CEDAR POINT FARM - Formerly managed by River Bluff Cabins
Why Owner chose Rileyville
Local people often book this home as a true "find" in this area. It is quiet and has one of the nicest river spots to relax on the Shenandoah for a quick dip, fishing or just relaxing. Come see why folks who know the area, return year after year.
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Magical as always !!!
3rd year in a row at the Farmhouse , and many more to come , it’s become our family’s oasis to recharge the batteries and reconnect as we are in a very hectic season of life with 2 daughters finishing up high school , starting college , and starting to work and all that comes along with growing up ... Some times we are like ships passing in the night at home but again NOT HERE !!! Something so special about floating the river , morning coffee walks on the property , just sitting in the ri we in chairs , and crawfish hunting with my girls like we did when they were younger , this place is really good for our Souls ! The week we come every summer happens to be my birthday week and this year was awesome , my wife and girls took me on the canaopy tour at the state park and got me my very own GoPro to document it as it’s on my conquer my irrational fear of heights bucket list (next month I’m skydiving so the GoPro will come in very handy) keep in mind a year ago I wouldn’t climb a 6’ step ladder . Enough of my rambling , rent this place , we plan to come back year after year and as our family grows we will rent both places on the property to accommodate grandkids and spouses . Also ... the 1st year we stayed in Starview and it sparked our love of the property and is every bit as great we just love the character and charm of the Farmhouse ! You won’t be disappointed, owners are fantastic, though we’ve never really needed to contact them with the exemption of booking and dates and such . Have fun , thank me later !
Glad you could return. Hope you had a great summer!
Wonderful farmhouse stay
We spent an amazing week in the farmhouse. Several moderate hikes in Shenandoah National Park are within an hour drive, and we enjoyed sitting on the porch every morning and evening looking at the mountains and relaxing. There’s nothing gross about the bathroom or the kitchen, the fixtures are outdated but perfectly fine and clean. From the huge kitchen window you have the same amazing view as from the porch - no other house in sight. The fireplace worked just fine and was easy to use. The hot tub was a bit smelly and murky when we arrived, but we contacted the owner and she came and fixed it right away. The two bedrooms are right next to each other at one end of the house, kitchen and bathrooms are at the other end, everything is on the same floor. One bedroom has a door to the porch and a window with the same amazing views. Google Maps had no problem taking us right to the house, no further directions needed. The windows and screens could use a good cleaning and some fixing. We only used the ceiling fans during our stay, and very perfectly comfortable. We would definitely come back!
A Wonderful Country Getaway
This gem is tucked nicely amongst fields and rolling hills. The Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains create a beautiful backdrop. My wife and I stayed during the Polar Vortex that came rolling down from Canada. It was snowy and cold but that only added to our fun. Folks, this is an old, drafty farm house. You won't find luxury here. What you will find is charm and character and country ambiance. We will definitely come back.
We loved that you captured the surroundings and the home. Winters here are beautiful and one can see everthing without the leaves on the trees. Thanks so much for taking time and writing a review. We look forward to back int he future!
Moldy Mansion, Sept. 18
Yep...that's what my teenagers named it -- "moldy mansion". It's an old, neglected farmhouse that seems to have been in the owners' family for a while and they have grown accustomed to its...peculiar qualities. That's all we can figure, as to why someone would feel comfortable renting it out without maintaining it. My 16 year old son was quiet as we walked in. After a long pause, he said, "Isn't this how most scary movies begin?" We're very down-to-earth people who can be comfortable in basic accommodations or even camping, but when you walk into a house that is so moldy/mildewy, so full of cobwebs, bugs, and dirt and such dusty old furniture...the place named itself. Every dish we took out of the cabinet had dried food on it. It's as if the previous renters never even rinsed the dishes, much less, washed them. Clearly, no one checked the house before we rented it. The hot tub -- a requirement for a Luray rental-- was not usable. It was murky and smelly. I looked around and found some tablets to put in the tub, but they never cleared up the smell and murkiness. I did discover why the place is full of bugs and mold -- while you're in the basement, which is open to the outdoors, you can look up and see the light of the living room through the floorboards. This place needs a serious renovation. I am sure it is not up to safety codes. The bathroom fixtures and the kitchen fixtures were just gross. Also, they should tell you the actual address and provide clear directions. Everything about this rental experience was horrible. The bright side is that we were all so happy to get home.
I feel misled by the previous renters' comments. Maybe they're city dwellers who don't have a nice, quiet neighborhood and are impressed by the quiet. You will have quiet. And there is a large, stone fireplace, but I'm not sure it even works, and we weren't about to take our chances, given the sad state of the place.
Do not expect to be near the river, and do not think there will be anything such as a canoe or tubes or anything of that nature. It had recently rained and we walked through a very mucky field. It's a bit of a hike to the river.
My coworker asked for a recommendation for Luray, which reminded me I should write a review. Do not rent this place. There are so many other nice places to rent in Luray. Keep looking! I must have been misled by the picture of the rockers on the front porch.
So hope that you could enjoy the area and mountains. So sorry that we did not have the opportunity to speak directly. Best to you and your family for a healthy and happy 2019.
A lovely get-away at a beautiful location
The farm house is located at a secluded end-of-the-road right by the Shenandoah river. We have heard/seen no other people while at the house, and enjoyed the quiet, but could easily get to restaurants, shops and attractions when we wanted to.
And we saw plenty of wildlife right on the premises.
The house is very comfortable, and very welcoming in terms of beds, living areas - and the wonderful screened porch, facing the mountains and the river. Wifi also worked well - even though we opted to be offline as much as possible.
It could use a bit of deep-cleaning/freshening-up in the kitchen/bathroom areas, and a few other minor issues - which is the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars.
Nina - the owner was easily available and approachable, and very welcoming and nice.
It was a relaxing and scenic location with ample space for our group
We enjoyed fishing and relaxing by the river and making a small fire to roast marshmallows. The hot tub was relaxing as well.
Thanks for coming to enjoy the river, mountains and stars! I hope you saw lots of wildlife as well and enjoyed the seclusion of the Farmhouse. Best, NIna
