About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Den, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 10-24)

The quite friendly atmosphere of Big Sky Montana awaits you. This is the last pristine ski areas of the west remaining, almost 6,000 acres, largest Ski area in United States. There are never lines at either the ski hill or the grocery store. Small town atmosphere, with Village activities all the time, and Mountain activities year round.

The scenery and views are ones you have only seen in magazines or movies. This is the best-kept secret in America. It also has the Gallatin River, Yellowstone River and Madison Rivers, all year round trophy trout rivers with world-class fly-fishing. It is also near four golf courses. It has downhill skiing, cross country skiing and heli skiing, and sledding hills. It features horseback riding into the mountains all seasons. There are hot spring swimming pools open all 4 seasons. There are individual snowmobiles for rental or large snow cat excursions into Yellowstone Park that will show you geysers, winter animals and Yellowstone Park Lodge. There are also moonlight sled rides into the woods to large tents with cowboy dinners and entertainment cowboy style. They turn to wagon rides with dinner when the snow is gone. There is no end to the entertainment in the months without snow. There is hiking, mountain bike riding park excursions, white water rafting, high mountain lake fishing and river fishing, zip lines and children's activities and village activities including rodeos and hockey and concerts and art shows nearly every weekend year around.

Our home features five bedrooms, full-size kitchen, two laundry rooms, two family rooms, and 3 fireplaces, one outdoor. The home is made of 90% reclaimed lumber, which came from a 100-year-old dairy farm in Nampa Idaho.

The home features two large antler chandlers. Enjoy a cold night on the deck huddled up close to the fireplace. Radiant floor heating through out the house will sure keep you nice and toasty, no cold tile here. The home is halfway up the mountain road between the mountain village and the meadow village, four minutes either way to Big Sky and Moonlight Basin Ski Areas.

It is 45 miles from Yellowstone National Park and 40 miles from Bozeman, Montana. Start making memories in our rustic get-away with your family in our Big Sky retreat. This home is especially set up for large families. It has additional small kitchen in basement. Two Dishwashers, Two laundry rooms 2 fridges, internet TV, TVs in most rooms, Hot tub in backyard, and jetted tub and shower in master bedroom. It has sleds for children, an indoor grill, and a state of the art kitchen with under the counter ice maker.

About Sidney Holladay

Our family has been coming to Big Sky for 14 years now. We started in a small condo, and as our family grew, we traded up and added properties, till we finally built our dream home. We have 4 married children and 9 grand children. This home fits us all. It has everything our large family requires. We are from Idaho, but now live in Georgia. We bought the remains from a 100 year old milk farm and reused the lumber that was salvaged from this farm. We now have Idaho and Montana and Georgia all in one. This home is warm and cozy with in-floor heat and the perfect location. It is in the most beautiful place on earth. It is remote enough to give us seclusion, yet around enough natural wonders to keep us exercised and entertained and challenged. Our family counts the days till we return to our 'Pontana.' as referred to by our grand children.

Sidney Holladay purchased this house in 2007

Why Sidney Holladay chose Big Sky

Big Sky is the perfect location, in the woods, but close to skiing, restaurants, grocery stores. fishing, Yellowstone, and naturally occuring moose, elk, deer, bears, and bighorn sheep, that always have the right of way and our wonder and respect. There is never a shortage of things to do, and never a moment when it is inappropriate to fall out and snooze till you wake up to graze through the pantry. Or, you may want to hop in the car and head to the ski hill for a couple of runs. Lazy days or energetic hikes are here for the taking. Bozeman is a 40 minute drive through the most beautiful montain peakes and along the Gallatin River that begs you to stop and toss in a line, 365 days every year. It is a quaint town that has everything you could ever need, except Wall Street, and Times Square. It now has direct flights from Atlanta and other major cities. The airport is being expanded, much to our dismay. We like parking across the street with $3.00 parking fees and leaving our keys at the delta counter. At last, our mecca is being discovered.

What makes this house unique

Our home has radiant floor heat, cozy fireplaces, comfy beds, 2 of everything including diswashers, washers, dryers, ovens, refrigerators, and ski areas. You can cross country ski out the front door and sled down the road, as there are only 2 houses on it. The ski hill is less than 10 minutes away. There are snowflakes on the floor that sparkle, and antler chandeliers to remind you of the wonders around you. You can enjoy the hot tub in the back yard and jump out of it into the snow banks. There is nothing like Montana and the comfort of our home. The biggest resort in the US , where kids ski for free is 4 miles away. You, too, may return every year for the rest of your life.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. Our group had great excursions into Yellowstone. We especially like the south river trail along the Grand Canyon. All of us enjoyed white water rafting on the Gallatin River. Fishing was fun, but did not catch very many. Next time we are going to get a guide. We will be back.

Memorable stay!

We LOVED this house! So roomy, beautifully decorated, quiet setting. It felt like home the moment we walked in. Big Sky is a fantastic town and the the kids had a blast fishing and checking out all the wildlife. Would definitely stay here again.

Very nice house

  • 4 of 5

We had a great family stay. The house is terrific but not quite big enough for seven couples.

great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful large house set up really well for our group of 23 people ranging from 11 months to Grandpa. We appreciated the many bathrooms and both laundry rooms. We cooked all meals in house and it worked great. More dining room table seating would be helpful, but we made do with a folding table purchased from Ace. Kitchen layout with the large pantry and two refrigerators worked well for a Suburban load of food from Costco for the entire week. We loved the heated garage to keep all of our snow gear in and as a place to suit up before going out to play. The house is situated on a quiet road and we were comfortable having the kids go outside sledding on the street. The owner was helpful and responded quickly to our questions. Overall very pleased and would happily go back.

Minnesota family

  • 5 of 5

This rental was the perfect place for our family of 22! The location was great for a variety of summer activities. There was good space for the individual families to spread out. Everything was in good order when we came and everyone felt at home during the week! Great choice for our family!

Family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived Jan 11, 2014 to a little slice of heaven! The house and its amenities is one of the most beautiful and functional properties we have stayed at. Big Sky itself is a wonderful ski resort with NO LIFT LINES! Shhhhhhhhhhh! Incredibly convenient location in one of the most wildly scenic places on earth Yellowstone! We spent a day snowmobiling and had a total blast. We enjoy a family ski vacation each year and have traveled all over the US, this property is our new fav! The most luxurious authentic property we have ever stayed at. The "hot tub time machine" is miraculous after a day on the slopes. The owners were fabulous to work with, were responsive and super friendly. Can not recommend a place any higher. Mema says it was the best!

Just Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Our families travelled from Minnesota to a family celebration with the Bozeman relatives. We had Great Grandma all the way down to the 3 year old. The house fit us all so well. We had everything we needed and then some. The great grand kids loved the saddle stools to sit and have their meals. The location was perfect for all our needs. Some wanted access to go to Bozeman or Yellowstone and some wanted the feeling of being away and in the mountains. Your house provided it all. The house was clean and well maintained. We all took the Ousel Falls hike which was so much fun and only a couple of miles away. I already have recommend this house to family and friends. We are skiiers and would like to visit this winter to celebrate our youngest sons High School Graduation.

We can't wait to see it in the snow! Thank you again for making memories for us and sharing your home.
