About Monika & Peter Gewecke
We are a family of four and are originally from Germany. When Peter retired in 1994, we decided to replace our home in Germany/ Berlin and Duesseldorf to live here in Florida, in Treasure Island. Peter is my husband of almost 50 years, now I am the smallest in size in the family, as you can see in this photo taken in 2012. Markus is our older son and Stefan is our younger son. Only Peter and I live here and our sons and their families live and work in Germany. They all come and visit us, when their time allows them to do so. We, as parents, have more time and we fly regularly to Germany to visit them. We love our new primary home on Isle of Capri in the City of Treasure Island, where we met many wonderful people and became friends with many of them .We also enjoy our good and quiet neighborhood. I am an avid League tennis player hitting the tiny yellow balls in my free time. Besides this, our main goal is our business/condo rental and, of course, YOU - OUR GUESTS. We live almost year round here in Treasure Island to take the time and pride to give you an outstanding service.
Monika & Peter Gewecke purchased this Condo in 2006
Why Monika & Peter Gewecke chose Treasure Island
LOCATION - Prime Location DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH. We bought this condo, an end unit from north/east to south/west TOTALLY FACING THE BEACHES and situated DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH. Both bedrooms are facing north, very important here in Florida, keeping the sun out and staying cool. Facing south/west are balcony PARALLEL to the beach and living room with kitchen. Our condo is on the 5th floor out of 6 floors. From every window and every room you have DIRECT views to the beaches to the horizon, the Gulf of Mexico. Our condo offers 925 sq Ft and a big balcony of 100 sq Ft in full view of the beaches and FACING TOTALLY the beaches. It is fully furnished to the best of our own European/Floridian taste. Being DIRECTLY SITUATED DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH, this condo is airy, bright and with light colors in white and yellow being the dominant colors. You receive the pleasure of the most AMAZING SUNSETS from the big balcony facing the beaches. Before we choose living here in Florida, we traveled around the world to many different places and countries and decided to be part of this beautiful wide beach here in Florida's calm and sunny part of the world. On a very private note: I was Stewardess/Flight Attendant with Air Canada, being multilingual, English, French, German and stationed in Montreal and in Toronto and spent my vacation at that time in Treasure Island. Yes, I really did this and I fell in love with this city of Treasure Island. My husband Peter, who is DIPL.-ING, Master's Degree in engineering from the University of Berlin, and I married in Germany, had two boys, and we all lived in Germany for most of our lives. After Peter retired we both decided to stay and live here. Our adult boys live and work with their families in Germany. They visit us when their time allows them to do so.
What makes this Condo unique
NEW Information in 2018. Our whole building got a purification water treatment installation for all water faucets in the condos. We installed new sliding glass doors in the living room towards the balcony in 2016. They run smoothly and are according to the latest standards and requirements for Hurricane Proof Windows and Doors. We experienced NO DAMAGE through Hurricane Irma in September 2017. In April 2017 we installed energy saving devices at our own front entrance door as well as the sliding glass doors. These doors must be shut in order to have the air conditioning system run. You cannot have these doors and windows open and expect the air conditioning system run. These are Energy saving magnets. This condo building, built in 2000/2001, remodeled in 2004/2005 and repainted in 2016 has a fantastic name: SOUTH BEACH CONDO HOTEL. The first impression you get while arriving are the distinctive colors on the facade: Bright Yellow, softer yellow and dark Violet. On the outside of the two staircases you see the name in big letters, lit at night: SOUTH BEACH. This building is outstanding and unique with South Beach Colors! In 2004/05 the whole building was refurbished and updated with granite counter tops and new appliances. We, Peter and Monika, always re-decorate and update the furnishing and window decorations throughout the different rooms. In January 2017 we installed new decorations of dark blue/black curtains to block out the lights at night. We also installed a new 40 " Smart TV in the master bedroom and in August 2017 a 50 " SMART TV in the living room. We really fell in love with this building and condo because of the LOCATION. Location is a MUST being DIRECTLY ON THE BEACHES, no neighboring buildings disturbing your views and a quiet and serene surrounding. You only hear the waves from the Gulf of Mexico while sitting on the balcony.

Perfect Location for relaxation!!
We had the pleasure of spending 6 days down on the Gulf. The condo we rented was exactly as advertised and being able to walk out the back entrance to the boardwalk and beach was a nice perk! Most of the restaurants we visited were within walking distance. We got plenty of walking exercise up and down the beach!! The Publix grocery store was close by (less than a mile) so we were able to stock up on some snacks and beverages. The sunsets from the balcony were second to none!! Monika and Peter did an excellent job in communicating with us prior to the trip so there were no surprises. We will go back again!!
love the building!
Treasure Island is a terrific location to vacation, and we came back for a month! Lots to do close by, beautiful wide sidewalk, and wonderful people who run the place. thanks for some great memories!
Dear Vickie and husband,
thank you very much for your kind review and I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful condo again and this time for the month of January for four weeks.
We look forward to meeting you again in the future.
Monika and Peter
Great location, disappointing experience
I booked the condo for my family of five for a five night stay (4 adults + a 10 year old) for a new years vacation.
Pros: Beautiful views. Great location, directly on the beach and adjacent to the city walking path. Easy walking to several nice restaurants and attractions. Comfortable beds.
- Although the listing stated accommodation for six there was only seating in the living area for three comfortably, or four in a squeeze (a sofa and one chair). The small breakfast table only seats four. The lack of adequate seating for five was a major downer throughout our stay. The VRBO listing stating accommodations for six is VERY misleading.
- While the condo was clean in general, the furnishings were not as upscale as we were expecting based on the listing info, photos, and priced paid. For example, the sofa needed a good cleaning. The breakfast chairs had hand towels draped over them as covers for the stained seat cushions underneath. There was a ring of mold in both bath sinks under the rim of the granite.
- Communication from the owner was lacking in customer concern. Halfway through our stay, a leaking pipe in our unit caused a flood in the unit underneath and we were told by condo management not to use the master bath. We completely understand that things happen. That said, all five of us had to share the hall bath for three days (five rounds of showers, etc.)....very uncomfortable to say the least. Via e-mail, the owners implied that this wasn't a big deal and stated that we should be appreciating the proximity to the beach and the sunsets. We were offered a small compensation that wasn't anywhere near adequate for our troubles.
The owners are right...The views, location and building itself were all nice...we just wished we would have rented a different unit there.
We loved spending our Christmas holiday in your condo. It had amazing views of the gulf, the condo was laid out well and there was room for all of us to enjoy being together. If there was a question It was quickly taken care of and answered...we had a wonderful time and highly recommended this home.
Dear Erin and family,
thank you very much for your friendly and detailed review. Perhaps I will meet you personally at another time and then we can chat a bit longer.
All the best to you and your family and we wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020.
Monika and Peter
Beautiful place and location, will definitely go again.
Great place! Will be back!
Only negative was there were 4 items of clothing left and wanted $70 to mail up to NY.
All in all, great location and spacious home.
We, the owners, Peter and Monika , put a Special Folder in our condo for you to browse through all the different venues, attractions, shopping, etc. which Treasure Island and neighboring towns have to offer. We always update this folder.
Treasure Island in Pinellas County, has the most beautiful and wide beaches with bright white sand. Recently, the City decided to preserve our sandy beaches with plantation of sea oats. Our coastline starts at Clearwater Beach on the northern point of the islands and ends in Pass-A-Grill, the most southern destination, 34 miles altogether over a couple of bridges over the Intracoastal Waterways.
From our condo you can walk for hours and miles without crossing any street and there is no traffic allowed at all on our beaches.
I like to point out that dogs are not allowed on the beaches, only on a leach in company of an adult on the walkways.
Grocery Shopping at Publix is a pleasure, because it is only five minutes away by car, as well as Walgreens is close by. In town we have the post office , different banks and speciality shops like flower shop, a gym, new: oil and vinigar, ABC wine store and many more.
For your additional exploring - about 20 minutes by car south from us - is Fort de Soto National Park. In this park which is located on the mouth of Tampa Bay, you can admire nature all surrounding you. If you like you can explore the old Fort, built in 1898, but was never active. There are some old canons on display and the whole area is part of old Floridian History.
Many Restaurants of different tastes are in walking distance from the condo. Just to mention a few: Middle Grounds (excellent), The Pearl, next to the clock tower, (excellent) a couple of Pizza places or just grab a sandwich at Foxi's. On the beaches itself, walking from our condo only five minutes on the beach walkway, are two restaurants: Italian Restaurant Feola's and Sloppy Joe.
Besides this, there is John Pass Village, a tourist attractions and friendly village in walking distance from our condo along the shoreline. It will take you about fifteen minutes walking from our condo building. John Pass Village has about two hundred different venues and a couple of restaurants for you to explore. At John Pass is a board-walk, from which you can admire wild playing dolphins while drinking a cup of coffee or tea or having an ice-cream, home made!
The New DALI Museum in downtown St. Petersburg is about the Spanish extraordinary artist Salvadore Dali and opened in January 2011. The building itself is already spectacular from the outside. Another First Class Museum is the world glass artist Dale CHIHULY from Seattle.
St. Petersburg is a beautiful and very unique city of about 250.000 inhabitants, situated directly on Tampa Bay with new condo buildings and also old and historic hotels. It is really worthwhile to walk around Straub Park and have a seat in one of the many restaurants and locales.
Other activities here on our beaches are: Skite Flying, Sand Sculptures called THE OVATION, sun bathing, and there is something for everybody to do.
Golf and Tennis: For you and your family the city of Treasure Island offers the Treasure Bay Golf PUBLIC and Tennis Courts for a reasonable price. The Golf course has 9 holes and there are 10 clay like Har-true tennis courts. This facility is located on the Intracoastal Waterway with wide views over the water and in summer there is always a breeze which makes it easy for all guests to play outside.
Shopping: Close by is Tyrone Mall, where you find International and national suppliers, like H & M, Macys, etc. and also different restaurants to relax after the shopping tour.
About 30 minutes south, close to Sarasota, is the Outlet Mall Ellenton with hundreds of shops and many different restaurants. Enough temptation for everybody.
We are sure you will find a gift and a souvenir for all your loved ones at home.
New in the Fall of 2016 and continuing in 2017: The Ferry Service from John's Pass along the different small towns like hop on and off. At the moment this service is only on the weekends available.
