Know before you go....
This property no longer looks as represented online. There is no ping pong table, art work is missing, smoke detectors are gone with wires hanging where they once were, some furniture has been changed, there was a missing bedside lamp in the MB, and many lightbulbs are simply blown out.
There was a “missing” house cat when we arrived & the owner told us to contact him if we found it so he could come to get it. Found it in a closet that night! It’s a sweet inside/outdoor pet who we fed & watered bc bowls were in the kitchen for it & food found. He meowed loudly (2 am) wanting affection, which we attempted to give! The owner (despite repeated texts that he would come by) never came for the cat, instead saying he is a neighborhood stray. THERE IS NO LITTER BOX! The cat is sweet but didn’t always want to go out, so he pooped on the kitchen floor! If you are allergic to cats, don’t like the smell of them- don’t rent this house.
Next, water was turned off for non- payment on day 2. I called the county water dept. & was told the homeowner had not paid despite the bill being overdue by 25 days. Owner did not respond to my call or text & had to go through VRBO to get it paid and H2O turned on later that day. The refrigerator did not work the entire week we rented, despite my texting the owner several times. The main fridge was running at 56 degrees after turning it down to 34. Could not leave any truly perishable foods in it.
The location is great, the house is large, but is being neglected. The fan outside the master bedroom porch is broken, There’s a mattress on the floor of the MB closet. Extra pillows & cases were not easily located & had to be scavenged from unused rooms (we mostly used 3 of the bedrooms). On the whole it was hugely disappointing. The cost was exorbitant for what we actually got. It is not a luxury house other than granite & high end appliances in the kitchen (one of which didn’t work!). IMO it was not worth what we paid. Also, fair warning VRBO will not assist you at all in terms of any compensation for non working items and misrepresentation. I was told to contact the property owner directly, who already had my payment & deposit. The owner is going through a divorce and is having financial problems that I won’t disclose but I discovered when I googled his name. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. The beach is beautiful, the bay is lovely, but the owner was unresponsive to requests for necessary fixes.
Don’t stay here if you like to run the A/C!
Overall the house is decent, small pool, and the bathroom on main floor has unresolved plumbing issues (low water pressure in sink and the shower doesn’t drain properly. The main problem with the home is the owner! Throughout my stay, the owner adjusted the air to 77 to 79 degrees with a WiFi thermostat. He kept changing the air on me and I thought it was broken. The house faces east and west so it gets extreme morning and evening sun, so A/C is needed to keep the home at a comfortable temperature. Now he is telling me he might keep my deposit (even though he kept turning off the air!). Do not stay here! Do not put yourself in this situation! The second to last day he texted me to keep the air on warmer. It is very disappointing to spend almost $6000 on a weekly rental to sweat in the house while the owner is sabotaging the thermostat. This isn’t right and I don’t want you to end up in this situation! Don’t stay here!
Thanks for your review Matt. While we are sorry for any plumbing issues and the limited size the local building code imposed on our pool, we have to stand by our clearly stated rules/policies for the A/C. We have had problems in the past with tenants over using the A/C to the point of freezing it out. The costs of cooling/heating/repairing such a large home, with such extremely beautiful views of sunset and sunrise, can add up to several thousand dollars.
While we respect your opinions, we'd also like you to understand our need to enforce our cost mitigating policies. Especially when dealing with bargain customers such as yourselves.
Please clearly read the rules/policies section of any other home you rent on VRBO to avoid any further negative reviews.
Great beach getaway
Pass-A-Grille is a great quiet beach getaway. The house was spacious and comfortable with great porches overlooking the inter-coastal and short walk to beach. Great house for big group!
Pass a Grille is a mesmerizing piece of paradise
We were lucky to be at Donna and John's house for one whole year and it was nothing less than amazing! We had such a wonderful experience.
It was a sabbatical year and we found this house by luck. At first we were happy and anxious but as soon as we arrived it took us less than a week to realize how lucky we were!
The house is very pratical and easy to deal with even though is a big house. They have everything that you need, I mean, from utensils to kayak. And the couple was very helpful in all the assistance that we needed in this one year.
The house is in the bay area what is such a privilege because you have easy access to the water allowing you to have a boat, a waverunner, a stand up padle, a kayak or just sit down on the deck and admire the view. And what a view!!! The master bedroom face the bay and we had the chance to see many gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and did I mention the dolphins passing by in front of the deck.... (was I right when I said it was mesmerizing?!)
We were also very happy to have really nice and friendly neighbours that help us too and we even became friends! But we can say that not only our neighbours were very nice but everyone in Pass a Grille is very friendly and make you feel very welcome into the community.
At Pass a Grille you have some small markets, restaurants, beach bar and the Best Beach Ever!!!
Nearby St Pete Beach gives you more options that you may need for everyday supplies and needs. And St Petersburg is a perfect city in size and have a lot to offer in all categories! We felt in love with this place!!!

It´s perfect for great vacations with kids with enough space, a lot of gadgets and a beautiful pool an deck area.
