The Neighborhood:

Bedford-Stuvesant has become the hottest part of Brooklyn. So many exciting new restaurants and cafes are opening up that it's hard to keep up with the changes. Beautiful historical neighborhood with a trendy young spirit. Safe, quiet, vibrant and super friendly. Make sure you visit our local farmer's market

Recent NY Times review of the neighborhood sums up the essence of this stunning, vibrant and constantly changing historical neighborhood.

Located in the historic district of Bedford-Stuyvesant; today a vibrant urban Caribbean/African American community (sandwiched in between the fascinating Hasidic areas of Crown Heights and Williamsburg), only 15 minutes from the Barclay Center, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens/Zoo & Museum of Art. Nowhere else can you find such luxurious, spacious living, in the heart of New York City and only a 20 minute subway ride to Greenwich Village. the neighborhood is quiet, neighbors are warm and very friendly and you will find an abundance of fresh fruit, seafood, meat and grocery stores -- New local restaurants and coffee shops are cropping up everyday and lines wrap around the block for famous new establishments, Peaches and (vegetarian) Saraghina. Fashionable Fort Greene and Williamsburg are only minutes away on foot, by bus or subway and home to some of today's best bars and restaurants in Brooklyn

Read a Letter from a Recent Happy Guest: 'Our stay in NY and in your House were great! We really enjoyed the house and we were so happy we were not in Manhatten. We especially loved your kitchen. This was the place we sat in or in the garden. Lovely to sit there in the morning with a coffee. We also met Sylvia (neighbor) and Hannibal (her dog). We never used the sitting room because we had great weather all week.

Everything you told me about the house was right. No surprises or disappointments. It's a house with great character and we also liked the neighborhood. Nice people everywhere".

Very cool Victorian home and perfect hostess

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect!!! Through the years I have stayed at many home rentals throughout the country and so far, this was my favorite! Ruty supplies every amenity one could need. The house was immaculate and the neighbors were so very friendly and helpful! Most of the week, we spent in the city. But the one day that we stayed and roamed in the neighborhood was by far my favorite day! So many cool little restaurants and shops! I plan on coming here again, if Ruty would have us. Perfect at Christmas time! Ruty and her neighbors were so attentive to our needs, couldn’t have asked for a better group of hostesess!! Thank you Sylvia and Dia and especially Ruty!

Large and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

There were six of us: grandmother, grandfather, mom, dad, and two kids under age 10. We had plenty of room. Closets, storage, extra bedding, extra mattresses, etc. We did not need anything. I've read other reviews about the house being creaky and a bit shabby, and that is true, but it's a perfectly restored old house in Brooklyn. If you want a sterile, encapsulated environment, go to a hotel or a high rise. If you want to feel like you live in Brooklyn, stay here. We drove a Chevy Suburban from New Orleans and never had trouble with parking. An added bonus was that there is a fire hydrant right in front of the house, giving us a permanent space for loading and unloading. The owner is quick to respond and very amenable. Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful home in a fun neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

Our Bed-Sty home away from home was perfect for our trip to NYC!

The home is so special with all of the original woodwork, fireplaces, high ceilings and tall doors.

It was a beautiful spot to return to after our busy days in the city! The neighborhood is perfectly walk able and offered just the right restaurants, grocery stores and coffee shops to start and end our days.

Communications with Ruty and Dia were easy and they were exceptionally responsive before, during and after our stay.

In short, it was a pleasure!

Excellent place for us to stay - had all we needed

  • 5 of 5

We had our 2 daughters, their husbands and our 2 granddaughters join us for a late holiday gathering. We wanted to have a home to "hang out at" and do some tourist type things as well. It was the perfect setting for having a 2 month and a 4 month old baby. We each had our own, very nice sized bedroom. Our only wish/recommendation would be to have the kitchen area bigger and maybe consider having more "cozy" chairs in the living room/library area. This was very clean. The stairs (3 stories) are steep so we were very careful carrying babies up and down. Everything was in working order. We heard the sirens, etc. occasionally outside but this house is very quiet. We love old historic places! Regarding the local shops - there were delightful neighborhoods/shops only blocks away! It was easy to access the subway to go to Time Square, etc. We all love walking so a few blocks was no big deal! Thanks, Ruty! Great time was had by all and we all came away well-rested and reflecting on the good time we had catching up with each other!

Spacious and unique!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in this lovely Brownstone. We kept finding delightful architectural surprises every time we looked up or turned a corner. Ruty answered all of our questions and was very easy to work with. The neighbor next door and Dia, who lived upstairs, were very sweet and attentive. One of the nights it snowed and we were cold but once I mentioned this to Dia, it was remedied immediately. Five of us stayed there and there was plenty of room. The beds and pillows were comfortable. I slept on the air mattress because I have some joint pain and it was perfect. We spent 1 day wandering around Brooklyn and two in Manhattan. We went to Peaches Hothouse, the restaurant that Ruty recommended, for Brunch on Sunday. We were seated immediately, service was prompt and food was delicious. I highly recommend this home!
