Bienvenidos! Relax and enjoy “Baja time” at Casa de Las Palmas, a private, gated beachfront estate located on the beautiful blue Sea of Cortez in Baja, Mexico. The villa is situated on over an acre of land in a quiet, convenient neighborhood that is a 5-minute trip by car or quad to the center of Los Barriles.
With 6-bedrooms and 5,500 square feet of living space, Casa de Las Palmas is one of the largest beachfront homes in Los Barriles and is perfect for large or small groups. We invite you to enjoy, relax, and unwind at our roomy family-friendly compound that sits on the edge of a white, sandy beach where you can swim, snorkel, kayak, fish, or paddleboard.
The beautifully designed heated pool and spa with a lush landscaped deck area is fully fenced, gated, and protected with child-safety locks, an added benefit for families with small children. The pool area was designed to be enjoyed year-round and is protected and out of the wind, which is especially nice during the cooler winter months!
As you enter the arched doors of the large, airy great room, your first sight is a gorgeous view of the Sea of Cortez framed by arched porticos and swaying palm trees. An extensive remodel in 2009 continued the elegant style of a sprawling single level traditional Spanish hacienda with private patios, outdoor seating areas, and large verandas with spacious dining areas. A wall of sliding glass doors on the beach side afford views of the sea from anywhere in the room.
One side of the great room has a large, well-equipped modern kitchen with a dining area that seats 12 or more. Comfortable couches, chairs, and a game table provide a separate conversation area at the other end of the room where you can enjoy major channels on the satellite TV. Equipped with a DVD player, an Xbox, and connection for computer to television, everyone is sure to be satisfied. Connect to high-speed internet anywhere throughout the property, including the pool area and outdoor verandas.
The main house has four bedrooms (perfect for a smaller group) with the two Casita bedrooms just across the courtyard. The house comfortably sleeps 12 - 16 people yet still provides privacy if desired. The bedrooms are furnished with king or queen beds and all have private baths, other than two bedrooms which share a large Jack n’ Jill bath.
At Casa de Las Palmas, our fantastic staff will satisfy your every need. We have chefs who are available to cook for you on a daily or nightly basis. Traditional Mexican flavors combined with flame-grilled steaks, BBQ ribs, or grilled shrimp are always a favorite!
Max handles our transportation and is one of several English-speaking drivers who can provide you and your group round-trip airport transportation in large, air-conditioned passenger vans. You will arrive relaxed and ready to start your vacation at the Casa.
Tere and Lugarda are your housekeepers during your stay and come to the house on a daily basis to keep everything neat and tidy. Rene, our gardener and caretaker, maintains the property and grounds in an impeccable picture-perfect state while Beto keeps the pool in pristine condition.
As you sip your morning coffee on the veranda, you may catch sight of whales and their calves passing by, rays leaping out of the sea as they try to fly, or a school of porpoise traveling through. You will experience spectacular sunrises over the Sea of Cortez, as well as enjoying fabulous food and great conversation with family and friends under the starry night skies. The activity in and on the sea is non-stop and will provide daily thrills and excitement for everyone.
Before you know it, you will be in “Baja time” – a slower paced lifestyle where the days slip one into the next and daily cares become less important, where people are friendly, and life goes at its own pace. Remember, there is always mañana . . . so come enjoy, relax, and create memories of a lifetime at your home away from home . . . Casa de Las Palmas.
4-bedroom rates cannot be calculated with VRBO. Please email me for a detailed quote.
The villa with all amenities is available on a weekly basis (4-night minimum stay) or for up to a month. You will find several excellent restaurants in Los Barriles, a Saturday market with organic fruits, veggies, and fresh baked goods, a deli, grocery stores, and tourist shopping just five-minutes away in town. With all of the modern conveniences available, Los Barriles still maintains the quaint charm of a small fishing village, which you are sure to love. Your hosts live year round in town and are more than happy to help you plan everything to make your time here as perfect and stress-free as possible.
ATV’s and 2- or 4-seater side-by-sides are a great way to get around town and “live like a local.” (Ask about the discounts available to our guests.) These vehicles provide adventurous rides up the arroyos to picturesque waterfalls.
In an excellent area known for big game fishing for marlin, sailfish, yellow fin tuna, and Dorado, there are many boats and crew available for day trips. We will be glad to recommend our personal favorites.
Drivers and vans are also available for day trips, shopping, or other excursions. A day trip to Cabo Pulmo, a national marine park with one of the most beautiful reefs, is a great place for a picnic lunch where you can swim and snorkel with the sea lions and the many diverse species that inhabit the reef.
During the months of December through late February/early March, kiteboarding and wind surfing are the sports “du jour” due to the on-shore north winds. A short walk south from the house will take you to ExotiKite Kiteboarding School whose friendly, experienced instructors are all IKO trained and certified. All gear and equipment can be rented through them and your personal instructor will have you up and riding the wind and waves in no time.

We love the area, the weather, and the warmth and friendliness of the people here. We are fortunate to have found such a lovely property and are happy to share it with you and your family!
Our home is 'front row' - on the beach! With all of the activities that come with that - dolphins leaping, whales breaching, fish jumping, gorgeous sunrises, privacy, space, private heated pool with spa, and all the tranquility that comes with staying at your own private retreat . . . on the beach.
We had a wonderful time staying at your house. The house, the veranda, the grounds, the pool, the electronic stuff were all first class. All the people that work with you were great. Kathy, Mac, Ian, Max, Lupe and Lucia, and the house keepers and gardeners were all extremely helpful. The food was fabulous. Lupe and Lucia brought their children by to meet us all on the last evening of the Yoga retreat. Several of us arranged a trip to Santiago with Max. He took us to the Zoo, the church and the waterfall, and we had lunch at the hotel int the garden. Kaaren took a two hour paddle board lesson with Peter Boot, one of your neighbors who lives several doors away down the beach. I fly fished up and down the beach. Caught some needle fish and and one rooster fish. Another day we went on a snorkeling trip up past Punta Pescadero to the "narco hotel" area and we had lunch at the hotel at Bahia de los Suenos. A lot of the hotel's electric and water was destroyed by the hurricane, but they were still able to feed us.
We are sending a link to flicker, where there is a slide show of photos that were taken by one of our class mates at the Yoga retreat. http://www.flickr.com/photos/10323204@N02/sets/72157631940204152/show/
We appreciate how hard you work to make this all happen. And we hope at some time in the future to come back to Los Barriles again.
A Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours,
Kaaren and Joe
Casa de Las Palmas really was our own beachfront estate for a week. The location, the home, the facilities, that cooking staff (well worth it! ) Everything was first rate! Mary made sure we had everything we wanted, and arranged what was needed. Our only regret was that we stayed 1 week and not 2! Sea Turtles hatching next door, ATV's to get around town and on the beach, kitesurfing, deep sea fishing, snorkelling, swimming pool, hot tub, all meals outside under the stars, perfect weather, great little town, it was a most excellent get away.
I have been offering small yoga retreats(6-12 students) at Casa de las Palmas for the past five years. Every single guest that I have brought with me has gushed at the atmosphere. It is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. Mary has created such a unique home. Besides the perfect location, with the amazing view, the bedrooms provide a lot of privacy and can host singles, couples and families. The pool and hot tub are such a treat. It can get windy in Los Barriles. The pool is shielded from the wind and can provide a nice option when the beach is too windy. And the hot tub is great in the late afternoon. It is such a sanctuary to relax in the hot tub while hummingbirds feed on the many flowers in the poolside gardens. I could not have asked for a better home to rent, and will continue to come down every year. You cannot go wrong with this house. It is great for groups wanting to get away together.
My family and friends (4 adults and 4 children under the age of 7) just had another wonderful trip at Casa de las Palmas. We particularly enjoyed the chef provided meals for lunch and dinner (slightly more cost, but completely worth it - - - world class food) as well as the attention to detail of the home for our needs (helped arrange fishing trip and also ATVs for us to tour the amazing country around the home, also found paddle boards for us to exercise and explore). Our kids loved the pool, and really enjoyed the collection of vintage Disney VHS tapes (they had never seen several of the shows, and the adults got nostalgic too -- great to have a way for kids to rest after so much fun in sun).
We will certainly be back!
17(13 adults and 4 kids) of us converged at Casa de las Palmas to celebrate my moms birthday. All I can say is wow, this was one of the best vacations I've ever been on. The pictures do NOT do the place justice. It is an incredible place that easily handled our large group. The way the bedrooms are separated from the main great room allows the folks that stay up later than others to enjoy and not worry about disturbing anybody. Some people would hang by the pool, others would head to the beach, and if the hammock was open you could chill there. We opted to have our dinners cooked by Rogelio and his assistant. The meals were unbelievable! We had Mexican dishes the first 4 nights and then we gave him free reign to make what ever he wanted. Outside of choosing this house, it was one of the best decisions we made.
Now let's talk about Mary which is another reason to choose this house. I was the coordinator of our large group and worked with Mary on everything from Round trip airport transportation(Max), stocking of the house with food and beverages before we got there, lining up the cook and menu, getting a 4 seat quad for people to take turns using, reserving a snorkel trip with Claire and Simon down to Cabo Pulmo, and on and on. Lets just say that I felt like I knew Mary before I even got there. Mary is very well connected with the community and can help with anything while you are there. She would email me once in a while to make sure everything was going well. She is what makes this place special.
In closing, if you are comparing properties with this one there is no comparison. I really don't know how you could do any better. We'll be back!
I stayed at Casa de las Palmas at the end of August 2015 with close friends. Friends from college, we were turning 40 in 2015 and a great friend of mine, whose dad is friends with the home owner, Mary, was turning 40 in August, so we booked the house to celebrate and vacation. I could not have dreamt of a better vacation. From the fishing and quads/side x side excursions to just enjoying and relaxing at the house we had an amazing vacation.
June, 2016, I just wrapped up my second vacation to Casa de Las Palmas with the same friends. Again, had an unbelievable time. The house/property is gorgeous. It's completely gated, so great for families with kids. Located on the beach, the ocean view from sunrise, through the day to sunset is.......well there are no words to describe.
The property itself is expertly manicured and maintained. The property has a beautiful pool and between the backyard (facing the ocean) and the pool, my friends and I spent much time just relaxing and enjoying our vacation. In addition, the ocean was as calm as a lake. Also, there is a band of rocks, close to shore that is great for snorkeling. Provided is snorkeling gear as well as 2 person kayaks and SUPs to enjoy the ocean. Throughout the days, depending on time of year, we observed, far out, whales, manta rays, bill fish, etc. jumping out of the water. Very cool to witness.
For excursions, Mary has great relationships with local businesses and can assist with making recommendations. Fishings been great and between the two trips. We landed Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Grouper, Dorado and billfish. The snorkeling excursion Mary helped set up was also amazing. Her contact picked us up from the house and drove us to Cabo Pulmo, a spectacular snorkeling/diving reef. We saw a great variety of tropical fish, followed a school of 10's of thousands of Big Eyed Jack (indescribable experience), snorkeled with sea lions, and followed sea turtles. 4 snorkeling stops in all.
As for dining, not even a debate. Book Mary's chef. As foodies he exceeded all our expectations. We hired him for breakfast and dinner. We also brought him our fishing catch and he prepared out of this world sashimi.
Mary is simply awesome. She works tirelessy to ensure an amazing vacation. Living in Los Barilles, Mary has a finger on the pulse of the town. Essential for networking to provide the best excursions and be hands on to welcome guests to a beautiful home.
Last week our family was delighted with the week spent at Casa de Las Palmas. The property is located on a beautiful, sandy beach and includes everything needed to enjoy the water. In addition the pool and spa area was a great hit with everyone, especially the 2 year old. This beautiful home also has a well appointed kitchen and outdoor BBQ area. The family enjoyed bonding over dinners including the delicious welcome dinner provided by our ever accommodating host, Mary. The outdoor and indoor dining areas had more than enough room for our family of 15. If you are not in the mood to cook there is also a great restaurant near the home. Our family had a reunion at this beautiful home 5 years ago and would go back more often if schedules allowed for it. Although my husband and I have a home in Los Barriles, we cannot accommodate the family comfortably in one place. Casa de Las Palmas was an ideal property for our group, with the 6 well appointed bedrooms providing just the room we needed. Mary also provided a pack and play and high chair which made life so much easier for the parents. The home also comes with a most views of magnificent sunrises, dolphins, flying rays, and other sea life. We highly recommend a stay at Casa de Las Palmas.
Kayaking, fishing, ATV riding through the arroyos and to the waterfalls, kite boarding, surfing, stand-up paddle boards, mountain hiking, zip lines, and more...
