The best part of being the contact person for the cottages is that I love the interactions with people of every inquiry I receive. Each story is unique and the reasons for coming to LI - anniversaries, birthdays, getting married, or just plain kicking back to relax, are all to be celebrated and I love being a part of it. Many guests we have met and they have become friends to both Barry and I. We always look forward to meeting up again and rejoice when our paths do cross at the same time.
Cheryl Paddock purchased this cottage in 2009
From the first moment of visiting Long Island and the Lochabar area, Barry and I felt we had truly found home. The amazing beauty and safety of the harbor, the local people & neighbors who have become close friends, the sea life plus the surrounding vegetation make this the ultimate place to relax or enjoy numerous water sports & activities. A bit of heaven on earth!
The 3 cays in front are accessible by kayak to beach comb for shells, bring a picnic or to enjoy solitary pursuits. It also makes the water calm with the amazing colors of turquoise and many shades of blue.
Sea life with turtles & rays plus the birds, butterflies and flowers surround you with their presence to enjoy.
The cottage location makes it easy to dine out. There are 2 local restaurants close by in Clarence Town that serve Bahamian style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner or ordering takeout if you wish to eat in to enjoy the view. There are several stores within driving distance if you wish to cook and prepare your own.
Deadmans cay airport is a 20 minute drive from the cottage and is an easy commute. Deadmans Cay also hosts a Doctors Clinic with a smaller clinic in Clarence Town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Passionate Pelican and were scheming about when to plan a return trip while waiting to fly out. The hosts are very attentive and are sensitive to guest privacy.
Beach: where do you start? There are so many choices. If we could attach pictures to our review we wouldn't have to type. Our favorite were the small islands directly in front of the house. We went north to Cape Santa Maria and Stella Maris. The beach at Cape Santa Maria was pretty but really not that long for walking. The water was spectacular but not as clear and incredibly beautiful as the Atlantic side of the island. Deans blue hole was pretty cool and we had it all to ourselves, but then again we kind of had everything to ourselves because there are so few people. When we go back we would visit Gordon's beach again but probably not make the drive to go up north. We kayaked so much to the islands in front of the property and we never tired of it. Beachcombing was superb on all sides of the islands out front and Gordon's was really good for beachcombing also.
Property: there is no finer view. Nothing compares to lifting your head up in the morning and looking out to the beautiful view. The layout is perfect and open and the balcony is ample and very comfortable. The deck is great down by the water with its own spectacular view.
Restaurants: we ate breakfast and dinner at the house each day and only went out for lunch. Our favorite was the closest, the flying fish marina / outer edge grill. We tried rowdy boys once but it was quite greasy and obviously not fresh. Max's Conch bar was very good. We purchased 10 lobster tail and 10 fish fillet at the Fishhouse behind the sea winds grocery in Petty. We grilled out using the small Weber Grill each night, it was fantastic. We did not enjoy the lunch at the Cape Santa Maria restaurant. Hillside grocery In Salt Pond is a definite if you're staying a week or more. Very well stocked.
Dogs: we are dog lovers. Many a vacation has been marred by feral dogs in bad shape. Not on Long Island. A beautiful pot cake that we named Sally stopped by for breakfast and dinner every day and is possibly the sweetest dog ever. So polite, she never came inside but merely waited at the door! If there would've been a mechanism to bring her home we would have.
Nancy is a very attentive property manager. She was excellent in assuring that we had everything we needed. Aloha!
My husband and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary at the Passionate Pelican on Long Island, Bahamas. It was hands down the best most relaxing vacation we have ever had! We were not sure exactly what to expect but every aspect of our stay was beyond what we imaged! From the stunning views of the water from the balcony to the seclusion of home to the hospitality everyone on the island showed us! My husband and I would love to own property as a result of our visit and always talk about our time at the Passionate Pelican and the island! We can't wait to come back!
The pictures truly don't do it justice everyday different view incredible views. If you don't want all the hustle-bustle of an all-inclusive resort this is for you so relaxing shouldn't be legal.
It was definitely romantic and secluded. The view off the deck was majestic. This location offers privacy to the fullest extent. We were definately able to relax without any hustle and bustle. Our stay was highlighted by great people and local cuisine. If you stay here, we highly reccomend letting Ernest be your tour guide/taxi. His knowledge of the Island can lead you to places you could never find on your own. We both really enjoy cooking, and having a full kitchen was great. We purchased lobster tails and grouper, that were so fresh and delicious. Very high quality, clean Villa. A dream vacation we will never forget!
A beautiful well equipped villa with its own balcony, sun deck and direct access to the sea! Transport is definitely required as nothing is within walking distance, except the sea of course! We were fortunate to have Earnest as our driver/guide and friend and spent some wonderful times with both him and his wife exploring the Island. The Island is beautiful, relaxing and unspoilt, not a destination for those looking for the usual tourist traps. Although we do suggest arming yourselves with plenty of insect repellent as my poor husband suffered quite badly with bites, not me for some reason? We also didn't realise that the sun sets quite early, around 5.30 in the evening, I don't know why but we expected longer days, lack of research on our part! We visited the Columbus Monument and The Caves with Mr Cartwright, who explained their history and gave us a great tour for only $10! We enjoyed Conch Salad which was freshly prepared by Ken at Seaside, he pulled the Conch straight from the sea and we watched him prepare it! Amazing.
The Passionate Pelican was a tranquil and happy place to stay. There were a lot of friendly people, not many tourist, and the eateries we visited were excellent. Waking up in the morning and drinking coffee on the deck, counting the sea turtles we spotted was a favorite. If you are not into tourist/resort type spots this is your dream. All the islanders were soo very helpful. Renting a car allows you to explore all the Island has to offer. We will be back again and again!
Located in beautiful Lochabar Harbor known for being the safest harbor on the island and located in the capitol of the island, Clarence Town, Passionate Pelican is only 1-1/2 miles away from several harbor restaurants, bars and a small grocery store plus a bakery. There are many other stores and restaurants located throughout the island. The restaurants serve tasty island fare and the grocery stores have many staples with fresh food arriving weekly by boat. Clarence Town also hosts a health clinic and a packing house that you might find fresh fruit before it ships oversees. Fresh bread made locally may be purchased at Mr. Pratt's store in town on certain days. Bakery items may be ordered through another location near town. You'll also find island made crafts along the highway in Clarence Town. Two beautiful churches grace the hilltops as you enter town. Long Island is one of the safest islands where crime is rare. Residents of Long Island are very friendly and very helpful to tourists.
There are no commercial resorts or chain stores located anywhere on Long Island. Island bands are a treat!
