The Neighborhood:

Bedford-Stuvesant has become the hottest part of Brooklyn. So many exciting new restaurants and cafes are opening up that it's hard to keep up with the changes. Beautiful historical neighborhood with a trendy young spirit. Safe, quiet, vibrant and super friendly. Make sure you visit our local farmer's market

Recent NY Times review of the neighborhood sums up the essence of this stunning, vibrant and constantly changing historical neighborhood.

Located in the historic district of Bedford-Stuyvesant; today a vibrant urban Caribbean/African American community (sandwiched in between the fascinating Hasidic areas of Crown Heights and Williamsburg), only 15 minutes from the Barclay Center, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens/Zoo & Museum of Art. Nowhere else can you find such luxurious, spacious living, in the heart of New York City and only a 20 minute subway ride to Greenwich Village. the neighborhood is quiet, neighbors are warm and very friendly and you will find an abundance of fresh fruit, seafood, meat and grocery stores -- New local restaurants and coffee shops are cropping up everyday and lines wrap around the block for famous new establishments, Peaches and (vegetarian) Saraghina. Fashionable Fort Greene and Williamsburg are only minutes away on foot, by bus or subway and home to some of today's best bars and restaurants in Brooklyn

Read a Letter from a Recent Happy Guest: 'Our stay in NY and in your House were great! We really enjoyed the house and we were so happy we were not in Manhatten. We especially loved your kitchen. This was the place we sat in or in the garden. Lovely to sit there in the morning with a coffee. We also met Sylvia (neighbor) and Hannibal (her dog). We never used the sitting room because we had great weather all week.

Everything you told me about the house was right. No surprises or disappointments. It's a house with great character and we also liked the neighborhood. Nice people everywhere".

What makes this apartment unique

Please note this is an Edwardian Brownstone. There is one main entrance and one main staircase

This house has 4 floors and there is a woman who lives on the 4th floor. SHE HAS COMPLETELY SEPARATE FACILITIES AND DOES NOT SHARE ANY PART OF YOUR APARTMENT.

The only part of the house she (and her guests) share with you is the main entrance and the staircase to her apartment.

The tenant is very quiet, friendly and super helpful should you need anything. Many guests have commented on what an asset she had been to them.

You have 2 private bathrooms and a private kitchen. You would be occupying 3 FLOORS + BACKYARD AND LAUNDRY. All rooms have a key so you can lock every door.

A beautifully restored home in the buzzing and vibrant area of Brooklyn.

  • 5 of 5

From the time I contacted the owner Ruty, she was so helpful and arranged everything so well, offering many tips on eateries, travelling around, local supermarkets and anything else I needed to know. Ruty responds very quickly to queries and ensured that my stay went smoothly. The home is exactly as described and we had many happy memories made, playing board games in the grand and gorgeous sitting room, eating in the kitchen and sitting in the garden on warm days! I can't recommend this home enough if you want something different and feel part of a real community in Brooklyn, not just a tourist!! I would definitely stay here again and Ruty's helpfulness and organising was just the icing on the cake! Thank you for making our stay so comfortable and unique. We definitely enjoyed coming back to the home after a long day of sightseeing and talking with your neighbours who were warm, genuine and helpful too...Dia is lovely and again answered our queries...I hope I can visit this home again at some point in the future! Thanks again for everything!

Beautiful house.Fantastic holiday. Can't wait to go back. Loved Brooklyn. Friendly neighbours

  • 5 of 5

The property is a beautiful townhouse in a great location. Spacious, comfortable, characterful and clean. All your home from home necessities provided. Nice back garden for sitting out in the evenings. Friendly neighbourhood. Good superstore in easy walking distance. Ditto Kingston Throop subway. We bought weekly Metro cards and travelled at will. From Upper Manhatten to Coney Island, Queens to Liberty Island. A really good base. Lots of useful info from the landlady. And a friendly and helpful building manager who helped us arrange our taxi back to JFK. Hope to return!.

Better in winter?

  • 3 of 5

I stayed here with 2 friends at the end of Sept. We each had a queen bedroom. Nice! Comfy beds. Indian summer heat wave had the place roasting. Too much noise outside to keep windows open. AC in bedrooms so loud I had to keep a pillow over my head to try sleep.

That was the downside. Conveniently located to trains to city and local groceries. Lots of creaky stairs up and down to bedrooms and kitchen was ok for us. Upstairs tenant shares common stairway inside the rental, hard to lock out with old doors and many keys. Yard off kitchen really could use some TLC.

Owner's Response: Hi Lillian Yes, the house was very hot ( when you arrived late on a hot September day), but as you said, it cooled down pretty quickly. Each room has a brand new (quiet) a/c unit, and we are sorry if you were kept awake. Also our aplogies for the creaky stairs, but this is an Edwadian brownstone with its original staircase. Every room has its own key, so guests can have total security and privacy. We do the best we can to provide a clean, safe, comfortable and unique experience, which we believe is good value for money. Sorry we did not meet your standards. We enjoyed having you. Ruty

Just like coming home

  • 5 of 5

The other reviews are all spot on. An absolutely stunning period property that made us feel like locals. The floor space was great - so much better than a hotel and for a comparible cost for the four of us.

Great to see so many touches too - from the kitchen paper and washing up liquid in the kitchen, to the abundance of towels in the bathroom (as opposed to the one each we'd normally get at hotels).

Dia was quiet - in fact until we saw he on the last morning we thought she was a ghost tenant!

All in all - fabulous. A mere 20-25 minutes to all the sights on the subway. The B43 bus passes on Throop and takes you all the way to Williamsburg, which was a great area.

Top tip - if you can stand to wear them, bring some ear plugs. On some nights the locals got vocal (I always carry them when I travel anyway).

Really fabulous....thanks again Ruty.

lovely home, safe walkable neighborhood, very close to the subway, excellent places to eat.

  • 5 of 5

The property is excellent in terms of Edwardian style ( high ceilings ,crown molding, pocket doors, fireplace in every room, wood trimmings, grand stair cases and original wooden floors . The front of the brownstone is a perfect place to take photos. The Lady on the fourth floor is very helpful during your stay should you need anything. The house is furnished with basic needs. We were very comfortable and felt safe during our girls trip. I will definitely use this location the next time I'm in Brooklyn.

We had a wonderful time! This gorgeous 100+ year old brownstone has it all--plenty of room, convenient to Metro, groceries and restaurants, and quiet neighborhood. Miss Sylvie next door was so helpful too. Would definitely recommend!
