The Cottage at Kaaawa is both charming and reminiscent of what the guidebooks describe as Old Hawaii. Located just 45 minutes from the airport, ten minutes from the Polynesian Cultural Center and Kualoa Ranch (where were horseback rides and jeep tours of the site where Jurassic Park and other movies were filmed), 30 minutes from the famed Banzai Pipeline, it is the perfect North Shore location.
Our home is located right on the ocean with a sandy beach.
The living/dining area overlooks the beach -- a perfect place to enjoy spectacular sunsets, whale watching, and viewing the turtles who so enjoy life on the North Shore. Both bedrooms enjoy an ocean view. The outdoor covered Tiki Bar bar is where you will be serving Mai Tai's as the sun sets.
We loved staying here, it was clean and what you see in the pics is what you get! The ocean views were superb and 'made the place'. We found it to be the perfect location. Only reason we didn't give it 5 stars was due to the traffic, it is on a busy road. We even had turtles visit us for a couple of days:)
Perfect beach front location. Great snorkeling right out the back door. The gear was even there for our use. Was very private. Had few passers by but all were respectful and friendly. Wonderful spacious yard. We had many family members who preferred to spend the day with us rather than be at their own places. The house was laid out well with a great ocean view from the dining table and a terrific kitchen. At first we were concerned there was no AC, but it was a blessing to hear the ocean instead. The fans helped create great circulation. The only thing keeping it from being an excellent (though we enjoyed it immensely) was tuning out the road noise from the front. We managed fine and directed our attention to the back. All in all it was well worth it.
This was the perfect beach rental for us. The house slept 4 comfortably (my parents in the queen bedroom and my son and myself in the twin beds). The ocean breeze cooled the house at night which well made up for no a/c. The morning sunrises were beautiful. We did snorkel right off the back beach and saw some fish. Most of our dinners we ate out but we did use the charcoal grill one night and it worked well (like a grill) I would definitely stay here again. Mahalo.
My sister from Austria and I stayed 3 weeks and except for some very stormy weather, it was a very relaxing stay. The house had everything we needed and Debbie was available to answer questions if we needed something.
We actually cooked all our meals at the house and didn't eat out once while there.
Because of the stormy weather, we found some really pretty pieces of coral on the sand on a few days. The water is so lovely when the sun is out.
It is very close to the water and when it is stormy, you can definitely hear the surf crashing on the stone wall, but I didn't mind it. I think if there is any thing I would change, it would be to have steps of some sort from the patio to the sand, but you can still get down to it by walking a little way down the road to the access.
We met some nice people who walk by every day but no one bothered us or used the beach in front of the house.
My Family and I arrived in Laie, Hawaii, February 21st. My daughter, niece and myself had never been before but my parents had. We fell in love with every thing the first day! We were supposed to leave March 2nd but my husband was delayed with work and had only been in Hawaii a few days so we decided to extend our stay. We were originally staying in an Ocean Front house but they had new renters coming in and we needed a new place to stay. We happened upon Debbie by luck. We had searched on VRBO and had a reply. It was a friend of Debbie's saying she personally didn't have a vacancy but she had a friend with a possible cancelation. The friend being Debbie. Debbie contacted us with the homes info and rates. Debbie is extraordinary. She helped us in any way possible. She had a two bedroom Ocean Front home available and we took it March 1st. I mentioned we were staying in an Ocean Front home originally, not one of Debbie's properties. Debbie's place is the epitome of an Ocean Front home. I thought the other house was nice but Debbie's Cottage at Kaaawa went above and beyond my expectations. Absolutely breathtaking. No vegetation obstructing the view, 180 degrees of glistening Ocean and a clean sandy beach! The home was great. The back wall in the cottage is all glass. Even indoors, if you are sitting on the sofa or eating at the dining table, the view is breath taking. The Cottage has enough room for everyone to spread out. Very clean. Outdoor area was great for cooking out, etc. House is in a perfect centralized location. We were supposed to leave AGAIN March 8th but again we extended our stay. We did however send my parents, niece and daughter back to North Carolina but my husband and I stayed until March 14. Yes, at Debbie's Cottage in Kaaawa. We have been to many places, islands, but nothing comes close to Oahu, Hawaii. We enjoyed Waikiki/ Honolulu but we enjoyed the slower pace of Kaaawa, Laie and The North Shore. The people in these areas are exceptionally nice and make you feel very welcome! People like Debbie don't come around often. I told my parents over and over again how nice and accommodating Debbie was. You don't meet people like her everyday. If you get a chance to rent from her, you will not regret it! Thank you Debbie for your hospitality. We loved our stay and
you surpassed our expectations! We will be back and rent one of your beautiful homes again!
Fantastic home, beautiful location! I'm so pleased that we chose to stay here! Centrally located, it feels a world away from the chaos of Waikiki. I would absolutely reccomend this place to anyone. A few more kitchen utensils (baking dishes, a blender), some WD-40 to the loud dryer and maybe a hammock would make this place perfection.
