About Richard Kruse

Welcome - and we invite you to experience the magic of Casa Buena Vista!

Richard Kruse purchased this house in 2007

Why Richard Kruse chose Arroyo Seco

Casa Buena Vista is a dream come true!

It was more than 25 years ago when we first experienced Taos...and the magic lives on! And we now call it our companion home - a perfect getaway with 'all mod-cons.'

We love Taos given its beauty, culture and people - rich with art and steeped in history. Home to Taos Pueblo, the Village of Taos Ski Valley and a colorful array of surrounding communities like the charming Village of Arroyo Seco.

We chose to reside in the charming Village of Arroyo Seco given its small New Mexican village atmosphere - variety of restaurants, art galleries and specialty shops - and location [situated majestically below Taos Mountain (and the Taos Ski Valley Canyon) and conveniently between the town of Taos (9 mi) and Village of Taos Ski Valley (9 mi)]. And there are many folktales told in New Mexico about how some towns came to be. There are few, however, which can match the beauty of the tales surrounding the founding of the Village of Arroyo Seco.

We'll be back

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Casa Buena Vista. It would have been our 4th but they're so busy we haven't been able to find room on previous trips. I love everything about this place: the location, the view, the really soft bed, the view, how relaxing it is to stay there. It was so nice to be able to walk into Arroyo Seco for dinner at Aceq or an ice cream cone at Taos Cow. The kitchen is truly gourmet. We were able to host a small dinner party for local friends with no problems. (We've tried that at another guest house and found out they only had three forks! No problem like that here.) I love how thoughtfully laid out this house is, too. I really wanted to lie and say our stay was terrible so there would be more availability when we want it, but I just couldn't. It's too wonderful.

Our 3rd stay at this property

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at this property 3 times in the last 3 years and love it. The combination of location, view, convenience, and large property keep us coming back. We can walk into the village of Arroyo Seco in a short time, play in the yard, or be on a hike in the mountains in just a few minutes. And if you are a cyclist like I am the location is perfect for climbing the ski valley and then stopping at the "Cow" for a double expresso before heading back to the house.

We will, without question, be staying here again.

Terrific location, indeed

  • 5 of 5

The 360 degree views really are terrific, and the house is extremely well-outfitted, nicely decorated and in very good working order. The owner was a pleasure to deal with, from start to finish. We thoroughly enjoyed our two months in the summer of 2016 and hope to rent it again for equally long periods whenever it is available in the future. The rolled chicken tacos at Abe's Cantina are the best.

Our Second time renting this property

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house so much last year that we rented it again this year but for a month this time. The location is perfect for us as we can walk into the village of Seco and still be only 2 stoplights away from downtown Taos! Hiking trails are just minutes away and if you are a cyclist like me the location is central for many of the local rides around Taos and the mountains. It's completely convenient while still being completely private.

Our favorite thing about the property is the porch. Every morning we would sit out there and watch the sun come up over the mountains while drinking our coffee. It's the most relaxing thing we did and we made a point of doing it every day.

Just like last year the house was beautifully stocked, immaculately clean, and absolutely ready for us to move in and stay for a month. It literally could not have been a more professional setup.

In short, we will, without question, be staying here again when we next return to Arroyo Seco and Taos.
