About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Extra Twin Bed (Sleeps 4-5), spacious, central hvac

Check our reviews from 13 years of hosting guests. Stay in luxurious accommodations in this tastefully renovated loft right in the heart of downtown Asheville - your home away from home. Everything you could need for your vacation is here: a fully equipped modern kitchen, dining area, comfortable plush queen bed in one bedroom, queen-size sleeper sofa in living room with memory foam mattress, twin bed in second very small room, washer and dryer, 1 40" smart TV in bedroom, 1 48" flat panel TV in living room, Satellite, DVD player, iPhone dock/stereo, central air conditioning, and a large window seat for great people-watching below. See our video on our website for more info: www.ashevilleurbannest.com

This condo was renovated in early 2005 and is on the third floor of an historic building that is in the center of downtown. Walk to all of the unique locally owned shops, art galleries, delicious restaurants, theaters, the Fine Art cinema, Pack Place and the Orange Peel for a concert. Most of Asheville's festivals start at Pack Place, and that's just one block away. Park your car in the deck across the street and leave it there! Watch the Christmas Parade go by from the window and take the elevator to the first floor for a first-class dining experience at the Lobster Trap, where they fly in Maine lobsters daily. If you don't feel like venturing out, help yourself to the honor wine bar in the kitchen and order up some dinner or appetizers from the Lobster Trap. If you are interested in experiencing what downtown Asheville is all about, you will not find a better location. We have a private yoga instructor and massage therapist who you can make an appointment with to come to the 'nest' while you are staying with us.

This oasis in the middle of downtown is perfect for those who want a comfortable place to relax in, and to use as a home away from home, as a base for their downtown Asheville explorations. Mature adults only--not a place for college students to come and party. Many guests report how quiet the building is, but there are times that you may hear the noises of city life outside as we are surrounded by restaurants, music venues and shops in the heart of downtown. They don't roll up the sidewalks at 8pm.

The kitchen is fully equipped to cook wonderful meals from local ingredients you pick up at the local tailgate markets downtown on Saturdays and Wednesdays, though with so many wonderful restaurants nearby, you may opt out of cooking altogether. Asheville was chosen by Fodor's as the #1 travel destination in the world! Asheville has become known for it's many locally brewed beers, creative restaurants that use locally grown ingredients, and of course for their arts and crafts communities. The Downtown Urban Nest is within easy walking distance to wine stores, an artisan cheese store, bakeries, every type of restaurant, movie theater and music venues.

If you like the outdoors, you will find endless opportunities within an hour of downtown - hiking, mountain biking, running, ziplining, rock climbing, snow skiing, etc. See our website to hear about our favorites picnic spots and hikes nearby. Find out why so many people are moving here! If you are one of those, we proudly recommend two realtors to drive you around to see what you like.

Parking options for your car, if you bring one, are in the public lots across from the condo (the Rankin Deck and the Civic Center lot), and there are meters on both sides of the building. Parking in the decks is pretty inexpensive for the heart of a very popular city. Meters are free after 6pm and all day on Sundays and holidays. If you are going to be arriving on a Friday or Saturday night, know that events may be happening that hog the parking in the decks. We do have a backup plan for our guests, so let us know ahead of time if this is the case.

Drovers Way and The Nest On Broadway, our two other short term rental properties, are just down the street from the Urban Nest. Ask us about it if the Nest is booked.

The address of the Urban Nest is 51 College St. between Lexington and Haywood St.

WE DO NOT LIST ON CRAIGSLIST, SO IF YOU SEE OUR APARTMENT THERE, IT'S A SCAM. PLEASE FLAG.

About Lynne Harty

Lynne Harty, local artist/photographer with her husband, Steve Cohen, an artist's manager. Lynne and Steve are happy to help you plan your outdoor adventures, steer you to their favorite restaurants, or stock the kitchen with items for your arrival. Just ask. They both work downtown around the corner from the condo so you can always stop by with any questions.

Lynne and Steve love to hike and explore the area around Asheville, and are happy to share their enthusiasm. They are also very involved in the Asheville art and music community so they are a good resource for your explorations. As Asheville is a foodie haven, they do their best to keep their guests up to date on new restaurants, which is a big job these days! They just added the 'Glad to Have You' app which has recommendations on everything from Lynne's favorite women's clothing store to their favorite spot for a glass of wine.

Why Lynne Harty chose Downtown

You can't find a better location in downtown Asheville nor more accommodating hosts, as we've been doing this for 9 years. We love to spend the night in the condo on nights when we are going to a show at the Orange Peel, or when we just want to be able to leave the car behind after a night on the town! I've furnished the condo to feel like a quiet home away from home with everything you need. Often we'll take the elevator down to the Lobster Trap to have a quiet dinner or glass of wine (or even ask them to bring appetizers to our condo for us!). We love the old brick wall in the living room, the funky nature of our old building, and that we have a tree outside our window despite living downtown. It's a very comfortable space.

What makes this condo unique

The condo is a quiet place to stay and sleep despite being in the heart of downtown Asheville. I have wireless internet which makes it easy to work in as well. Many people have used the condo as a retreat. We offer Pharmacopia natural bath products and use green cleaning products. Spa Theology, a day spa next door, will provide in room massage if requested. Also the Lobster Trap on the first floor will deliver their delicious meals to the condo if requested (though it's fun to sit at their bar and enjoy their beer and fresh oysters while listening to live acoustic music). You really won't need a car when staying at our condo as you can walk everywhere in downtown Asheville.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived in Asheville on the day of a snowstorm! Who knew Asheville has little snow and "rolls up the sidewalk" when it arrives. We still managed to be well fed, and certainly enjoyed the delights of this wonderful apartment. Our great joy was seeing the snow dusted fruit of the sweet gum tree outside our window!

Only One Word Will Do....Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

To say that the Urban Nest was Perfect is definitely an understatement.

The place was beautiful and had everything you could want.

The Location was the best part. Located in the heart of Ashville with Restaurants surrounding you. Right Down stairs is the Lobster Trap. Live Music and Fabulous food!!! Also right next door their was a Breakfast that was outstanding. Lynne checked with me during the week to make sure everything was going great. I would recommend it to everyone. Go and enjoy.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in this condo for our anniversary and we loved every minute. It is very clean, well decorated, and in the best location! We had our 3.5 month old son and it was very quiet and close for times when he needed to rest! Great for walking around the downtown area and within driving distance to all area locations. We will definitely use this place again the next time we get a chance to visit!

Wonderful accommodations and location!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was exactly as advertised and pictured in the listing, centrally located in the heart of Asheville's shopping, restaurant and entertainment district, giving many options to enjoy the city. What's more, the owners provide guests a list of things to do and places to go, both in the city and the surrounding area. You couldn't ask for more, and we plan to return soon!

The condo is absolutely beautiful! The location could not have been better; walking distance to many great restaurants and stores. The binder in the condo with recommendations was great. We would definitely book again!

Very Nice Condo!

  • 5 of 5

The Condo gets an A+ because it is so nice and relaxing and Lynne gets an A+ because her communication is great. However, we had two issues that I know are out of Lynne's control but want to warn future renters. First is parking. We came home hot and tired one night to find both ramps full and the streets gridlocked. We saw people parking several blocks away and ended up on Starnes street which is a good 10-15 minute walk up hill. We thought it was just a fluke only to come home Sunday afternoon and both ramps were full again. This time they let us wait in line for the next available spot. We learned that the Asheville Symphony is a very popular event. The second issue was the bass from the music in the master bedroom which lasted until 2:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday night. We do not know if it was coming from a resident or bar but Sunday night was peace and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed the Condo, The Lobster Trap, High Five Coffee, Barley's and the Corner Store.

Owner's Response: Hi Nancy - I'm glad you enjoyed the condo, and am sorry about the music and parking issues. Asheville has surely been discovered the past year or two, and downtown gets crowded more than it used to on weekends, but usually you can park in Civic Center if rankin deck is full. I'm sorry that wasn't the case for you guys. I've been on the wait list for a public deck place for three years, so hopefully I'll have one eventually for my guests. As for the bass from the Music Hall two buildings down, you are right that we can't control that, and it's actually unusual but obviously possible. I did call the Music Hall manager today to request that they keep the bass volumes down, and he said he'd do what he could but that we are int he middle of downtown, not in a residential neighborhood. True enough. We do have fans in the closet that are for white noise - I hope any future guests reading this may utilize those in case it happens again.
