Purple Haze farm house (circa 1908) was totally renovated in 2006. We are a 200 acre working farm with cattle and crops, fronting the South River, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can see the house from overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view from the house will cure high blood pressure in a minute.
Because it is an old farm house with additions (total of around 3100 sq ft} the floor plan is unique. Downstairs includes all the public rooms plus a full bath. Upstairs includes three bedrooms (one queen and two doubles), a bunk room with a single and bunks which sleeps 3, and two full baths. One of the baths is off a central hall, the other is off one of the double bed bedroom. The upstairs rooms are on three levels, often requiring a step or two between rooms and the hall. If you are a person easily disoriented when you wake up at night, you may want to stay in the room with the ensuite bath with no steps. Also, it has a metal roof, so you will hear rain and wind storms if one arises.
The address is 118 Hall School Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980, should you wish to map it.
While only a few miles from the interstate, we are in a lovely rural setting. With 3/4 mile frontage on the South River, we have lovely paths for hiking and gentle water for canoeing (no rapids) and fishing. Lots of bass and trout. This area is particularly nice for biking, with many rural roads, and excellent mountain biking trails nearby in the national forest. With 24 wineries within 25 miles, you can enjoy a grand tour or just visit a couple only 10 minutes away. Lake Sherando is 15 minutes away for swimming. We also have pool passes at two nearby hotels so you can swim indoors or out.
In the Fall the colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley are amazing. There is no extra charge for them.
You'll have a full modern kitchen, or many restaurants nearby for dining. The den features a card table and a large HD TV with DVD. In the barn there is foosball and ping pong. We have an outside basketball court, and lots of area for soccer.
Behind the house there is a patio with a wonderful view of the property and the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have recently expanded the patio to include a firepit and a hottub.
If you are so inclined, you can visit our chickens and three miniture donkeys, Fiona,Fergie and baby Olive. You can win their hearts with an apple or carrot, or by brushing their coats.
We are less than 30 minutes from Charlottesville (Monticello and University of Virginia), Wintergreen(golf and skiing) and Staunton(Frontier museum and Shakespeare Theater). 45 minutes from Harrisonburg, Masanutten with it's waterpark and skiing, Lexington and the Safari zoo. About 2 hours from Richmond, Williamsburg, Jamestown and 3 hours from Washington DC and Virginia Beach.
Dulles airport is 2.5 hours and Richmond airport is about 90 minutes.
Come settle in on our farm for a week, take in all the fun activities in the area, and then relax with the comforts and room of home.
11/2015 update: the donkeys are still here, but olive is no longer a baby, although she is smaller. They are fat (Deana spoils them), but still love carrot treats.
The barn is there for games, but we no longer rent for weddings (too many bridezillas). We do rent for small events on an individual basis. We host weekly Young Life meetings and Young Life groups are welcome all the time. We are a great spot for a square dance/hoodown. Email or call Brad for details or questions. 540 294 1633
Brad, Deana, Dalton, Liam and a host of animals live on the farm. Deana was born and raised in the area. Brad moved here 25 years ago to work, fell in love with the area and Deana. Neither is leaving.
We bought the farm in 2004, and moved into the farm house a few years later. In 2009 we built a new home on the farm, and thus the farm house became available for VRBO.
Dalton and Liam have lived on the farm most of their lives. Like most kids, they don't have a clue how lucky they are.
Brad Tipler purchased this house in 2004
Lots of reasons, including, the view, the view, the view........
We live in a rural peaceful area, but the necessities (and luxuries ) of modern life are just 10 minutes away.
Our family came up for our son's wedding and spent the week at the house. This house was so nice and the property was beautiful! Brad and Deanna were the perfect hosts! They were attentive without being invasive. Everything was ready for us, clean and a welcome basket of fruit, chocolate and water was awaiting our arrival! We took full advantage of all the amenities and could not have been more pleased. We had our twin grandsons (2 1/2 years old) our daughter, son in law and another daughter stay with us. Plenty of room. We also had our son's friends over several nights for time around the fire pit and fun in the barn! Thank you Brad and Deanna for providing a memorable family vacation for our family!
Awesome location quite and serine. Owner could not be more accommodating. Would definitely stay again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Easter vacation at the farm. There was plenty of room for our family of 6. The house was immaculately clean, and we were able to get in a few hours early. We were well stocked with plenty of towels and essentials. Despite the age and quirkiness of the house, the kitchen was modern, and the fruit & chocolate was a welcome surprise when we arrived. Brad and Deana gave us excellent advice on local hikes (esp humpback rocks) and restaurants (loved Blue Mtn Brewery & Kings Popcorn) . we were about 20 minutes from hikes in the Shenandoah National forest (Doyle Falls hike was beautiful,) and 30 minutes to Monicello, both of which we enjoyed. Our kids loved playing ping pong in the barn, visiting the donkeys, and walking down to the river to fish. The location felt secluded, yet was just a few minutes to the highway. Our security deposit was promptly returned. would definitely recommend this home.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful week. The farm is fantastic. The kids had so much fun! Their favorite things to do were play hide and seek tag, feed the donkeys, run the trail to the river and back, and play with the Legos. We have 5 kids (15, 13, 10, 5, & 1) all found fun activities and didn't want to leave. The house had everything we needed. We cooked inside and out. We loved the fire pit. The barn's ping pong and foosball tables got lots of use. So many fun things to do in the area as well. We did Natural Bridge, the Frontier Culture Museum, the Grand Caverns, and hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The farm house was a perfect vacation for us. At the home we felt were away from it all with gorgeous views and peaceful farm noises, but at the same time we were 10 minutes from a grocery store and dozens of restaurants (we took Brad's advice for all of the restaurants we visited and every restaurant/ice cream place was a hit!). The Tipler’s hospitality is outstanding. Super clean, great value, highly recommend!!
Thanks for sharing the best Farm House. Enjoyed each and every moments and surroundings. Will come back to stay for more time.
Our group of nine adults rented the Tipler farm house for three nights over Memorial Day weekend. It exceeded our expectations in every way possible. Upon arrival, the owners had a goody basket waiting for us, and we enjoyed the strawberries and chocolate while reading through their thorough and helpful welcome binder. Over the next few days, we enjoyed walking around the farm, playing on the tire swings, cooking dinner on the grill, and watching a movie in the TV den. The Tiplers were so welcoming, and we all enjoyed a perfect, relaxing weekend away. We're already planning our next visit!
We are next door to Springdale Mennonite Church, though there is a cow field between us. Use that on Google maps, or you will end up 1/2 mile south of us on Hall School in front of a vineyard.
