About Tine & René
Geckoes is owned and managed by husband and wife team, Tom Keller & Zoë Courtier. With backgrounds in hospitality education and tourism and extensive international experience we decided it was time for a new adventure. Ably assisted by caretaker team Jose & Neris, Geckoes Lodge is the culmination of a two year project to create private and luxurious holiday accommodation whilst maintaining the beauty and minimising the impact on the surrounding rainforest and its inhabitants. Geckoes was so named to symbolise the symbiotic relationship possible between wildlife and humans. With a commitment to Sustainable development, eco-friendly practices and environmental consciousness our operating practices and the houses have been designed to fit the landscape rather than vice versa. We look forward to welcoming you at Geckoes and helping to make your holiday unforgettable.

Why Tine & René chose Cocles
The Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica is for us the perfect place to be. Here we have everything we could wish for; a spectacular property, beautiful nature, a warm sea and a fantastic climate. What we don't have is high-rise buildings and big developments but instead, plenty of individually owned restaurants and businesses with a great mix of nationalities. At Geckoes you can feel 'away from it all' yet be within easy reach of all amenities. It's a place to unwind, relax, enjoy the spectacular rainforest surroundings and wildlife.
What makes this Villa unique
Being just 1km off the main road, we can feel as if we are miles from anywhere but in fact we are within easy reach of everything. World-class beaches and marvellous and affordable restaurants are just around the corner. This is what most people would consider living the Caribbean life but we have the rainforest as well! With the rainforest comes the wildlife and we regularly see Howler monkeys, toucans, parrots and the magnificent Blue Morpho butterflies from our veranda. Geckoes is a gorgeous piece of rainforest that we are lucky enough to be able to call Home. We look forward to sharing this remarkable place with you.

Truly beautiful property, great privacy
Our stay was absolutely lovely. We were able to be completely independent, even with the owner's home being on the same property, there was plenty of seclusion. The owners' son alerted us to a nest with baby hummingbirds and a sloth on the property, which we enjoyed visiting several times. Owners were very friendly but not obtrusive, they completely left us on our own other than stopping by to welcome us briefly on the night of our arrival and a few brief interactions - they even brought us fresh bread on our first morning. Here, you are surrounded by gorgeous, lush jungle flora and the most amazing sounds all day & night - toucans, howler monkeys (though we never saw one) and lots of wildlife. Strolling along the driveway alone was just stunning. We barely left the property except to go out for meals. The jungle is constantly dropping debris into the plunge pool but that's just how it is, it didn't bother us, and they have someone come every day to skim the pool and perform housekeeping, which exceeded our expectations. The home is extremely well built. The bedroom was spacious and romantic with a huge, separate closet/dressing area. The kitchen had all the basics. The living and kitchen area is completely open but stays dry even during the fantastic downpours we experienced each night. The bathroom had a big shower but no hot water, which is no problem for me but my husband couldn't handle it. The owner came and serviced the hot water heater but it only sent hot water to the kitchen sink. There is little that could improve on this vacation rental except for maybe a second hammock (or sofa) as the hammock wasn't big enough for two and I felt guilty enjoying it while my husband sat in a chair reading his book LOL, and maybe a couple more towels as things don't dry too quickly in the rainforest. We had asked the owner ahead of time if we could arrange for massages at home (I didn't want to invite anyone over without their approval) but they never followed up on that. After a few days, we discovered a folder with a bunch of info on things do, including a spa. You'll definitely want a 4x4 vehicle for the road and driveway, it's about a 10 min drive into Puerto Viejo - best meals we had were at Soda Lidia and breakfast at Bread & Chocolate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this rental, our stay was stellar. These will be fond memories for a lifetime.
Thank you for your kind words. We're glad you enjoyed your stay.
I'm sorry about the hot water in the shower - we were not aware of that and will surely see to it!
Quiet and secluded house with fantastic views
Stayed in Casa Del Bosque. Four nights and had a wonderful time. Secluded and quiet in a fantastic setting. Recommend for couples. Tom and Zoe have a fantastic property to offer.
Quiet Luxury in Puerto
Geckoes Lodge is absolutely stunning! We stayed seven nights in the one bedroom house, Casa Del Bosque.
The Property: The houses are all set apart throughout the lush grounds of the property and you really do feel like you have the place all to yourselves. The landscaping is well cared for but not overly manicured with well placed and beautiful flowers, palms, and tropical trees surrounding the houses. This allows wildlife to be near the houses so you can see howler monkeys, birds and lizards from your patio. Tom and Zoe have managed to strike a wonderful balance between the sterility of some large resorts and the 'carved from the jungle' feel of some cheaper places.
The house: The house was immaculate when we arrived. It has just enough space for two to be comfortable and cozy yet not on top of each other should you be rained in. There are hammocks hung for reading in, a comfortable couch and chairs and a dinning table in the living area. The kitchen has a gas cooktop, a full sized fridge and most of the cooking wares and utensils you would need to do about anything.
One caveat is the lodge is not directly on the beach rather around 1 Km away so this is not the place for you if you just want to step out of your room and onto the sand. The advantage to this is you are not near the busy and noisy coastal road so you really are secluded and in the quiet of the jungle. I would recommend renting bikes, a scooter, or planning your day around the 30 minute walk into town.
The Food: The great thing about having a kitchen on hand is not needing to eat out every meal. To that end, there are several markets in town with a pretty wide selection. We frequently bought fresh fish at Mopri's. There are also many good restaurants in town with an array of choices, we recommend Caribeans at Om Cafe, Lazlo's and Veronica's Cafe.
Activities: We recommend the Chocolate tour at Caribeans, Zip-lining with Terradventures, and the Jaguar Rescue Center. All great fun.
