Gorgeous, Peaceful, Yet Near Lots of Fun

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog and I were lucky enough to stay here over New Years for 2009. The house, acreage and peaceful setting were perfectly described here, but it was even better than we hoped. It's got beautiful light from windows on all sides; a cozy woodstove to read/nap by; a warm hot tub to thaw you out after a long snowshoe or cross-country outting, and a tv/dvd player if the quiet gets to be too much. We loved the house and our dog did, too- he romped around outside and loved the nearby trails. The owners were extremely responsive- we couldn't figure out how to use the hot tub (just needed to know which switch!) and they responded immediately to our questions. They also provided great meal and activity options- we followed many of their trail suggestions and food recommendations and were well pleased. The kitchen has everything you need- full stove, oven and dishwasher (nice to have when you are on vacation), and there's a Shaws Market and local/ organic food market easily reachable nearby. If you don't feel like cooking, the nearby options are plentiful, tasy and span from cheap eats to a very nice night out. The house is very close to vermont institution Vermont Flatbread Co. in one direction, and the New England Culinary Institute's restaturant and lunch/bistro place in Montepelier (no more than 20 minutes away).

Though we don't have kids and we came in the winter, I'd highly recommend this to couples and families alike, for any season. I have no doubt that the mountain view would be beautiful in fall foliage splendor, and the house is near cross country and downhill skiing for winter, great swimming holes and local fun activities for summer, plus the house would easily accomodate more than just two. Like the other review here, not only would we recommend this place, we can't wait to come back!

Wonderful, cozy retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything you need. The place is bright and open, with lots of room for everyone. We had a white Christmas, could snowshoe right behind the barn and warm up in front of the fire at night. The cows were fun to watch and the neighbor's dog (who loved to come down the hill to visit) was very friendly. We didn't want to leave!

Stargazing and Firefly Spotting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Mike and Caroline's house in Moretown for several summer days. We chose the property because we like to stargaze -- which means a dark sky. We weren't disappointed. The property is on 10 acres, and we were able to see a ton of stars. But before that show, there were thousands of fireflies flittering around the meadow near the firepit.

The house itself is roomy and airy. We were delighted to find a perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet and griddle for pancakes (with VT maple syrup, of course). The house is immaculate and we really enjoyed birdwatching on the summer porch. If you're looking for a retreat in Vermont, your search is over. The house is about 15 minutes away from American Flatbread, and it's an easy 30 minute drive to Waterbury (Ben & Jerry's, Prohibition Pig, and Green Mountain Coffee).

If you're a TV watcher, bring DVDs as the cable is very limited and you won't get CNN or other typical cable channels. You'll also need to either bring your own linens or rent them, as we did. Finally, this is the place to unplug, which is great since we were beyond AT&T cell service. Enjoy!

Perfect House for Ski Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderful week staying at Mike and Caroline's house in Moretown. We loved using the house as a base for a fantastic ski vacation. The house is conveniently located, and we skied at Mad River Glenn, Sugarbush and Stowe. There are a number of great restaurants close by, including American Flatbread, Prohibition Pig (in Waterbury) and Mad Taco in Waitsfield. The Valley is gorgeous, and we loved having this great house as a base to explore. Would come back in a second.

Mike and Caroline were extremely responsive, and answered numerous emails leading up to the trip promptly.

Bright and Peaceful Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Shhhh....Don't let too many folks in on how beautiful this area is ;) We ( 4 adults and a dog) had a wonderful stay at this mountain retreat while visiting family in the area. The pictures are very accurate and everything was quite clean. It's wonderful that dogs are allowed, but you would not know it based on how clean and fresh things were. Since it was January we did not get the opportunity to use the sun porch, but if we are back in nice weather(hopefully!), I know that will be my favorite spot. I loved waking up in the morning and looking out at the farmland and watching the cows. Lots of land on the property and surrounding areas for hikes and snow shoeing; we had just enough snow to make that possible. The entryway is perfect for getting set to hit the snow and unbundling after a long day of fun.

Caroline and Mike were extremely responsive and helpful. We all had a wonderful time and I'm so glad we found such a great spot for when we visit again. Hope to be back soon!

A toasty haven for a wonderful ski retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful vacation rental. It's hard for the pictures to really do it justice. The home itself is really lovely: beautiful architecture, bright and warm, a nice big kitchen with modern appliances, and lots of space to spread out. Not to mention the jet bath! The location was just what we were after: it's on a private piece of land, away from town, making it feel like a real retreat, but an easy 20-25 minute drive to Sugarbush / Mad River Glen ski hills (plus, bonus, the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory!), and just a few minutes from shops and restaurants. We really felt like we got lucky to stay at this spot. The owners are also very courteous and helpful. This would be a really great spot as well for a family with space for kids. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a holiday rental in this area.
