The Neighborhood:

Bedford-Stuvesant has become the hottest part of Brooklyn. So many exciting new restaurants and cafes are opening up that it's hard to keep up with the changes. Beautiful historical neighborhood with a trendy young spirit. Safe, quiet, vibrant and super friendly. Make sure you visit our local farmer's market

Recent NY Times review of the neighborhood sums up the essence of this stunning, vibrant and constantly changing historical neighborhood.

Located in the historic district of Bedford-Stuyvesant; today a vibrant urban Caribbean/African American community (sandwiched in between the fascinating Hasidic areas of Crown Heights and Williamsburg), only 15 minutes from the Barclay Center, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens/Zoo & Museum of Art. Nowhere else can you find such luxurious, spacious living, in the heart of New York City and only a 20 minute subway ride to Greenwich Village. the neighborhood is quiet, neighbors are warm and very friendly and you will find an abundance of fresh fruit, seafood, meat and grocery stores -- New local restaurants and coffee shops are cropping up everyday and lines wrap around the block for famous new establishments, Peaches and (vegetarian) Saraghina. Fashionable Fort Greene and Williamsburg are only minutes away on foot, by bus or subway and home to some of today's best bars and restaurants in Brooklyn

Read a Letter from a Recent Happy Guest: 'Our stay in NY and in your House were great! We really enjoyed the house and we were so happy we were not in Manhatten. We especially loved your kitchen. This was the place we sat in or in the garden. Lovely to sit there in the morning with a coffee. We also met Sylvia (neighbor) and Hannibal (her dog). We never used the sitting room because we had great weather all week.

Everything you told me about the house was right. No surprises or disappointments. It's a house with great character and we also liked the neighborhood. Nice people everywhere".

Loved our stay in the Brooklyn brownstone

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful brownstone. Ruty was easy to work with and was very accommodating. We enjoyed the space and especially the backyard when having coffee in the morning. The house was in a good location with easy access to the subway. I've always wanted to stay in a brownstone and this did not disappoint. The only word of caution is the steep steps leading to each bedroom. We had no problem but it might be a challenge for an elderly person.

Staying in a historic 1901 Brownstone was one of the highlights of our trip!

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous property! I stayed with my sister and two 14 year olds from a super small town so the neighborhood was a bit of a culture shock for them but they got used to it quickly. Lots of people milling about in the area at all hours (welcome to NY!) - but we felt safe and there are hefty security doors and windows to help with that as well. We didn't spend much time shopping in the area but we did enjoy walking around and seeing all the Brownstones. It's becoming a trendy area and I believe they have the largest number of them. Subway was very close and extremely convenient (feel free to ask pretty much anyone for help). Dia, who lives in the 4th floor apartment, was wonderful! We didn't see her often but she was very helpful and available when needed (and the girls adored her). We did have one incident at night where someone was banging on the windows in the middle of the night in the street level bedroom. It was likely someone who got the wrong house (my sister tried opening the door to the neighbors' house one night...so I imagine it happens from time to time especially when the homes look so familiar) so it wasn't a big issue - but it may have frightened the girls if they were staying down there. Dia said they've never had that happen before - so might just be something to consider if you have younger children or more timid guests. Amenities were great - nothing was lacking and property was very clean. We stayed in July so it was pretty warm. No central air but most rooms (all bedrooms) have portable air conditioners and they work well but take a bit to cool down a whole room. We turned them on as soon as we got back from our excursions so they had time to cool the place down before bed - and we made full use of the many circular fans to keep the cool air circulating. Don't skip the back patio - it was full of fireflies and quite magical! Overall it was an amazing experience and I am so glad we skipped the generic hotel room and chose to make where we stayed one of the highlights of our trip!

Beautiful brownstone

  • 4 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay here. Ruty was responsive to any question I had and even though we arrived in the wee hours of the morning, Dia (the 4th floor tenant), was there to greet us and show us around. Really very kind.

Amenities were exactly what we needed and we enjoyed coffee in the nice patio in the back yard in the morning.

It really is located in a neat neighborhood. Had to be alert when walking at night, but that's not unusual anywhere anymore.

Subway was just a few blocks away and there were many delicious restaurants within just a few minutes' walk.

Our group included my daughter, my friend and her daughter and a couple of their friends (ages 16-20). We all loved this place!

Just as it looks....

  • 4 of 5

The space in the house was great for four women, especially having two full baths. We didn't use the kitchen for real cooking but we sure could have. The bedrooms are very large and the beds are comfortable. A lot of space for the cost! Ruty was very easy to communicate with and it was reassuring to have Sylvia next door and Dia upstairs if we had needed them. We were there four nights and never saw Dia and only heard her once.

The neighborhood is as promised, not a posh Brooklyn area but transitional and friendly. We usually found it easiest to walk to the Nostrand train station and take the A since it is an express. The local C that is closer at Kingston-Throop has lots of stops.

We did both cab and Uber from LGA and they were $39 and $42.

Ate at Peaches - good - and a reasonable walk from the house. Check out

Chickies General Store on Tompkins.

Thanks for our NYC experience Ruty.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful, true to its description and perfect for a family or a few couples. The location is great if you don't want to be in right in the city and intend to explore other areas. We rode the subway everywhere and it was very easy and accessible.

Excellent Rental Property

  • 5 of 5

This house was beautiful - exactly as seen on photos. We stayed for six nights. Rooms were large and spacious with every home comfort. Kitchen fully supplied with everything we needed. Lots of extra towels, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls etc. The area felt safe - lots of takeaways, grocery shops/supermarkets. There were two or three nice restaurants - we loved Saraghina Pizzeria! Subway journey to other areas/Manhattan a short walk away - about half an hour to Times Square. We purchased a weekly subway/bus ticket for $34 which was a bargain and was well used.

Would happily recommend this property. Ruty was a delight to converse with and answered emails quickly. Security deposit returned very promptly on the day we got home.

Thanks for a great week Ruty!
