Located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and snugly situated overlooking one of Santa Cruz's best beaches, Twin Lakes Beach, this home is ideally situated to take in the unobstructed 260 degree ocean views from nearly every room. The Captain's Quarters is sure to be your oceanfront vacation destination!

This single family one story home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and two full kitchens for two or more families to enjoy. You will overlook the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary from the game room featuring vaulted wood beam ceilings, a full size pool table, and walls of oversized picture windows. Generously spacious - with 160 feet of ocean frontage and enough parking for 4 cars, the Captain's Quarters can easily accommodate 3 generations in comfort. Direct beach access is via stairway just a few steps from the deck.

The Captain's Quarters is an excellent central location in Santa Cruz; located midway between the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Capitola, and just a short walk to the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. Buy your fresh fish locally from the Stagnero's boat on the Wharf, and enjoy preparing a meal in either fully equipped kitchen, or just relax and stop in at one the many restaurants and nearby nightlife that abound. Later, roast marsh mellows and stoke bonfires in the fire rings provided on the beach.

You will enjoy breathtaking sunrises from the master suite. At night, the lights of Monterey, Moss Landing and Pacific Grove glitter across the Bay. We stayed at the Captain's Quarters for a week in June 2013, and enjoyed our visit tremendously. The views throughout the house are spectacular. The youngsters in our party delighted in being able to got right down the steps to the beach. The house, while 1970s quirky, was quite comfortable and very well equipped with everything from beach towels and sand buckets to plenty of serving ware and flatware, cooking utensils and everything needed for a home away from home. Liz of Beachnest was very helpful and responsive to our questions and concerns. We will be staying there again.

The view is beautiful

Thanks for letting us stay at your unit. It looks like the owners put a lot of work into the deck and the sliding doors. For this type of rental though I was surprised to see exposed wiring underneath the stove to the right in the small kitchen, garbage bags not provided, need more pillows, blinds broken in the back bedrooms, garbage disposal broken in small kitchen, and the shower head in the master bedroom is very old. For these type of prices a new shower head doesn't cost very much. Thank you again.

Spectacular views and great beach access

We spent five nights here for Thanksgiving. We were overwhelmed by the views from both inside the house and from the deck. The beach access was easy and great for dog owners/lovers. Kitchens and bathrooms are in need of some updating, but that's easy to overlook because of the location of the property and the other common areas/bedrooms. I highly recommend for people who are ready to spend time enjoying the beauty of Santa Cruz beaches and who want to see the most spectacular sunsets imaginable.

Unbelievable Views From Every Room

The moment we walked into the house, our family was transfixed by the 200 degree views the 12 expansive windows showed off like a post card. We could see the boats coming in and out of the harbor, the boardwalk northwards and the Moss Landing towers southward. Monterey came in across the bay when perfect weather allowed. The amazingly easy beach access allowed the adults to watch the kids body board and the dog friendly beach made it fun for the entire family. The days with clouds allowed the sun to light up spots on the ocean for an apocalyptic feel. The one rainy day still allowed us amazing views and water sports. We saw no less than 10 otters and 2 dolphins. They swam about 20 feet from us at times.

Restaurants and surf shops are near by, but we all wanted to eat in and hang out on the wind shielded deck.

We will remember this vacation for many years.

Beautiful Beach location in desperate need of attention.

Let me first start by saying the view can not be beat. Gorgeous. The interior of the house desperately needs some attention. Its like staying at a frat house that they bought new comforters for. The carpet is stained, the kitchen is VERY under supplied - and the "Sleeps 8" factor is assuming 2 people are sleeping in the living room on an old, uncomfotable pull out couch. The wifi is very slow & the cords and modem are sloppily placed on a kitchen counter. I've rented many properties on VRBO all over the US and this was, by far, the most run down house. Do not plan on staying here with the intention of making meals, you will be VERY disappointed by the kitchen situation. Even the coffee maker didn't have everything needed to brew coffee. There was one wine opener, but the cork screw was broken off. The property management folks are very unorganized and unprofessional, (slow to respond & the different employees don't seem to communicate with each other).

The house is in a great location, with a trip to Ikea & Crate & Barrel they could really make the place much better. But, like I said in the beginning, the view & the location are amazing - if you are 6, 30 year old, surfers that just want a place to crash & order take out.

Very disappointed!

The house is beautiful on the outside in a great location with an incredible view and a great beach.

However, we felt that it is expensive for a view and two updated bedrooms.

We were very disappointed because none of the pictures show the following:

- Two clean kitchens but very old, with two ovens but no baking trays or oven dishes.

- Three clean but very small and old bathrooms, with holes and patches in the walls.

- Very used furniture in the dining room and especially in the family room. It is not showing because the sofa has been changed. It was very hard to feel comfortable and to relax.

- Stained carpet by the pool table and stained sheets and pillow cases.

- Two out of the four lounging chairs on the deck are broken.

Owner's Response: Stephanie, thank for taking the time to provide your feedback from your stay at the Captain's Quarters. We are sorry that this property did not meet with your expectations. In response to your comments: - The two full kitchens are fully equipped and functional with plenty of baking trays and oven dishes, pots and pans, flatware, glasses, cups, etc. (We have added more trays and serving dishes since your stay with us in February). - To clarify the bathroom configuration, there are 3 full bathrooms in the house. One is between the two bedrooms in the new part of the house and features a separate large bathtub, tile shower stall, and vanity area (a large bathroom). At the time of your stay, the towel rack had come off of the wall and was in the process of being repaired. There are no longer any holes and patches apparent in this bathroom. The second bathroom is large and is en suite off the master bedroom in the center of the house. This bathroom has a tile shower stall and two vanity areas. The third bathroom in the old part of the house has a small tile shower stall with vanity area. - There is a good quality (but yes, worn), light gray, Italian leather sectional sofa in the living room, in addition to two wing-back chairs (in very good condition), and a sleeper-sofa with seating for up to 8. We sorry to learn that you were not able to relax and feel comfortable in this space. - There are two rooms in the house that are carpeted and we have the carpets professionally cleaned every couple of months, and have done so since your stay in February. - The owner's have recently purchased a comfortable and attractive outdoor furniture set for the deck which features an outdoor sofa and two lounge chairs (seating for 6) in additional to the patio set that seats up to 6 for outdoor dining, etc. The location and unobstructed views at the Captain's Quarters are unparalleled, making it one of the most sought after and popular vacation rentals in Santa Cruz!
