Quintessential western, mountain town!

  • 5 of 5

Do not be misled by the nasty review. This little place was quaint, clean, stocked, safe. No, you can't go directly into the river...duh. But your little deck looks out over it. The history of Gardiner and its place in the beginnings of Yellowstone make this a perfect base. Its a small western town, so no, its not an environment like some upscale city or suburb. Keep in mind it does not have a subscribed tv service, so if you must watch something, bring something that you can hook into the hdmi tv. But hey, we actually enjoyed unplugging from all that fake news for four nights. Perfect location! Wendy stayed in touch at any time. Again, you have to experience Gardiner to understand, but we never, ever felt like it was unsafe or loud or rowdy. Loved it.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our little family of 3 had a wonderful time at the Eagles nest. It was perfect size for us to relax after a day exploring Yellowstone. Our daughter loved the bunk room and we stayed in the other lower bedroom. The loft bedroom seemed to get a tad warm (and my husband is picky on temperture$. Highly recommend a stay here!

DO NOT BOOK HERE - please read review

  • 1 of 5

First, let me be very clear that this is not a good place to stay and the reviews are misleading. The owner decides who gets the link to post reviews after the stay - I was not given the option to post a review because she knew how unhappy we were. Only after several calls to the VRBO support line was I able to get my review posted.

The photos suggest that this is a private cabin - this is not the case. The cabin is located in a strip of small cabins clustered together in an alley behind a carwash and a several town bars. The only door is a sliding glass door which was broken for our stay. At one point we were trapped inside. Most of the windows are sealed shut, so the bedrooms are incredibly stuffy with no options for opening a window, especially because the space is VERY small. There was no hot water, so our showers were cold. The one window that did open in the loft, faced the alley. When the bars closed late at night there were several party-goers outside the window being loud and smoking, so the whole house smelled of cigarette smoke. Then, a garbage truck came around 5am to collect all of the garbage in the alley for the cabins and businesses. From what I could see, the strip of cabins share the one deck/path for access and people were walking right outside our windows. The cabin is close to the river, but the bank is so steep that you can't actually access the river at all. And it is not quiet or peaceful because of the noisy bars, neighbors and alley. I did not feel safe with my children and we left after the first night. The owner refused to refund us for the stay, despite the issues described here. I consider this "cabin" to be completely unlivable. Although it is close to the entrance to the park, there are so many other properties to chose from, do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.

Owner's Response: In our ten years of renting this cabin we have never received major complaints, nor have we had a guest choose to leave. Each guest leading up to Jenne's stay this summer left happy reviews in our onsite guest book. The Eagles Nest cabin, along with the Mtn King Cabin and the Grizzly Den cabin have repeat guests each year. As stated in the posting, this cabin is located in town within walking distance to food and gift shops, as are all of the hotels and other in-town rentals. Gardiner is a small, unincorporated town in Montana...and it is real. That is the charm for most guests. Travelers wishing for a more remote lodging experience and a lot of elbow room will be happier elsewhere--- to most guests this is clear upon reading the description of the location and of the cabin itself. As stated in our cancellation policy, it is non-refundable within 30 days of the stay. We do try to work with families in case of unexpected emergencies. This guest wanted to leave with a full refund; as stated to them that is not possible as our family depends on the income of our cabins. The Eagles Nest Cabin is rented near solidly each season. They chose to leave and then contested the charge to their credit card company, shorting us of nearly $1000. We firmly believe we do a good job of catering to our guests because we want you to enjoy your vacation and we know that both us and our staff depend on your business for our livelihood. Rest assured that if and when small maintenance issues arise we work to resolve them quickly and, where due, compensate you accordingly. The only truth in this review is that the hot water heater did need to be reset (water had been fine that morning as previous guests checked out). When notified that showers had been cold, we had the issue fixed by maintenance within a few hours. Please "throw-out" this review and instead place value on the many others who love our cabin's charm and close proximity to Yellowstone. We have no ability to control what is said in reviews and all are posted. The Eagles Nest is as it says, clean, bright, and cozy! We remain proud to host you.

Very Small - No TV

  • 3 of 5

My family of 4 stayed in this cabin in late July 2017.

- The cabin is very small, like a tiny house without all the clever storage solutions. There is no space in this cabin to put your stuff. No dressers, very few tables, etc - so plan to be pretty disorganized.

- There was physically a TV in the cabin but it did not have any cable. It had an HDTV box but we did not have the cable for it and one was not supplied. There was also a DVD player but it was broken. We did call the owner about this and never received a call back.

- The pictures on VBRO make the river look accessible - it is not. There is steep incline and no dock or anything.

- Be careful with the top bunk bed. It was built close to the ceiling and there is a beam running across it. Could easily hit your head if you sleep at the wrong end.

- The view is scenic and we enjoyed sitting on the tiny deck.

- Laundry facilities are next door. It is nice that there are multiple washers and dryers. makes the chore of laundry move faster.

- The cabin was clean and the kids enjoyed the whole loft thing.

- Located close to everything and restaurants are in easy walking distance.

- Yellow Stone entrance is very close and the town is pretty quiet.

While we would not stay in this cabin again, it is a good size for 2 people. You could use the bunk beds for your luggage and probably be comfortable. 2 people max would be my recommendation.

Cozy 4 day - family stay

  • 4 of 5

Cabin is cozy but not too crowded for a family of four. With careful planning all of the bathroom amenities can be used without a problem as the bathroom is small. Kitchen is small with little counter or storage space. The view of the Yellowstone River is great but river access is not feasible. The porch has a small table and chairs as well as a gas grill. We never attempted to use the grill. The cabin is in an alley behind store fronts that face the Main Street. The cabin is cozy and the view of the river is good but overall the already cramped cabin is cramped on the outside as well. The cabin is close to all things Gardiner, which is nice. The market is within walking distance.

Great view

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is a charming tiny house. We liked that we were able to experience the tiny house thing. The view from the cabin and deck are the fantastic. There was a little snafu when we arrived but it was quickly fixed with multiple apologies. Everyone was very kind. Great location for seeing the North side of Yellowstone. Worked out perfectly for our needs. The upstairs loft does get a bit hot. It didn't bother me but my husband got hot. I was fine with the windows open. Everyone is different in regards to temperature.
