About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Extra Twin Bed (Sleeps 4-5), spacious, central hvac

Check our reviews from 11 years of hosting guests. Stay in luxurious accommodations in this downtown Asheville tastefully renovated loft - your home away from home. Everything you could need for your vacation is here: a fully equipped modern kitchen, dining area, comfortable plush queen bed in one bedroom, queen-size sleeper sofa in living room with memory foam mattress, twin bed in second very small room, washer and dryer, 1 40" smart TV in bedroom, 1 48" flat panel TV in living room, Satellite, DVD player, Iphone dock/stereo, air conditioning, and a large window seat overlooking downtown. See our video on our website for more info: www.ashevilleurbannest.com

This condo was renovated in early 2005 and is on the third floor of an historic building that is in the center of downtown. Walk to all of the unique locally owned shops, art galleries, delicious restaurants, theaters, the Fine Art cinema, Pack Place and the Orange Peel for a concert. Most of Asheville's festivals start at Pack Place, and that is one block away. Park your car in the deck across the street and leave it there! Watch the Christmas Parade go by from the window and take the elevator to the first floor for a first class dining experience at the Lobster Trap, where they fly in Maine lobsters daily. If you don't feel like venturing out, help yourself to the honor wine bar in the kitchen and order up some dinner or appetizers from the Lobster Trap. If you are interested in experiencing what downtown Asheville is all about, you will not find a better location. We have a private yoga instructor and massage therapist who you can make an appointment with to come to the 'nest' while you are staying with us.

This oasis in the middle of downtown is perfect for those who want a comfortable place to relax in and use as a home away from home, a base for their downtown Asheville explorations. Mature adults only--not a place for college students to come and party.

The kitchen is fully equipped to cook wonderful meals from local ingredients you pick up at the local tailgate markets downtown on Saturdays and Wednesdays, though with so many wonderful restaurants nearby, you may opt out of cooking altogether. Asheville was chosen by Fodor's as the #1 travel destination in the world! Asheville has become known for it's many locally brewed beers, creative restaurants that use locally grown ingredients, and of course for their arts and crafts communities. Within walking distance are several wine stores, an artisan cheese store, bakeries, every type of restaurant, movie theater and music venues.

If you like the outdoors, you will find endless opportunities within an hour of downtown - hiking, mountain biking, running, ziplining, rock climbing, snow skiing, etc. See our website to hear about our favorites picnic spots and hikes nearby. Find out why so many people are moving here! If you are one of those, we proudly recommend two realtors to drive you around to see what you like.

Parking options for your car, if you bring one, are in the public lots across from the condo (the Rankin Deck and the Civic Center lot), and there are meters on both sides of the building. Parking is free the first hour in the decks and $1/hour after that, with a max of $10 for 24 hours. Meters are free after 6pm and all day on Sundays and holidays.

Our newest 'baby', Drover's Way, is just down the street from the Urban Nest. Ask us about it if the Nest is booked.

The address of the Urban Nest is 51 College St. between Lexington and Haywood St.

About Lynne Harty

Lynne Harty, local artist/photographer with her husband, Steve Cohen, an artist's manager. Lynne and Steve are happy to help you plan your outdoor adventures, steer you to their favorite restaurants, or stock the kitchen with items for your arrival. Just ask. They both work downtown around the corner from the condo so you can always stop by with any questions.

Lynne and Steve love to hike and explore the area around Asheville, and are happy to share their enthusiasm. They are also very involved in the Asheville art and music community so they are a good resource for your explorations. As Asheville is a foodie haven, they do their best to keep their guests up to date on new restaurants, which is a big job these days! They just added the 'Glad to Have You' app which has recommendations on everything from Lynne's favorite women's clothing store to their favorite spot for a glass of wine.

Lynne Harty purchased this condo in 2004

Why Lynne Harty chose Asheville

You can't find a better location in downtown Asheville nor more accommodating hosts, as we've been doing this for 9 years. We love to spend the night in the condo on nights when we are going to a show at the Orange Peel, or when we just want to be able to leave the car behind after a night on the town! I've furnished the condo to feel like a quiet home away from home with everything you need. Often we'll take the elevator down to the Lobster Trap to have a quiet dinner or glass of wine (or even ask them to bring appetizers to our condo for us!). We love the old brick wall in the living room, the funky nature of our old building, and that we have a tree outside our window despite living downtown. It's a very comfortable space.

What makes this condo unique

The condo is a quiet place to stay and sleep despite being in the heart of downtown Asheville. I have wireless internet which makes it easy to work in as well. Many people have used the condo as a retreat. We offer Pharmacopia natural bath products and use green cleaning products. Spa Theology, a day spa next door, will provide in room massage if requested. Also the Lobster Trap on the first floor will deliver their delicious meals to the condo if requested (though it's fun to sit at their bar and enjoy their beer and fresh oysters while listening to live acoustic music). You really won't need a car when staying at our condo as you can walk everywhere in downtown Asheville.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived in Asheville on the day of a snowstorm! Who knew Asheville has little snow and "rolls up the sidewalk" when it arrives. We still managed to be well fed, and certainly enjoyed the delights of this wonderful apartment. Our great joy was seeing the snow dusted fruit of the sweet gum tree outside our window!

Couldn't ask for more!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the Urban Nest while spending five days in Asheville. It was wonderful in every way! The downtown location couldn't be better, right in the middle of shops and restaurants, but perfectly quiet in the bedroom. It was nice to take the elevator down to the Lobster Trap and have a drink at the bar before going out, or having a delicious dinner there. Lynne has thought of everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Checkin was so easy, the place was spotless, and the provision of coffee, tea, creamer, sugar, wine (pay when you leave for the wine), even a lint roller! You will not need a thing except good walking shoes to enjoy everything Asheville has to offer. Thank you Lynne, we will not hesitate to return to the Urban Nest if we return to Asheville!

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in this condo for our anniversary and we loved every minute. It is very clean, well decorated, and in the best location! We had our 3.5 month old son and it was very quiet and close for times when he needed to rest! Great for walking around the downtown area and within driving distance to all area locations. We will definitely use this place again the next time we get a chance to visit!

Downtown fun

  • 4 of 5

The Condo was very nice. Very comfortable. Only comment is if you are sleeping on the pull-out couch (which has a nice blow-up mattress) the street noise can be loud. Not an issue in the 2 bedrooms. Great location in the center of Asheville. Fun!

The heart of Asheville's heart

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to Asheville for decades, memorizing its streets and alleys, stores and bars. The Urban Nest gave us a whole different perspective. Stepping out the door and deciding right, left, or straight to connect with both familiar and new was a new revelation. Even looking out the cool story high window on the last night revealed a whole new angle of Asheville's downtown grid and nightlife. Oh, and the loft was cool too. Very cool layout, decorations, and vibe (and a honor wine bar). We will return.

Cozy, comfortable, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our first stay in Asheville, and the Urban Nest was a perfect home base. Easy walking distance to everything you could need downtown. The recommendations for food and evening entertainment were spot on - we particularly enjoyed Limones and Nightbell.

Thank you for everything. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Asheville!
