Welcome - and we invite you to experience the magic of Casa Buena Vista!
Richard Kruse purchased this house in 2007
Casa Buena Vista is a dream come true!
It was more than 25 years ago when we first experienced Taos...and the magic lives on! And we now call it our companion home - a perfect getaway with 'all mod-cons.'
We love Taos given its beauty, culture and people - rich with art and steeped in history. Home to Taos Pueblo, the Village of Taos Ski Valley and a colorful array of surrounding communities like the charming Village of Arroyo Seco.
We chose to reside in the charming Village of Arroyo Seco given its small New Mexican village atmosphere - variety of restaurants, art galleries and specialty shops - and location [situated majestically below Taos Mountain (and the Taos Ski Valley Canyon) and conveniently between the town of Taos (9 mi) and Village of Taos Ski Valley (9 mi)]. And there are many folktales told in New Mexico about how some towns came to be. There are few, however, which can match the beauty of the tales surrounding the founding of the Village of Arroyo Seco.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (Excellent), How would you rate your overall experience at Casa Buena Vista?
"Thanks for a great week—your home was perfect for our needs."
"...both the house and the location are just perfect. And thank you for your very kind offer to extend our stay an extra night. We appreciate the offer very much. Sadly, we must leave as planned on Saturday as the 'real word' will be waiting for us on Sunday."
“We had a wonderful stay at your home—thanks so much.”
We loved this house so much last year that we rented it again this year but for a month this time. The location is perfect for us as we can walk into the village of Seco and still be only 2 stoplights away from downtown Taos! Hiking trails are just minutes away and if you are a cyclist like me the location is central for many of the local rides around Taos and the mountains. It's completely convenient while still being completely private.
Our favorite thing about the property is the porch. Every morning we would sit out there and watch the sun come up over the mountains while drinking our coffee. It's the most relaxing thing we did and we made a point of doing it every day.
Just like last year the house was beautifully stocked, immaculately clean, and absolutely ready for us to move in and stay for a month. It literally could not have been a more professional setup.
In short, we will, without question, be staying here again when we next return to Arroyo Seco and Taos.
This house was super clean ... and literally had everything we wanted/needed. The house, appliances, and furnishings are all in great condition. We just can't speak to how the owners would address any issues/problems ... because we didn't have any!
This was our third time staying at Casa Bueno Vista, and each time gets better than the last.
The description is completely accurate. The location was perfect for us. It was about a 20 minute drive to either the ski valley or the town of Taos. The house is easy walking distance from the town of Arroyo Seco, and can easily access places like Taos Cow by foot. The area is very quiet, and the views are amazing. A little off the beaten path, but close to everything.
The house was very well equipped, well maintained and very clean. Everything you can think of needing is provided. The owners even leave a small assortment of shampoos and lotions from a local company in the bathrooms. It was the perfect setup for a great vacation. Nothing better than spending the day skiing then having a nice warm fire in the kiva.
Shortly after arriving, Rick called to make sure everything was ready for us. One of the days we had a brief internet outage, and I sent him an email. He called in less than a minute and walked me through getting the internet service working again. Extremely responsive and helpful owners. You couldn't ask for a better setup. We will be back for a fourth visit!
Beautiful, well appointed, comfortable house. You can tell the owner's want this house to be a reflection of them. Very clean and comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, appliances, place settings, condiments, etc.... Bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Loved the fireplace as we did not see the sun all week. Great snow this early in the season. We skied 6 days and were happy to have a very comfortable "home" to come back to. Slept 5 comfortable. 2 girls in the second bedroom. Son on the futon. Master was comfortable. May consider getting a tempurpedic bed myself. Owner checked up to make sure everything was ok.
We were concerned with the driveway and all the snow, but our "city car" did just fine. Only complaint: driveway and parking is not ideal for 2 cars, but we managed fine. A bit too far to walk to the village with the weather we had.
Like another reviewer mentioned; hate to let others know what a great property this is. Afraid it will be booked when we want to return.
One of our best Christmas holidays.
This is a beautiful place to stay! Great views of the mountains from the wrap around porch, large comfortable rooms and beautifully decorated.
We have stayed in many places in Taos and rate this property among the best. The surrounding mountains are spectacular. The Kruse are excellent hosts who have organized the house wisely and well. The house is surrounded by prairie dogs, rabbits and even a coyote. Like General MacArthur, we shall return.
Fun activities for all ages in the Taos area include: skiing, snowboarding in surrounding towns, mountain and desert hiking to rivers and waterfalls, rock climbing, whitewater rafting and kayaking, hot air ballooning, golf, tennis, and mountain biking. World class restaurants, shops, a cinema, including a weekly art film series, museums, art galleries, classes, and workshops. Something for everyone. The Taos Ski Valley has many fun events throughout the Winter; the Taos Film Festival takes place in March; the World Poetry Bout in June; the Solar Music Festival in July; the Fall Arts Festival in September; Mountain Film Festival and the Balloon Festival in October. Visit the Taos Pueblo the oldest continually occupied structure in North America with tours and several festivals open to the public.
Other Activities: Rafting; Geocaching
Golf: Taos Country Club
Located at 7,000 feet elevation in historic Taos, and featuring spectacular desert scenery with abundant sagebrush, challenging arroyos, and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and nearby Taos Box Canyon, Taos Country Club offers one of the most dramatic golf experiences in New Mexico. Measuring a lofty 7,300 yards from the back tee, the links-style championship design will test the skills of even the most seasoned golfer, while its gently rolling terrain and four sets of tees make the course forgiving and enjoyable for all skill levels.
Ski: Taos Ski Valley
Taos is a great place to vacation with your family because there is so much to see and do. When you take a family ski vacation, you want wholesome fun and the time spent together to be rewarding. Taos is full of interesting, educational, life-enhancing and exciting activities: whether you are skiing, ice skating, tubing, snowmobiling, hot air ballooning, or exploring new cultures, this vacation will be an experience you won't soon forget. Taos Ski Valley is the family fun leader and this year with improvements to their 'Out-to-Launch' Terrain Park, their Teen Center, and regularly scheduled evening activities, Taos is even more of a great family destination than ever.
