About the property

Studio Cabin queen log bed + futon couch, 1 Bath, Designed for 2 (Sleeps 2-4)

Historic hand-hewn Log Studio Cabin Rental nestled in a 5 acre cherry orchard with outstanding Flathead Lake views. Fully restored with antique furnishings. The cabin is located 15 miles south of Bigfork. The cabin is not located on the water, but is conveniently located about 1/2 mile from the Yellow Bay State Park. (Approx 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk) Designed for 2 people, this log cabin rental can accommodate up to 4 guests.

The great Covered Porch has rustic log posts that frame the incredible Flathead Lake and Wild Horse Island views. It is a short drive (or walk) to the Yellow Bay State Park, public beach and boat ramp. Peaceful and private in the Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana.

Built in 1932, this log cabin was hand hewn from trees taken to clear the surrounding cherry orchards. Built as a homesteader's cabin when the east lake shore was a very remote location with few families living at Yellow Bay, and the only access was via a 2-track dirt road.

The cabin has been completely restored, creating a warm cozy retreat with the charm of a by-gone era. Retaining the original logs, floors, windows and aged patina were very important, while adding all the modern amenities one would expect.

The cabin has a queen size log bed as well as a lay-down, futon-style couch and wood stove. Fully equipped kitchen & bath, and a covered porch with gas barbecue overlooking Flathead Lake. There is no tv or phone, which suits most guests just fine. But we do have wireless internet, and cell service is available.

We hope that you enjoy this little piece of Montana history. It is a very special place to us and to all our visitors from around the world.

Just like the website, only better!

We spent the week of our thirty year wedding anniversary here. We were greeted to a cabin that was spotless, well appointed and ready for our stay. My wife and I agree it was the best vacation we have ever taken and can't remember when we felt as relaxed as we did during those last few days of August and the first couple in September.

The cabin was comfortable, the views fantastic and a visit from a black bear, a family of wild turkeys and a whitetail doe with her two fawns presented photo opportunities to add to our album. In the evening we would settle in to the comfortable Adirondack chairs on the covered deck with a glass of wine and watch bats silhouetted against the last light of sunset as it faded into a star filled sky over Flathead lake. We played Scrabble (we never travel without it) on the table on the deck which is also where we ate all of our meals. Despite my best efforts to impair her Scrabble skills by the replenishing her wine glass, I was reminded that although we left the stress of our busy life behind us that week, she packed her A game and handily beat me repeatedly despite my best efforts. (I know how the Chicago Cubs feel.) For those who arrive without their own board game, there are some located in the cabin.

There was a wonderful family from Portland staying in the larger cabin to the north of us. My wife has recently taken up water color painting (she is obsessive about it, but that is just my observation) and she was beginning to suffer from withdrawal after not painting during our trip. It turned out the woman in the other cabin is a talented artist and brought a full set of acrylic paints and canvases which she shared with my wife. What are the odds?! We have stayed in touch with our new friends and meeting them was just one more item on a long list that made our trip so special.

Although we enjoyed several meals in the cabin, we found excellent local restaurants nearby in Kalispell and Bigfork where we met with friends who live in the area. We also enjoyed shopping for gifts in the town of Bigfork. Visitors need to make sure they check out the local shops where they will find unique, high quality art and souvenirs offered in a wide range of prices.

Our only complaint is that we had to return to the "real world" when our time was up! Thanks George for a wonderful experience!

Sincerely, George and Judy

Quaint cabin with spectacular view and proximity to Glacier National Park

  • 4 of 5

The view of Flathead Lake is what makes this property special. The cabin is a nice mix of old with some more modern touches (wifi, for example). I loved the working old fridge that reminded me of the one my Grandmother had. My only complaint is the website didn't mention the property had a coffee maker so we packed a French Press, but it turned out there was a coffee maker after all. Please update the site.

Wonderful cabin with breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the cabin - it is a beautiful spot in a great location. The cabin and property are very well appointed - perfectly rustic, yet extremely comfortable. The covered porch is perfect for morning coffee and a book overlooking the lake, and the wood stove heats the cabin very well.

Would not change a thing. Will most certainly be back for another visit some day!
