This was our second trip to this house and it was just wonderful. We were serenaded throughout our visit by a couple of Loons . We caught the Northern Lights our second night there - spectacular ! The manager stopped by to welcome us and ensure that all was well - we got some great local fishing tips ! Our week was spent enjoying the woods, water and our family without any issues. Days were spent fishing , hunting mussels, hiking and nights were around the camp fire or kitchen table for endless card games . I only hope that the owner invests in some maintenance projects so that this property is available for many more years of visits . We will definitely return to this property.
The property was located in the heart of Pictured Rocks. Making it easy access to all the hiking and other day trips we were looking to do. The kids and adults loved the lake and fishing. Kathy the property manager was very attentive to all our needs when we arrived and throughout our trip. The size of the house accommodated all our needs and was very private. The house itself was well stocked for our cooking and bathing needs. There were only two things that really needed attention the musty smell in the basement, which a dehumidifier would correct and a few small "fixer upper" projects. Overall the house was wonderful and whenever we were to come back up that way would definitely be the top of our list for renting!
Overall, this is a great place to stay for a week. The caretakers were very courteous and prompt to respond to our questions that popped up during our stay, which we appreciated very much. We did have a problem with the tap water. It was completely fine upon our arrival, but very quickly developed a terrible taste and smell. (Not a normal well-water taste or smell either, as I have had well water myself for many years.) The caretakers came an took a water sample, saying they were going to send it to the health department. If you stay there before the problem is resolved, you'll want to bring or buy your own drinking water (We bought ours at Shopko, in Munising).
The view off the property is beautiful and quiet! There is no beach on the property, so we went to the Nat'l Park Campground one street over and used their beach for swimming. We enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on Crooked Lake. We also had campfires in the fire pit that is on the property.
The main floor is quite open, with a spacious living area with at least 1 pullout (I can't remember if there was a 2nd upstairs), also 2 bathrooms - 1 with a shower, 1 with a jet tub; 2 bedrooms - queen bed each; and the laundry room in the bathroom. Satellite TV is provided. The kitchen doesn't have full place settings for 8+ people, as advertised. We had 10 people there and had to eat breakfast in 2 shifts, washing bowls and spoons so the next person could have their cereal. There were enough plates, forks, knives. We loved having a dishwasher. There is a grill, but no grill tools, except tongs - all the kitchen tools are plastic, so we couldn't improvise there. The downstairs has an open area with 2 twins and a pullout. We couldn't get the head of the pullout bed to lay flat, so the kids ended up with their heads at the foot of the bed - no big deal. There is also a bedroom downstairs with 2 twins. The downstairs was quite musty, which triggered one of our kids' asthma. When the caretakers came to check out the water problem, my husband went into the locked mechanical room with them and noticed a very large puddle of water on the floor, probably condensation dripping off the pipes. This likely contributed to the very musty smell and could probably be rectified by wrapping the pipes. Other than the smell, the downstairs was fine for sleeping.
It is a great house, great price, great location - not far from Munising. The closest neighbor was across the lake. We would rent again.
What an amazing location! We had a fantastic week at this home. Wonderful location on the lake, very quiet and peaceful. We kayaked the lake and caught some fish, saw great sunsets as well. We fished many different lakes in the area and caught good fish each time out. The ATV trails are fantastic in the area as well. The house was very clean and well supplied, the owners thought of everything! Would highly recommend this unit to anyone!
I have to agree with the gentleman who said it was a place you kind of want to keep to yourself, but I will write this review. We had no problems at all. The area was just beautiful, and water was nice. Views all over the place with many windows and views from all sides including the laundry room which looked down the dirt road winding lane through the forest. We had a very nice time, and enjoyed the quiet and nature.
