The best part of being the contact person for the cottages is that I love the interactions with people of every inquiry I receive. Each story is unique and the reasons for coming to LI - anniversaries, birthdays, getting married, or just plain kicking back to relax, are all to be celebrated and I love being a part of it. Many guests we have met and they have become friends to both Barry and I. We always look forward to meeting up again and rejoice when our paths do cross at the same time.
Cheryl Paddock purchased this cottage in 2009
From the first moment of visiting Long Island and the Lochabar area, Barry and I felt we had truly found home. The amazing beauty and safety of the harbor, the local people & neighbors who have become close friends, the sea life plus the surrounding vegetation make this the ultimate place to relax or enjoy numerous water sports & activities. A bit of heaven on earth!
The 3 cays in front are accessible by kayak to beach comb for shells, bring a picnic or to enjoy solitary pursuits. It also makes the water calm with the amazing colors of turquoise and many shades of blue.
Sea life with turtles & rays plus the birds, butterflies and flowers surround you with their presence to enjoy.
The cottage location makes it easy to dine out. There are 2 local restaurants close by in Clarence Town that serve Bahamian style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner or ordering takeout if you wish to eat in to enjoy the view. There are several stores within driving distance if you wish to cook and prepare your own.
Deadmans cay airport is a 20 minute drive from the cottage and is an easy commute. Deadmans Cay also hosts a Doctors Clinic with a smaller clinic in Clarence Town.
This place is amazing. Everything you need. but if you do need something, Either Nancy the caretaker or the locals will help you find it!!
The water and wildlife right in front of the house is unsurpassed. we enjoyed every second of this vacay!
We came here on our honeymoon and just got back home yesterday. I felt compelled to write this review because the property, the grounds and the view were absolutely perfect! We absolutely loved this place and the people. We stayed for almost two weeks. The first few days we didn't have a car and didn't need one. We got lots of help from the locals Ernest and Nancy for whatever errands we needed to run and the dual kayak offered lots of beautiful adventures on the bay. We rented a car during the last week and explored Long Island up South and down North, as the locals will explain to you. There is much to visit and we ran out of time to explore it all. The beauty of Long Island is that it is so pristine. Beaches are deserted and flats abound for fly fishermen like my husband. We also loved eating out at the Outer Edge Grill at the Marina for a casual meal, nice people, a nice cross breeze, and a view of the bay. We're a couple in our early thirties and came here looking for relaxation, peace, and romance and we got exactly what we were looking for!
Thanks for renting out this beautiful property with the most amazing of views! Mesmerizing!
What a wonderful place, a perfect cottage for 2! We travel often and this is our favorite place in the Bahamas. Very, very quiet and the view is unforgettable. The caretakers Nancy & Sena were so helpful and friendly, they even brought us fresh bread when we couldn't locate any. If you want turquoise waters, sunny days with a caribbean breeze, and your biggest concern is the number of days left before you have to leave then this is the place!
My partner and I returned to Passionate Pelican for a two week stay over the holidays after falling in love with it and Long Island last February. This time we were able to explore the island more fully and found some wonderful treasures. As before, our stay at PP was convenient, clean, well appointed, safe and lovely. However, the highlight of the trip was our island tour with Ernest Major, one of the caretakers of the cottage. Ernest is a lifelong local and knows everything and most everyone. He customized our tour based on our interests and his intelligence and local knowledge made it fascinating. Want to go shelling? Ernest will take you to the best beach. My particular interest was in the farmers market, so the day was spent going to various farms and meeting people with shared interests- including the former Minister of Agriculture! We explored up and down and all kinds of out of the way sights, especially the former Diamond Crystal salt works The kayak allowed us to explore all kinds of spots as well. We plan to return again and again.
A double rainbow greeted us on the first day, and the flamingos flew over us while we walked on Lochabar Beach one day. A magical vacation! The house is clean, spacious, and has amazing views. I was content to be on the deck watching the sea turtles and stingrays swim around. We lost count. Clarencetown is the best location on the island to stay. Convenient to some of the best restaurants, beaches and sights. Our favorite beach accessed via a short walk down the lane. The owners are great to work with, and Nancy and Ernest were just the right amount of helpful. We had a blast!
Before I get into the actual property I think I need to start by setting expectations of Long Island. There are some very helpful articles and reviews on tripadvisor that describe Long Island that I think everyone should read before heading down. Long Island is not the land of luxury. if you are looking for resorts and all inclusive you will not find it here. In my case it was exactly what I was looking for. Long Island is a place where you can do the exploring on your own (and free) but also feel safe (Long Island has a very low crime rate). I planned some basic beaches and destinations that I wanted to see based on comments and input from others and none of them disappointed. I snorkeled in a handful of locations including the bay that the Passionate Pelican is located on. I am not a very experienced snorkeler and all locations were easy swimming and I had the opportunity to see some interesting things. We had the chance to interact with some of the full time residents and get a feel for what life is actually like there. To truly make the most of your time I recommend a car for the entire stay. there are a handful of rental agencies mostly offering late model sedans and SUVS. Get the SUV as many of the roads and paths are rocky and sandy. If you are up for some do it yourself fun and adventure this is a perfect destination.
The Passionate Pelican itself could not be in a more beautiful location. The pictures on this site do not really do it justice. The water at lochabar is full of blues and greens and the property itself is a pristine garden. Within the first day my wife and I were already saying we would come back. That is saying a lot as we vowed when we got married that we would vacation some place new every year. The property was clean and appropriate with everything in the kitchen you would need to prepare any meal. Having wifi to face time with our 7 month old daughter made our first trip away manageable. The outdoor shower was amazing with a clear view of the water. The best feature however is the deck of the living space that opens up to the breathtaking scenery. The location makes sense too as it is within a couple miles of the capital of the island Clarence town. There is a marina with a couple of restaurants if you choose to eat a meal out. I will be posting a few of my favorite pictures to facebook and tagging the Pelican facebook page if anyone cares to see some more pictures. This place is true beauty!
Located in beautiful Lochabar Harbor known for being the safest harbor on the island and located in the capitol of the island, Clarence Town, Passionate Pelican is only 1-1/2 miles away from several harbor restaurants, bars and a small grocery store plus a bakery. There are many other stores and restaurants located throughout the island. The restaurants serve tasty island fare and the grocery stores have many staples with fresh food arriving weekly by boat. Clarence Town also hosts a health clinic and a packing house that you might find fresh fruit before it ships oversees. Fresh bread made locally may be purchased at Mr. Pratt's store in town on certain days. Bakery items may be ordered through another location near town. You'll also find island made crafts along the highway in Clarence Town. Two beautiful churches grace the hilltops as you enter town. Long Island is one of the safest islands where crime is rare. Residents of Long Island are very friendly and very helpful to tourists.
There are no commercial resorts or chain stores located anywhere on Long Island. Island bands are a treat!
