was in the mail, we got sent a big what they call "guest packet" full of information about all sorts of attractions and activities and the beach rules and so forth, and a letter giving us directions and how to get in. I wrote the owner for a couple of questions and got long and complete answers down to directions on how to get to Publix where we haven't shopped before. The condo was very clean and nice and had lots of extras for us. It's so nice and a money saver to have a kitchen instead of being in a motel with nothing like that much less a separate bedroom and balcony with water view from one side and tennis courts. We never thought about that and treated ourselves to new racquets so we could play!! The pool is HUGE and the beach access right beside it is very handy. We took our coffee down to the beachwalk and watched ships and were lucky enough to see several groups of dolphin. We loved the condo and the owners and have the next time reserved!

Owner's Response: Hello, Gee! We so appreciate the review and, much more importantly, that you so enjoyed your time with us and already have another visit booked. Yes..private homes offer much more than a motel room I agree and you found you ended up spending less than you were for having a complete home, so to speak, as well as the largest pool on the island to use, the protection of a security gate, and such easy access to lovely beach with great ship and dolphin views with any luck. We appreciate your visit AND your time to write this and look forward to having you with us often!!
