This home is our family retreat. There is no touch of an 'institutional' feel anywhere. Our family and extended family spends a lot of time here and we want to share this truly unique and serene experience with those that can appreciate some time away from the rat race. We are VERY kid friendly...but also an ideal destination for a romantic weekend for 2!
Ann purchased this farmhouse in 2005
The Kettle Moraine State Forest's Southern Unit is unique and beautiful. It is also easily accessible to the greater Chicagoland AND the greater Milwaukee areas. The truly amazing thing is all that is available within a short distance - cycling (on and off road), hiking, horseback riding, boating, shopping, spas cross country skiing, etc etc etc. Boredom should NEVER be an issue.
More than 20,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The 3,500-acre Scuppernong River Habitat Area is the largest wet prairie east of the Mississippi River. You can enjoy all of this but still sleep in (very) comfortable beds and have access to a well equipped kitchen (and central air conditioning)!
From note left by guests:
"Thanks for offering such a lovely spot. We enjoyed ourselves on your land and in several area attractions. We ran/walked many loops around the prairie!
We had such a lovely experience at Ann's home, which is an easy hour and 45 mins from Chicago. Ann was super accommodating of our slightly earlier arrival time, and responded fairly quickly on email. The house is clean, nicely updated, comfy and laid out well for a group of four (plus one lively toddler and two dogs!). We were able to spread out and immediately feel at home. There were clear instructions detailing how everything works in the house. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking supplies and (sharp! hooray!) knives. The Wi-Fi signal wasn't great, but we honestly welcomed the opportunity to unplug a bit and just enjoy the quiet, peaceful surrounds. We loved the screened-in porch when it got a bit buggy at night, and the dogs loved the huge, fenced-in yard. Note: I also saw several hummingbirds up close early in the morning while I was having coffee on the steps. There's a great fire pit out back for s'mores with a big rolling yard, which was great for kicking the soccer ball around over a few chilled Spotted Cows. And these four 30-somethings were all super excited to take a couple jumps on the trampoline. :) If you're a hiker or cycler, I'd highly recommend staying in this area--there are beautiful and easily accessible trails all around. Meat lovers, I'd recommend Wilson Farm Meats for FABULOUS bacon, sausages and steaks, and Rushing Waters Fisheries for super fresh-caught rainbow trout. All in all, we loved our stay, and we absolutely hope to come back!
Thanks for a terrific weekend getaway, Ann!
My family had a super time! Trampoline-flying kites-walking trails with fresh red and black rasberries along trail-countless stars! Even saw a deer on the walk. House has endless charm and all the comforts of home and more! Very clean and comfy beds! We will concider this one again next year guaranteed!!! Thanks for a wonderful stay!!!!
What a heavenly place! The house is perfectly set up for a relaxing getaway, with a great kitchen for making gourmet meals. The property has all sorts of treats- a hammock under the shade trees, flowers flowers FLOWERS, a bench swing in a big oak, thirteen -striped ground squirrels, hummingbirds, and abundant raspberries growing in a thicket on the edge of the grounds. PERFECT!
This was the perfect place for our low-key bachelorette weekend! The cabin has more room than I had imagined from the pictures. We grilled out, built a fire to roast marshmallows and played some games around the oversized dining table (fit all of us and the food comfortably for every meal). I know they say the kitchen, firewood, towels etc come stocked but man, they are not kidding! We definitely over packed assuming we'd need a lot of those things but they were all provided and then some. Phenomenal weekend, great location, couldn't have been more pleased with our stay!
Our group (7 adults, one baby) had a great time at Ann's house. The property is beautiful, and the house itself had everything we needed - plenty of space, a great kitchen for cooking, and even laundry! We really appreciated the chance to stay there, and hope to stay again next summer.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this farmhouse. It had great old world charm with a few modern updates. It came as advertised with a well stocked kitchen of everything you'd need. The property was well manicured and lots of areas to explore. We especially liked the close proximity to the Kettle Moraine mountain bike trails. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the internet wifi signal was non-existent. But really, that's not why you stay at places like this. You stay at places like this to get away from technology and I'm almost happy that it didn't work.
I'd definitely stay here again.
We are located IN the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest. ENJOY: hiking, biking, trail running, geo-caching, bird watching, mushrooming, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, boating, hunting, scenic drive, ice fishing, ice skating, hunting, target shooting or dog walking.
Or drive 15 minutes into Lake Geneva and shop, spa and dine.
Or a little bit of all of the above. Truly the best of everything.
