Heated pool, warmth and charm on the beach!! Newly rennovated and expanded kitchen (pics by end of Feb)! From the moment you walk in the house to be greeted by a famous and fun Walter Palmer pelican sculpture, the finishing touches on this charismatic 1964 house come from Savannah brick, aged heart pine floors, and knobby cypress and pecky-pine walls, reclaimed from a historic Savannah parish house. The house is buffered from the beach by a 20x50 yard, beautifully landscaped open-space, and the front side of the house is bordered by two lagoons;, bringing the house to feel like a private, peaceful sanctuary! This timeless, beautifully designed home is featured in the first few pages of the book 'Three Decades of Hilton Head Architecture'.
The house has been meticulously maintained and improved over the years by a family member/property manager, who lives two miles away and is on call 24/7 to guarantee your satisfaction and answer any questions.
As a family, we've really enjoyed visiting and owning a piece of Hilton Head since 1965!
Greg Schenkel purchased this house in 1976
We've rooted into HH and Sea Pines since 1965!
This was the second year that my family stayed at this house and we were not disappointed either year. This house is perfect for families or large groups. Each bed room has its own private bathroom (all of which have been updated and are super nice)! The children in our group were pleased to see the addition of a few more TV's in the house. The kitchen is so well stocked with everything you need from large dishes, blenders, to spices and etc. The pool is perfect location and the deck and hammock are so wonderful and peaceful to take an afternoon nap in. The house even has extra beach toys, kayaks, boogie boards and beach towels in case you forgot to pack your own. Greg the property manager is super nice and very helpful!
The only thing the teenage girls requested be added to the house is locking doors on the bedrooms.
We had a wonderful experience at this house! It had plenty of space for our extended family and was great for our several small children (ages 1-6). We particularly liked that there was space between the house and the pool for that reason. The beach was perfect and Greg was a great host as well! Will definitely come back!
I can't recommend this house enough! My family of 10 (ages 11 - 70) were so comfortable over our summer vacation. It is a lovely older beach house - not a McMansion (though it is extremely roomy) and this was one of the things we loved most. We felt like we were at a beach house. The kitchen was so well stocked and we only went out to eat one time as we couldn't think of any restaurant that had a better view than this house. We loved having a pool and the ocean so easily accessible. You can ride your bike easily to South Beach, Harbor Town and the Forest Preserve. We saw a Sea Turtle laying her eggs on the beach late at night, which was a highlight. And Greg was the best! Welcoming and offered advice and recommendations when asked, yet not overbearing at all. We will definitely return to this house the next time we head to Hilton Head!
My family of six (husband/wife and our 4 adult age kids) plus two of our kids friends had a wonderful time. The house is very spacious and everyone enjoyed their "nooks", plus comfortable with lots of places for us to play games at night. We also enjoyed the many eating areas - kitchen, dining room and outside. The kitchen was such a great set up, that we cooked all of our meals at home and had no desire to go out to eat. Good family bonding time afforded by this fun beach house. Our dog love romping in the large yard and chasing squirrels. Greg was a perfect host - - attentive and always available if needed. The home was in great shape with any and everything you would ever need at hand. The beach and yard were beautiful. The pool was perfect and a great option to mix in with the ocean. My kids had a few great night swims in the pool. We saw dolphins constantly and had good luck fishing from the surf. Very scenic area for biking and we enjoyed seeing gators in the ponds. - - - Good times !!
This house was exactly what we were looking for! We are extremely thankful to Greg for sharing his charming home. We wanted a house that was owner/managed. We have found these houses to be quite a bit better in our experience.
This is what we loved:
Each of the 5 bedrooms had it's own bathroom.
The beach was large and beautiful! The kids loved the pool and the decks as well.
The location was perfect for biking. The bike trails are well done in Sea Pines.
The kitchen is well stocked and the family room was perfect to get everyone together talk, play games, watch a movie. We loved the layout of the house.
I agree with all of the reviews below. I was thankful to read them when I was looking for a house, then to agree with them once I arrived at the house.
I would absolutely recommend this house to my friends and return!
This home offers a fabulous setting for large family vacation. Greg was hospitable and personable. Stayed in contact with us to insure all was going well without being a pest. The place was a perfect location oceanside and close to everything. Not fancy-smancy, but lots of character and clean. The home is stocked with everything from beach toys to fabric softener. You name it...they got it, no expense spared. Our dog loved it! Very reasonably priced in the off season for the Gold Coast. Live like a millionaire. Will return in the fall.
Beach Lagoon offers a uniquely private beach, since only 2 rows of homes feed into the 3/4 mile long beach!
