Curran House is on Maine St. in the village of Kennebunkport. It is an easy walk to the post office, the village center, library, shops and galleries, the village green and about a mile and a half to the Colony beach. Curran House has two bedrooms, one with a king bed, one with a queen and a single bed for a child. Downstairs is a living room, dining room, kitchen and full bath with a shower.
The house has a patio with a grill and a nice backyard with woods beyond. Maine St. is one of the prettiest streets in Kennebunkport with historic homes, tree shaded sidewalk and an historic library which was once a custom house for ship's bounty.
A few times daily a horse and buggy pass by Curran House touring guests viewing the highlights of Kennebunkport.
Next to our house is our large barn where our guests can store their bikes, kayaks and beach gear.
We provide maps of the area, lists of things to do, names of good local restaurants, beach passes and lots of books and magazines.
Jim and Harriet Gott are the owners of Curran House. this is the home that Jim Gott grew up in. His mother, Mary Curran left Ireland as a young woman and married a Maine man. Curran house is named for Jim's mother. This was her dream home when she became an American and it is the home she spent the rest of her life in.
Harriet Gott also grew up in Kennebunkport, not too far from Curran House. Jim is a many generation Maine native but Harriet's family moved here from New York state in the 1930s. Jim was a commercial fisherman for over 30 years and now Harriet and JIm own and run Bufflehead Cove inn in Lower Village. They have three adult children and four grandchildren.
Harriet Gott purchased this in 1939
This is a family home that has belonged to the Gott family since 1939. Jim and Harriet Gott have owned it for twenty years.
The best things about Curran house, not counting the family history and ties, are the perfect location on Maine street, the quaint neighborhood, the easy walk to the center of the village and the coziness and comfort of the house itself. The whole length of Maine street are period homes that were built in the 1700 and 1800s.
As soon as we walked in to this immaculate rental, we loved it. So cozy, old, and all the basics we could need. Nice kitchen. The owners went right out and replaced the missing lobster crackers for our lobster dinner one night. Comfortable bed. We felt right at home. The stairs are steep so one must be careful. Loved walking in the mornings down the short walk into Dock Square to get the paper. My husband and I would definitely rent this again.
A comfortable, clean, classic Maine cape located close enough to the town center, yet still feels private and not touristy. The house is tastefully decorated, with a well equipped kitchen, and Harriet and Jim were accommodating and friendly proprietors. My family enjoyed being able to walk into the sweet shopping area, which is quaint with many wonderful restaurant options, easily ride bikes to two nearby beaches, and plenty of sidewalks for pretty early morning runs. This will be our go to rental for years to come!
I highly reccomend this weekly summer rental...a quintessential New Englander with wide pine floors and lots of charm, great layout, and a perfect location for those who want to be within a short walk of Dock Square, Colony Beach, and area amenities. You definitely get your money's worth, and the owners are very gracious and helpful to! I enjoyed staying here very much, and would rent this home again without hesitation.
Kennebunkport is the summer home of President George Bush and his family. The village has a shipping history that goes back to the 1700s and beautiful old architecture. Kennebunkport is on a tidal river that flows out to sea and it has two protected ports: the Kennebunk river and Cape Porpoise harbor. Fishing, lobster and pleasure boats fill the river and harbor.
There are miles of sandy beaches, a rocky coast with beautiful coastal walks and roads, summer theater, art galleries, chic shops, lots of restaurants, antiques and a quaint old village. There are two golf courses to choose from and many tennis courts.
Other Activities: art galleries and studios
